I have a question about the 'everyone can do everything' stuff.
Just from casual observation there appear to be questlines in each of the three major cities. I don't know if they go all the way to 50, but I assume they do, or come close.
Lets say I level my Lancer to 50 that way, then switch to Limsa and do their quests to level Marauder or something. Then to Uldah because I want a Puglist as well.
That still leaves a bunch of classes, that I can only level by, what, grinding mobs and FATEs?
There's no plan, there's no race to be run
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
Each starting city gets you to roughly 15'ish before the story quest and future quests all merge. I did every quest the game had to offer on my way up on my first and only 50, and ran out of quests and had to still grind a lot of fates.
You might get a second class out of the quest system but there are even some questing gaps leveling your first character I believe.
I liked jumping in every fate I could and grinding out the last couple in CPP.
What I did was Ul'dah as the main quest town (which only really matters for the early quest stuff anyway) and only did quests in Thanalan for THM/BLM. I didn't really touch quests in the Shroud or La Nosica on the way up. So when I level CNJ more I'll do it with the quests in the Shroud and ACN in la nosica.
But yeah a decent amount of fates, some dungeons, hunting logs, maybe some leves; and I got to 50 without touching 2/3 of the side quests in the game. Though keep in mind I had almost perpetual rest. From 30-50 I never ran out since I don't play every day. The only time I had to actually 'grind' fates was 47-50. I know on utlater classes it'll be pretty much entirely fates and stuff but I'm fine with that. The writing itgn the side quests is quite good, but there's only so much they can do with another 'go get me 6 bear asses' quest; I like the chaos of fates.
Another couple of days of this moving/packing/cleaning/painting and I'll be able to set up my pc again in our temporary house and be able to play again. i'm going through such game withdraw right now.
Also, when doing battleleves, be on the lookout for chests; like the ones in dungeons it is often just hi-potions or whatever; but now and then you'll find pink gear. Not usually for the class you're playing, but nice to have either way!
I got so many errors and had to manually re-initiate my first download of the game so many times that I figured I'd try uninstalling the whole thing and installing again, to see if maybe that would fix my "game crashes within 60 seconds, always" problem.
I've had so many errors downloading the game this time that I haven't even gotten it installed again yet! I don't know that I've ever had to resubmit my username and password and manually restart a download for any game I've ever played with a launcher, even once! I'm pushing 20 times on this second attempt at an install now.
Holy fucking hell, they STILL haven't done anything about the gold spam?!
They probably have solutions already coded, but because Squeenix is a Big Company it has to go through all the committees and shit and then rolled into a big patch.
I think they said quick blacklist is being added in 2.1.
Speaking of terrible design decisions - I was going through my first impressions of FFXIV 1.0 and had forgotten how bad some of it was. Anyone else remember when experience gain happened randomly each time you used an ability (not on mob death) and made spamming your basic attack the best way to level? :?
edit: See? Some of my advice doesn't jive with that link. So since I'm a pretty fresh 50 myself, maybe go with that guide? Though seriously, I tackled Ifrit and AK as a fresh 50. Though the other 3 in AK were well-geared FC members, so that's something to consider.
Yah, tackling AK with a full group of fresh 50s would be a bad idea. >.< I mean its doable if everyone is very good at their classes and on top of their game, but for average gamers like most of us, you're better off running Castrum Maridium and Wanderers Palace to get gear, before hitting up AK.
So far all I can say about being 50 is it sucks.
Since I have hit 50, I've basically stopped being able to play.. My last 3 days since I hit 50.
*log on*
*Check FC if anyone wants to run the dungeons in which I have story/Quest for*
*No one in FC interested*
*Q up.. *
*Wait 15-60mins (As a healer)*
*Start dungeon tank /dps leaves mid run*
Rinse repeat.
=/ -- Guess I should just level every class and not worry about doing anything that is related to level 50.
"Sorry doing AK"
AK runs all day every day.
Not to say the FC hasn't been enormously helpful and will continue to help newbies, but lately I see AK being this constant, neverending obsession that ties up the most active members on all hours of the day.

AK runs generally happen at the start of the week as people who are currently setting up for BC are capping out tomes for gear. That shifts to CM runs during the week and then AK runs on sunday for people who havn't capped out yet.
A lot of us have run god nows how many CM runs to help gear people up (I was gearing myself up). Sometimes we take breaks to cap out tomes >.<.
You have to run AK 6 times to cap out, which at around 40 minutes a run is time consuming. On top of AK providing the only other ring worth getting as the Dark Light one is unique.

Good point. I still need to run Wanderer's Palace, too.
Two night ago, the last two things I did before I logged out were 1) run AK for the first time to unlock the last level of GC equipment, and 2) buy the lvl 50 GC bow (7000 seals) to get ready for farming tomes and HM Primals and such.
Last night I only had an hour or so to play, so I queued up Ifrit HM (to be my second time fighting him ever) and started chopping down trees while I waited. Ifrit came up, I hopped in, we wiped once, beat him on the second try, and Ifrit's Bow dropped. There was another Bard, but I won the roll and got the bow!
So...on one hand, I spent 7000 GC seals for a bow I used for...about 5 minutes.
I hope so and it would be nice if they added in a confirmation on buying items. I accidentally bought a Darklight ring when I meant to buy the bracers. I was pissed off at myself for a few minutes but I needed the ring anyways so it's not like I bought an item that was useless to me. That said, when I bought the item for my relic bow I made sure as hell I was clicking on the right thing.
Back then SWTOR first launched I accidentally bought a companion customization that cost half of my total credits a few levels away from buying my first speeder. Thanks to slicing and putting green drops on the GTN I made it back in a couple of days but that was a temporarily costly mistake.
That's not a bad deal then. From what I gather seals are not that important end game anyway. Is that am accurate statement?
Right now not really, there are some perks like the experience boosts for crafting and gathering, however they cap out at 50k which later on is nothing.
HOWEVER this is a big HOWEVER, not all tiers in the GC are currently unlockable, I assume this is a 2.1 thing. We can only assume that the next tiers will hold a higher ilvl gear. However there have been no hints as to what this will actually be, or if 2.1 will unlock them.
Primals breathing on someone destroys their soul and leaves behind a brainwashed slave in it's place, right?
Well, Bahamut breathed on Louisoix, didn't he?
Yeah, it's probably BS, but in 3 expansions when he comes back and turns out to be
The big bad, working to summon Bahamut
I want it to be known that I CALLED IT.
Unless Louisoix is like the player character and the Scions, in that he has the Echo, which would render him immune to it.
Story Spoilers
The Dark crystal actually uses corrupted shard to take over people, once the necklace with the shard broke when you used your power-ranger style cut scene power to break it, you broke him free of the will of the dark crystal. Bahamut is not the controller, he is a tool the dark crystal is using to bring about the end of world.

Well, I can focus on Dragoon for now then.

I don't really expect to get every class to max level on one character, but was wondering if they had a non-grindy way to do it. Apparently not.

Fuck summoning your chocobo dumping you from the Duty Finder queue
Best part? I'd been in queue for over a half hour each time >_<
2 groups and ~70 mins later, we finally beat her. It's a pretty fun fight if your party doesn't get insta-killed.

You can, but you dont get as many seals back. Once you reach the right gank in your GC, you can turn in pink and green items for seals.

And I don't care if I'll need more GC seals, need that Crested Barding!
was the first thing I got at 50 after i opened that tier.
Mog station was a step in the right direction. A step....
