Yeah, I'm worrying about my crafting classes purely for repairs. I may get in to actually making things at some point, but for now I just care about being able to repair my Paladin gear at high levels without having to grind out gil.
Don't forget your Rings and Bracelets most likely need goldsmithing!

Yeah, but this is my type of game in terms of being able to focus on one character. I plan to play this for possibly years. I'm in no rush, but I do have a plan. I mean, I played the same character in WoW for basically seven years (with small breaks to tinker around with max level alts here and there). Focusing all my time and energy in to one character is just something I do, and I love that this game rewards it.
I blame @Wooden Spoon for talking me into the game, after I talked myself out of it when I found out no Thief/Rogue class. Now that I'm interested, I can't purchase it! I see how you are SE! Well played, well played indeed.

Definitely this. In WoW, I built up a network of alts with all the different crafting skills, plus a bank char to centrally store everything in a guild bank (he was a guild of 1). I can basically do the same thing in FFXIV, except all on one character, which makes it all the more awesome except for the part about storing all those mats... I haven't made 20 on any class yet and 3 of 4 inventory bags are already full.

This is probably super subjective but is it worth getting to 50 first then levelling other classes? I'm GLD right now but heard that PLD is the ultimate traditional tank which is the route I'm heading for.

You unlock retainers right after you finish the first three dungeons (coincidentally this is right around lvl 20), each retainer has 7 bags and you can have 2 retainers.
I may or may not have filled up both of my retainers >.>

Getting world full again on my server just like the last week. Only been trying for 5 minutes or so, but was hoping that things would be better after the maintenance. I'll keep trying. Anybody else running into that today? Had heard nothing but good things about the maintenance, so I was very optimistic coming home from work that today would be the day I'd be able to play.
It might have just been a false positive from booting the afkers temporarily, and now they're back in. We'll see. Wish me luck.

There are some useful cross-class skills, but you will not want to be a straight Gladiator beyond level 30. Being a Paladin instead (the level of your Paladin is based off the level of your Gladiator) is just so much better in every way. Really the Jobs are just so necessary to be an appropriately powerful character. It also doesn't hurt to do various other classes for abilities you want to use.
I would love for Square to say when they expect the digital download to be available again so I know whether it's worth it to just buy the physical one and have it shipped.
Just an FYI for other people waiting on the Digital to be sold again, you can apply a -25% coupon and buy it from GMG, when it goes on sale again that is. If that means anything to you, since I'm buying two collectors digital editions I'll take the savings and wait... impatiently but I'll wait. for now.

I got a papercut right on the tip of my mouse clicking finger. This is the worst.
So uh, apparently Fred Meyer has the game in stock, but it's $25. That makes me think it's the original FF14, not FF14:ARR. Will... will that work? I just need the cd key and can download the client, right?
ALso: Ran in to take a shower before going down (I have ~3 hours before needing to be on the bus, and it's a 20-30 minute walk to the store) and hey, Monsoon. Maybe someone upstairs is trying to tell me not to go get this...

I, as a tank, have been waiting 30 minutes to do Ifrit. Good-fucking-luck to any DPS who only have 1 or 2 hours playtime a day to progress. Yea I know you could ask around if people want to help you, but that shouldn't be required.
There will come a time where everyone else has done Ifrit except for some new players. Well, have fun waiting. This has to be the worst story mechanic I've ever seen.

Yeah, the duty finder pretty much sucks for DPS. It's one of the only things I dislike about the game. 40 minutes+ to do a mandatory quest, while you're unable to go afk lest you miss the confirmation window, is stupid bullshit.
The closest GameStop to me that has any is 12 miles away. The next closest 2 are tied at 98 miles away. At least according to the website. Gonna call the one in the mall that's on the way home from work and see if they have some or will have some.
The game has been playable from the get go. If you are asking about the login servers it seems people are getting in, but there are still some waits. I'm curious to see how it does over the next few hours as we should be hitting peak hours as everyone gets home.

Yeah, I'm thinking it will be that way for at least another day as they fill up the new servers, once they get the new ones to a respectable pop they will probably be less strict on the creation of characters on other servers.
Was getting ready to do the first dungeon with friends and family... and my internet poops the bed after a few pulls.
Eventually comes back... but I'm getting 3102 when I try to log in again.
3102 is the "Character still logged in" error which usually only takes 5 minutes or so to resolve when it's caused by a disconnect. I would say if it takes too much longer than that you might want to put in a support ticket though because there were previous reports of the error being a bit more difficult to resolve on occasion.

I really want to confirm this once and for all so I don't keep getting confused about it.
In the targets filter screen, do I check/tick the boxes to enable the ability to target something, or disable it?
If I want to make sure I never target cycle between other players, for example, do I check the box associated with that (so it's solid yellow) or uncheck it (so it's blank)?
I still sometimes cycle through players or NPCs during FATEs, and I've tried both ways in the filter settings. I don't know what's up.
My game is scheduled to arrive Friday 9/6/13; By what date do I have to register to get the 7 free days?
No sure but the 7 free days started today, so I would imagine it's for anyone who creates during this time, but regardless of when they create the 7 free days ends next week. Meaning if you create your account next Tuesday you get 1 day.
That's just my guess though.

So at least one bit of positive news. It seems less the server is shitting itself, and more SE actually controlling the amount of logins this time around.
I just put in an application on the guild website but figured I'd post in the thread as well asking for an invite. My characters name is Avry Wright, can invites be sent to offline characters? Cause Im not sure exactly when ill be on next.
I started in phase 4 and have ACN up to 29 as my main class. I also have PGL, LNC, THM and ARC at 15 along with MRD and CNJ at lvl 8. I might well have an a bit of an indecision problem but at least I'm not being penalized for it! I'm trying to not lvl too many DoH/DoL classes as well but I have a feeling that I will have a lot of crafting in my future.
