I don't see Shorten spending the first term in opposition. In the end he wants to be PM, so he's going to want to have someone else take the heat for Labor's failure to win the election, and give him some time in the background after the fallout from him toppling two leaders.

I did find it amusing that apparently the Liberal Democrats got a pile of senate votes because they were up the left end of the senate sheet, and people just 1'd em because they thought they were the Liberal party. Or at least, that's the supposition as to why the Lib Dems got a sharp increase in senate votes.

So, Australia voted out their labor party right before the biggest oil boom in the country's (or most others') history, huh.

Get ready to make a grand total of no money selling what makes it out of the ground to China.

    Yep, pretty much.

At the turn of the last century, resources magnates were all about building infrastructure, hospitals, hotels, theatres, stuff like that.

Now they're all about selling as much of our stuff to whoever will take it, and keeping every cent for themselves.

It's weird though. What does a person do with that much money? When you're the fourth richest woman in the world, with a net worth of $22 billion dollars, why do you need more money than that? What can you possibly buy that you can't already?

    I'l never understand that mindset.

Well, survived in the sense of not being obliterated yes. Otherwise it went about as badly as it plausibly could have. We still aren't anywhere near pre-crisis employment.

Hopefully y'all will be more lucky.

Edit: Although to be fair Bush's predecessors teed that catastrophe up for him.

What does Murdoch have against public sector workers? What does ANYONE have against public sector workers? Does he want more kids to kill themselves? Because as a public sector worker, that is my takeaway from his remarks.

That and that he is basically a shitheel of a human being.

Because she worked for it and because she worked so hard, just GIVING the money away won't teach people to work hard and be successful themselves.

Never mind that that is not only a shitty thing to say, but that she also inherited her position for her father. So the lesson is: just make sure you are doing what you can to be born into the right circumstances.

    Which is nothing.

    Also Jabba the Hutt jokes.
