you know how when you're a kid, and you read picture books or watch cartoons that have drawings of food in them, and that food looks so incredibly delicious and you really wish you could eat it?
Say what you want about some of Gabe's recent human characters, but his landscapes and his use of color have gotten amazing lately. First Sand, now this. Some of the best work I've ever seen him do.
I really wish they'd do another CTS strip. Those were always great, but having Gabe take this kind of approach to that environment would be a site to see.
I also really love the banner weaving into the background. It makes me wonder if it has text we're missing, but it's probably just visual flair. Very excited, this is a good start.
Speaking of Lookouts, anybody been following the Cryptozoic Lookouts comic? I've been enjoying a few more tantalising hints as to the relationship between the Eyrewood, the Village Elders and the Lookouts themselves. But dang has the really spotty release schedule been harsh on trying to keep an interest.

This is so cool. I have been a fan of Lookouts since the beginning and I'm super excited for this new story! I love how we are meeting the girl version of the Lookouts.
The ribbon effect for the dialogue is really great, and makes me wonder who is in fact speaking it. Is it a poem the girl is remembering? Is it a message left for her? A voice in the night? Really cool.
Love the last panel as well. Makes me want to run away and explore that untamed world myself!

Gabe's news post makes it clear that the girls are "called."
Although apparently joining the order is something you do by sneaking out at night. Which means that the Daughters aren't formally recognized, possibly because they aren't well-regarded.
Wonder what the significance of the title is. "Tithe" carries some pretty big implications. She may not escape the comic alive.
If you go back to Tycho's poem
daughter, daughter
killed her father
look at what her
blood has bought her
mother, may i
kill another
in the cradle
sleeps your brother
It sounds like the daughters are the ones who will do the killing, I'm guessing Tithe refers to girls who are summoned by "mother" (the forest itself?)

Remember there are children's rhymes making the Thornwatch sound bad and scary though, too.

"Because you can sit next to a person for a very long time, more than a decade, and still not know them, I found out something interesting this weekend: Gabriel apparently wants me to write a Lookouts book. It would never occur to me to take something we had made together, and then run away with it somewhere. That’s not in my makeup. But apparently I’ve been given a kind of permission? Before I had completed all four chapters of Precipice, I might not have thought myself capable of it. This juncture is interesting, also."

Well obviously the parents are the tithe, assuming the poem isn't outright slander.

yeah, its probably a right of passage maybe? it adds another layer of mystery, and maybe a sinister air, to their path.
Mike and Jerry still don't read the forums. They just sometimes drop their phones and this happens.
I really want Jerry to write a book, just because we've never seen him get to do something that large. I'd like to get to read something so overarching and comprehensive as a book.

I'd like to see him do it just because he hasn't done it. Both of these guys have really been pushing their respective arts in the past year. Mike's art has gone completely fucking nuts; I continue to be blown away by the areas into which he is pushing his craft. Precipice showed me that Jerry has the ability to write several characters with individual voices without losing any of the uniqueness that has made him the soul of Penny Arcade. I can imagine that he is daunted by the prospect of writing a whole book, especially if he's never done something like that before. But if he went for it, and pulled it off... Goddamn, that would be a huge boost for him. It goes without saying that the resulting book would be amazing, but the achievement of writing it would do so much for his craft.

I can smell the reviews already.
It's like Harry Potter and wizarding school. Except darker and in the woods. And without wizards. - Some Jackass Book Reviewer
Jerry Holkins has proven he can stand amongst literary greats like Robert Jordan, Tolkien and George RR Martin. - Some Other Jackass Book Reviewer
"This fills out the middle part of the Lookouts as a setting, with Thornwatch being the third"
Is this a reference the Thornwatch card game that Mike has been making? Nothing has been said about it for six months more, and I was super excited for it! Does anyone have any news on it?

Is this Lookouts? Or does it just look similar?
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
Let's do this!

It's Daughters of the Eyrewood.
