I wish the price of killing civs increased with your level. Tying it to just difficulty renders it moot once you're rolling in spendable cash. At my level killing a civilian should cost me a million or something to make it sting. Make me think twice about it.

Oh god no. I don't have the trigger control to be able to deal with something like this... Especially since they like to jump up in my line of fire during bank heists...

Who is the real psycho? The tan armoured FBI agent who lifts a bank customer up in front of them as a human shield? Or me, who has just killed 4 guards, a bank manager, a guy on a bench, two people walking out in the street, okay don't answer that.

But murdering everything that moves is the best part of the game
Eh, I'll be fine with higher civ penalties depending on what the movement rules for them are and if I reach a point where I can reliably get the tellers down while shouting straight at them.

So I've gone straight mastermind, but I know that's been a mistake as I really need that mule perk, at the very least. What are the essential MM skills and what ones should I skip?
Intuitively, I feel like cable guy, joker, and my pistol skills get the most use. Also if I can buy my crew out of escape missions, that one might be worth keeping, eh?

Though some people aren't a fan of aced inspire and others like pistol messiah a ton. Regardless you definitely want aced medic bags, joker, basic control freak and basic inspire out of the high end skills.
Pistol skills are good and there are some great pistols to use them on (Crosskill/Bronco). I'm just not a fan of weapons perks because I like being able to freely switch without feeling like I'm wasting points.
Lack of love for Firestarters? I know several people including myself consider it their favorite heist.
Firestarter is, by a wide margin, my favorite heist. Everyone on my crew feels useful on every day of the job. Like, our Technician has plenty of opportunities to blast open trucks, doors, etc; our Ghost/MM can potentially stealth us through whole days; and I always feel great as an Enforcer, because if anything goes wrong, I get to protect my guys from waves and waves of enemies while they work the objectives.
And then on Day 3, roles get a little reversed toward the end, because I get to bring along my saw and chew through two whole walls of safety deposit boxes while the rest of the crew defends me for a change.
Me and two low level pubs did the first day of Firestarter yesterday. On hard. None of us had done the map before. We got all the guns, and all got out alive. 8-)
Ended up nailing every day with ease. It's amazing when a team just clicks.

Its just a great bloody mission.
Wait who doesn't love Firestarters? This is literally all I think about during the heist

Finally solo'd Framing frames today (my net was down and i wanted to play so i figured 'why not?)
Got lucky on the first day with Seven paintings and only five guards (+security room) so i was able to lock it all down then day two was smooth and finally the last day went off without a hitch, the vault was even on the computer level so it was easy to sprint to the vault.
The skills are completely wrong and they use real world names for weapons but at least its a stat page.

I was at Atlantic City this weekend with the guys and bounced from casino to casino. All I could do (besides losing money at the tables) is keep an eye out for surveillance cameras and underpaid security guards. All I wanted to do was knock the place over!

By "lack of love" I meant "never seem to do it with PA groups I've run with"
We remedied that last night. Myself, Ouchimoo and Master Bates ran it w/ a pubbie. First day went.. ehhh.. OK. Second day cake. Third day we tried to stealth but ended up going loud (can't remember why) not long after the drill was placed. Failed once due to lack of bullets.
Second time around, we were casing the roof and Master asked if they'd fixed the sound bug for the rooftop. He then shoots the camera with a silenced pistol, the whole bank alerts, and we proceed to finish the stage loud and proud.
A big part of enjoying this game is playing with like-minded criminals. Some people love cards, some people love shooting everything, some want to 100% stealth, etc. Firestarter scratches the exact itch I have with this game (sans loot bags in the vault ), and I'll play it pretty much anytime.
Also, Big Oil, since it seems right up my alley, and I've only attempted it once.
What's the deal with Silent Killer? Do I need it to be a stealthy heister kinda guy? I've got a silenced Loco and the BIG silencer for my crosskill. That one, especially, seems to be pretty subtle in the sound department.
Reason I ask is this: Last night, 3rd day of Firestarters, we're working on taking guards down outside and the Manager walks out the side door unexpectedly. I put him down w/ the silenced loco, and it sounded relatively loud outside (there was even a bit of echo) but no-one alerted.
Then, later, Master Bates shoots a camera on the roof with his silenced pistol *click* and the whole bank goes nuts (though that's a known bug)
Silent killer eliminates the damage penalty for every silencer in the game. On some weapons (shotguns, M308 and I think the Deagle) it will actually give you a damage bonus. You also get 15% chance to pierce Tan FBI's armour with silenced weapons.
It's a nice little luxury skill if you're playing pure ghost but realistically you absolutely don't need it and in most cases can get away with a silenced loco/bernetti as you prefer.

I am a fervent believer in the silent killer perk. If you are using silenced weapons, this gets you up to fighting weight when the cops show up. You still wont do the ridiculous damage of enforcers and techs, but that's not what you do as a ghost that deep in the tree. Your job is to keep moving and look for ways to range out to the sides of a fire fight and cueball the cops as they are fighting your friends.
Perfect example would be the enforcer fighting a cop charge into the bank lobby. Ghost moves in the side hallway to flank the cops as they enter the lobby. I tend to score way quicker kills on cops that are looking the other way when I flank them.
Maybe the cops have different values of armor on the front, side, back?
Flanking doesn't have an effect AFAIK. It's probably just that your damage drop off is much less than the guy firing from the back of the lobby.
Silent killer just shifts the penalty for using silent weapons. If you aren't the ghost then your penalty is usually to not have a side arm (or not have a primary if you like the loco). If you take silent killer you gain a smidge of damage, a minor buff vs armoured opponents and pay tweleve points to make it not a problem.
The skills are completely wrong and they use real world names for weapons but at least its a stat page.
Looking at my stats ( http://www.payday2-stats.fr/player=76561197961215353 ) I dont think the stats are wrong, just that the weapons and deployable stats seem to only account for the past two weeks or so rather than since release (for example its said Ive not used the Amvar or ak74 even though those are all i used the first week or so).
Yeah, I think the stats are slightly skewed. The guy who posted it says the API for hooking it together wasn't available at launch so maybe that's why it's not accurate.
Is it still possible to speed run Rats? I was with a higher level, like 90-ish, player and we would:
1) immediately blow the lab.
2) he would run to the safe through side halls and then blow it open with charges, retrieving the info.
3) this always triggered Escape so we'd use charges to speed through that.
4) well the last bit is pretty easy really.
We were getting just amazing XP but obviously not much money for the run. This is the only time I've seen someone do this and I'm not specced for charges.

In my opinion, the pistol skills are meh, but I've always been partial to rifles and shotguns.
