I recently swapped out my pins from a shadow box to a bigger cork board. Box that i had only fit about 25 and with the pins im expecting in the mail, it would not fit them all. Cork board is a temp placement until they release the official shadowbox

Pretty sure this is the one I have. Just look to any craft store to have a supply of them.

I just went to an art/craft shop. But most places that sell photo frames have them too. Just depends on the size you want.

I think mine was about $15 and the inside fit a bit bigger than an A4 paper, that could have fit 25 to 30 pins. Though truth be told it was a little flimsy, the wood box was very light, and it was actually empty inside so I had to put a block of polystyrene myself...youd probably do better at a proper framing store if you want better quality, but I knewmine was just temp so I didn't mind

I like this idea. Or at least something similar too it. Have 3 or 4 shadow boxes of pins hang up.

I have the perfect place I would hang this too, if I trust myself hanging stuff above my computer set up haha

I have everything near my PC set up. My bedroom has the bed and clothes, and the front room (where my PC is) has everything else hang up/laying around or on it. It's pretty ridiculous.

Great idea, I'm stealing that idea.

i was originally going to get a print of the baby gabe / tycho playing games and put that up near the eventual shadowbox, now tossing up between that and the pinthusiast strip. Quite a while before i do though, and will probably change my mind a hundred times before then

I think I'm going to end up buying this to hold my collection. That way I can bring it with me to shows/it's portable.

What do we know about the official Pinny Arcade shadowbox? I'd definitely be interested in it, depending on how it's set up.

My biggest concern is whether or not the shadowbox will have room for variants (every Merch year, every CTS year, etc). Personally, I hope they don't!

I was thinking that prints of all the PAX Make-a-strip would be fitting.

I'd highly doubt they make a box for literally every little variant. But I guess we won't know until they tell us.

I barely fit our entire set into one frame and then Mike announces new pins!

Sept: Daughters of the Eyrewood pin.
Oct: Halloween set.
Nov: 15th anniversary pin.

I am assuming they will be available online...
My wallet is sore.

FYI: Mike Krahulik said at the first Q&A at PAX Prime a week ago that there will be bags, books, etc to show pins. I was looking at buying my own book but now I'm thinking of waiting for the official PA one

Fellow pin pals, lend me your ears. And brains (sans squirrels, if possible).

Rather than each of us work out the best pin shipping methods on our own, let's crowdsource. Surely someone will have a bright idea or two.

Basically, I'm looking for cheap but reliable shipping methods for pins from Australia to the US and from US to Aus. I'm keen to have a tracking number too.

If we get some good info maybe we can add it to the OP (with relevant disclaimers of course).

Via PayPal, if your package is under 3 ounces (which most pins will be), you only end up paying $1.69 to ship and track it.. and the package usually arrives in 3-4 days.

Maybe there should be a rule about shipping the same day as the person you're trading with? Or coming to an agreement on what day you'll both ship and provide each other with a DC#.

Oh, and if you want to protect the pins, bubble wrap and bubble mailers are your friend! You can get 100 bubble mailers for $20 (with free shipping in there), which is a lot cheaper than going to Target or even Walmart.

Hopefully some of this helps for online trading!

Sounds good to me, but I'm on the Aus end of things so can't try this one out. Any other money saving shipping tips out there? Especially for sending from Aus?

I got a DVD type box free from USPS, but my pin in a plastic ziplock bag (with other little things) and loaded it up with packing peanuts. I made sure the bag had peanuts on all sides of it. I'm shipping tomorrow. I assume it will be like $5-7 or so. Just a guess.

Remember that USPS gives out free boxes. Just sign up on their site and they deliver for free.

Obviously there might be a cheaper option, but that is what I am doing for my first time.

I will be shipping initially from the UK. We have the Royal Mail Signed For system which will be about £12.95 to ship to Australia, including tracking. It's £12.60 to the USA.

Those are of course the 0.5kg small parcel rates since I'm shipping 30+ Pins to each person, plus shirts, scarves, etc.

Introductions: I chickened out on Pinny Arcade initially. Sure, I got my Merch pin back during the Christmas 2012 store sale -- I placed my order on Christmas Day, and Brian agreed to send me my first pin on the condition that I only refer to it, forever and always, as "a Christmas miracle" -- and ordered the Core set when it went on sale, but being that I'm from the Midwest, I don't get a chance to hit too many PAXes. Once the PAX East pins started hitting eBay, I started losing money quickly... and figured that my wallet probably couldn't stand such a premium.

Fast forward a few months, and I'm about as nutty for the hobby as one can get. I've picked up as many of the drops as I can from a distance, although I'm still seeking my holy grail, the Kickstarter DLC pin. I convinced my wife that we needed to attend PAX East next year (we figure it'll be cheaper than eBaying whatever sets hit then), and so its onward, upward from here.

TL; DR: My name's Joshuadel, and I'm a hardcore Pin Pal. Or pinthusiast. Or whatever.

thats about all we know atm.

My guess is it will be one box per series of pins. When Series 1 is over they will release a box that fits them all in, and so on for every series to come.

Back on to shipping costs: I just sent my first few pins from Aus to UK. I decided to have it registered since it was a pretty small pack and maybe its just my insecurities but I am always worried about lost mail. So registering and getting a tracking number cost...... $23 .... For such a small pack that sounded really high, but I asked what if I don't register and it would still cost the same...... Maybe I'm doing something wrong or not asking the right questions. I don't usually send international mail so that was kind of a first.

Hey Pin Pals!!!

Community announcement in regards to a feature for www.pinnypals.com.

I have wanted to announce this for awhile and we have all agreed to, The new website will have an achievement/trophy system for completing certain goals or tasks.
The reason we decided to announce is that we two achievments locked in.

The first is the year one achievment for being a pin pal when it all started, all you need to do for this one is be a forum member or here on the community page! So spread the word to your other pin pals!
Cut off for this will be new years day 2014

The second achievment is the logo vote achievment! This achievment is gained by voting on the community pin pal logo, now this one will be available for the next 2 weeks even though the votes end in 3 hours, this is so people don't miss out. All you need to do for this one is like your favourite logo and pm me with your pin pal handle.

I will be complying a list to be added to the data base so pm me here, on the forums or shoot off an email to [email protected]

P.s There may be a "ARRRRGH BRAIN SQUIRRELLS" achievment for having a complete set with time variants squirrels

I do love me some meta games. What about achievements that involve multiple objectives (quests!) like, trade with x amount of people at pax, or get a photo trading with certain PA staff members.

This year is over in regards to pax's so 2014 is going to be exciting!!
