I'm also happy to part freely with stuff from my TRADE list.
I've ordered you a canary shirt! Any chance I can get the ancient and great statues? Not exactly a fair swap I know but if they are going for free I'll take em
I see Pete every morning as I usually play at 9am. His joke about people's handwriting being atrocious still cracks me up. But mostly I wish he was a real visitor. Speaking of which Katrina finally asked to set up shop in town, so yay.
Durr I forgot to talk to Gracie again
I went to the store got some stuff and went to bed
But I had a question when people leave your town where do they end up? with people you are friends with? People you have streetpassed how have the game?
Who?
If somebody comes to pick up your villager while they're in boxes, they'll end up in their town, obviously. If not, they will go to your "outbox" and the next time you streetpass someone who has an open spot the villager will end up in their town. If you have a villager move out and don't do either of these things before another villager moves out, the outbox is overwritten and the villager is sent to the "void" (i.e. their data is deleted and they don't end up anywhere).
I'm not sure about online interaction. I was under the impression that didn't transfer villagers (without inviting them to your town) but it sounds like @_J_ got Antonio from @Hargaad of Omnar that way.

If my town is any indication everyone who moves out just becomes homeless on Main Street. :P
Well Elmer ended up in my brother's town even though he moved out in August and my brother got his 3ds on Xmas
And last week Elmer loitered in the shops and such on Main Street
So I do not think they end up in Limbo
OK, just bought the game (never played an AC game before) and made all the way to the town layout screen before my perfectionist tendencies kicked in. I've reset it a few times to try to get a layout I want (town hall and re-tail above the river, houses below, all part of beaches accessible by ramp or dock). I've looked at the great OP we have here... anything else to look out for as I try to pick out a layout?
Will I have any sort of control in terms of house placement? If I have one house in a place I don't want, can I knock it down or move it or something?
If I'm trying to separate businesses and houses, which will I need more space for? Is this even possible, or is a more mixed town better?
What does "fishable waterfall" mean? All mine seem to be on the edges of the screen and I can get up to the shore. Is this not always the case?

This is something I've wanted to test, but I don't want to mess around with the villager complement I have now.
It seems like you should be able to sit at 9 villagers forever until you choose a 10th in some manner (camper, invite from another town). If you drop below 9, I know the game will move in a random whether you want one or not.
I'm thinking about letting Shep move out (he's the second "smug" villager), and I wonder if I kept the wireless switch off after he moved out if I'd have more time to find someone I want.
Otherwise it's going to be "reset the campsite a million times" again.
And I'm not even sure it works the way you describe above. Here's a scenario (titled "How I Got Static"):
I have a friend who got the game the same time as me. She is hardly ever online, and I almost never StreetPass her (she doesn't bring her 3DS with her to my house, for some reason).
We would have StreetPassed each other the day we both got the game. Three days after I started, I deleted my town and started over because I hated my face.
Fast forward to a while later. I haven't seen my friend in person or online for weeks. I was at 9 villagers, and assumed I could just wait and pick someone at my leisure. (This may have been after Agnes moved out)
Somehow Static moved from my friend's town to mine. I hadn't interacted with her 3DS either online or in person in forever. So Static moved out of hers, maybe went to her "outbox"? But how did my 3DS/game know Static was available and move him in? No idea.
For what it's worth, I've very recently had a 10th villager move in without any form of prompting/"collecting" on my part. It was a a bit of a surprise.
Edit: On the flip side, I've had over a month go by sitting at 9 before I had to prompt a 10th to move in.
A 10th villager will not move in at random, but will move in if you streetpass. If you drop down to 8, a 9th will be randomly picked for you within a few days if you do not invite someone or streetpass. The game definitely favors streetpasses.
I have never had a villager move in through online interaction. I wonder if it has something to do with having less than 9? Needs more testing.
Also the last 16 villagers that moved out of your town will show up on Main Street whenever they feel like it, regardless of whether they found another town to move to or were "voided."

Do NOT tempt me to buy another copy of the game "for my husband" to test this stuff. Just.... Don't.
Edit: Hmm, if I drop to 9, and then disable StreetPass for AnimalCrossing, will I get a 10th? My HH Showcase is full anyway.
No, if you drop to 9 and disable streetpass, you will not get a 10th villager until you invite them to your town, either from someone else's or the campsite. I have been doing this for quite some time after too many villagers I disliked in a row.

I must disagree. Paula moved into my town as a 10th villager and I didn't invite her. Had I have known, I'd have done the reset trick to get her in a better place that wasn't in the touch-only area.
I'm also happy to part freely with stuff from my TRADE list.

Deal. I'll put both artworks on my northwest beach in Omnar2 (but not on the island).
Also, I'm an indigo pinwheel away from having all of the streetpass items.
It's not on moridb, and it's not in the catalog, so it's not such an itch I need to scratch as it is just OCD about completing the set.
Also, I have a Hans and Ozzie pic that people have left in my town. @_J_, you want either of them?
Make the head bigger than the body. When I did that, she didn't want anything to do with my snowflakes. In other news, I believe I have finally finished my Snowtyke set, which means I get to pursue the only set I really cared about much anyway: Ski Set.
@Cullen I may have goofed...I don't know where the great statue is, but I did put the ancient statue out for you to collect.
No problem. Might not be able to pick them up tonight - depends if I can reach a save point in Bravely Default or not . If not I'll swing by tomorrow with your shirt.
I must disagree. Paula moved into my town as a 10th villager and I didn't invite her. Had I have known, I'd have done the reset trick to get her in a better place that wasn't in the touch-only area.
Yeah, Paula was mine... she was also the one who surprise moved into my stump patch. She sucks, basically.
I left my DS at work and now my flowers will wilt and someone strange may have moved in and I can't make my snowman for the day
And I'm worried by the time I get to it tomorrow the battery will have died.

@_J_@Cullen - I left the Hans's Pic and the Serene Painting in Omnar 2 near the police station for you (respectively) last night. I wasn't on my computer so I didn't post about it.

You had streetpass disabled?
Not disabled, but I literally do not streetpass anybody but myself on any given day.
On rare occasion, however, I'll take both DS's with me and I might get a a streetpass once every two weeks? From what I can tell, I live all alone in a town with nobody who plays Nintendo anymore. *le sad*

@_J_ and @Cullen, I'm a butt...I saw both and picked them up. I'll go place them at the top of Omnar2's northwest beach area.
Ok, so I'm pretty early on (just got my house this morning) and I'm getting the hang of what I should attempt to do in the game every day (which it exactly what I was looking for in ACNL, a game I check into a few times a day to manage my town).
Any fossils, bugs, and fish I find first go to the museum, then to re-tail to be sold (not flea marketed)
I shake all trees, water all plants, dig up all holes
I have a snowmam that I'm catching snowflakes for (done it three times already, I guess I'll keep going until I get all the ice theme?)
I'll roll up another snowman of a different size every day and see what I have to do for him/her
I posted to the bulletin board and sent all my neighbors a letter with a present in it (do I do this every day?)
I talk to everyone a bunch every day
At this point, should I be attempting to buy out everyone every day (re-tail, the nook store, the able store, saharah when available)? I don't really have a good handle on what items are easy to get and what ones are rare and I should jump on them when available. If someone is selling something that I already have in my locker, will I know that, or could I accidentally buy the same space themed chair or whatever twice? I heard something about a catalog. Will that help me keep track of what I've bought before, what I have, what I need, etc? I feel like I have random assorted crap just sitting in my locker with no place to hold onto them or save them for later (if that's what I'm actually supposed to be doing, I don't know).
I'm looking at the OP for the daily chores (half of which isn't available to be yet). Any other tips for daily chores for someone just getting started?

I stole your Antonio.
If someone wants me to open up so they can yoink him, post accordingly.
Like, exactly? 5-5:30ish has pretty much been my daily play time for 8 months or however long the game's been out.
Weird. He usually hangs around for about an hour in my experience.

You can't adopt villagers from "foreign" campsites.
Not really, and no you can't.
However, you can take my advice I wrote up here:
