    @Infidel

I have not forgotten, but I did get addicted to WoW again. We (and by we, I mean I need to pick a night not to do dailies) need to get together and work on it.

Player caps tend to be used to help the host balance a game. Scaling certainly can be done, but it's not always as easy as it seems. That being said, having more games in the 35-40 player range would not be a bad thing at this point. Or getting more concurrently running minis.

The real bottleneck right now isn't players so much as hosts. Creating an hosting a game is a huge time expense, even for relatively simple games. Finding ways to reduce that, either with partners or something else, would go a long way to getting more games running.

Do you have any idea how pissy I would get if I spent a month on mechanics, backgrounds, and scenarios, only to cut five names and backstories from my. Gat. Damn. List.

Though I usually have about 10 open slots if people want to RP.

...what exactly makes my games different that would draw people to them if you're having issues filling people up?

My only issue with doing and SE game would be the possibility of using uh...simpler mechanics. Already I think I tend to put to much puzzle solving in and not enough time to solve.

Well the main queue isn't exactly setting the world on fire, so if you wanted to slow the kill rate to allow more time to solve, it'd probably be fine? We've had mains that take almost 2 weeks

I'd probably sign up for more games over this past month if I was paying attention. I've been preoccupied with the job hunt thing, as well as working on my own main (Need to move my notes over to my new machine) I figure if the theme is strong, people like the public mechanics in the OP, and they dig the host(s) and their narrative style, they'll sign up.

I shall once more also note that with my current free time, I am able to assist with games, pitches, etc., just ping me via PM.

Ok, so Buddha and I were throwing around some ideas about phallas and I had though of a faction game. The idea is set in some Pirates Age. The village is made up of the English, French, and Spanish who are all fighting for resources in the game. The mafia are Pirates who are the standard "Kill the village" types. The idea I had was that the factions gain resources through their people getting red voted. So the key to getting rich was to be voted on, but don't get voted out. If you get voted out, your faction doesn't get a resource.

Does this sound good or really bad?

It sounds...frustrating and likely that you would have factions blatantly exposing themselves right and left . Assuming they manage to get organized.

edit: or softnetwork, which will definitely happen

It is an interesting concept in theory.

One thing that I'm getting better at, and I recommend for all hosts in the design phase. Look at the game, and TRY to break it. Have your partner help (You have a partner right?) I mean, really try to game the system on a test run. How easily can a faction snowball if X or Y factor is removed?

Well, the idea is that you have to play a fine line between gaining a resource and being voted out. And there might be roles that can steal resources from a player, others their vote might count more. It could be used to discover factions. Mafia might be able to hide better in the votes so Im going to have to think about them.

    ...

Sounds like the most organised faction and the mafia would strike a deal to become the super mafia, with the organised faction guaranteeing the mafia's safety through a mafia salesperson/spokesman/bribe taker whilst receiving, in return, resources from the mafia's votes, their own security and targeted elimination of all competing factions. This effectively marginalizes players in the other factions, and the game finally resolves around the two remaining (now) mason groups bashing against each other.

This is assuming that the resources are even worth chasing.
If not, then it just becomes a 'normal' multi-faction game, where every group tries to vote out the mafia, or at the very least someone else.

I think there's a way to make it work except for the fact that people will ultimately need to be around for close, and the faction with the most people in the right time zone will win.

It sounds somewhat like a board game idea my cousin and I have been kicking around for years. Pirates fighting for the loyalty of the crew, whoever's captain gets the most loot, first mate next most, etc. goal is to retire with the most loot at the end of the game. Never quite figured out how to cut the time down to something reasonable.

Herbert Hoover got 40% of the vote in 1932. Friendly reminder.

Every day you revote the non-votes for the vote-winner on past days to represent the redistribution of wealth among the crew via whoring and drinking.

I'm tempted to run a reverse factional Phalla based on the player list of Murder Mansion, whereupon different factions bid secretly on incoming players as they leave the Mansion, and the team with the most players at the end wins. With player powers determined by the total winning faction bid, and a third faction entering should an incoming player receive no bids.

But yeah, just started full time employment, so no time.

I don't know if "underworld" is a game that has run which has some parallels to my proposed idea, but yes it would pretty much be the dead players from Murder Mansion playing so being set in an underworld or Angel:Beat would be appropriate. Originally I was just thinking of a silly "stock market" setting though.

    Hmmm.

I thought I was on the signup list, but I'm not.

So, Sign up for Vampire: The Masquerade: The Phalla for Columbus II with @Infidel as cohost.

(just as a teaser, this MAY be the first in a whole series of phallas. You'll be naming your characters this time is all I'm saying.)

Nah, though it might have some similarity to the Phalliad game. Hmm, idea...

Signing up before your game is ready lets you build that hype, attract everyone back, something something, etc. etc.

    What? Where?

Not a game signup, but rather a list in the first post in this thread for signing up to run a main.

I'm unaware of a Phalla running at this time.
