so how often do quad rooms with two beds open up. I have a place at the omni right now but would prefer one of the big 3 if I could get it.
Not sure on how often, But I can tell you right now when the phone 'accidental' opening happened or w.e there was no quad occupancy. The only ones out of the three offering it was Seaport and Renaissance. Hope that helps.
Phew - two rooms opened up at Omni Parker. Hoping all those that said it was great weren't lying! I'm just glad to have some rooms now (although I'm still hoping some will open up at the Ren/Westin/Seaport that I can snag from cancellations). That's a HUGE load off my back.
Switched my reservation from priceline'd Langham to OnPeak Intercontinental. Does anyone have anything lovely to say about the Intercontinental? I mean, the walk seems basic (cross the bridge onto Seaport Lane and walk into the BCEC), but how was the staff/amenities and such?
I'm still completely hawking OnPeak for a Seaport room though. Stayed there last year and it was excellent.

I stayed at the IC in 2012 and it was great. Nice hotel, not a bad walk at all, and the first shuttle stop on the way back at the end of a long day. Staff was pleasant and the double bed room was spacious enough to accommodate 4 (w/ 2 on the floor) comfortably enough.
That being said, like you I stayed at the Seaport last year and REALLY liked it. Managed a Westin room this year, however, so I'm giving them a shot simply for proximity despite hearing they're not quite as pleasant as I found Seaport staff to be.
Yes, now we play the waiting game. I have 2 beds at the Intercontinental, but I keep checking for Westin or Renaissance rooms. When one of the good ones opens up, it creates a cascade.

I'm staying at the Doubletree downtown and don't know anything about it. Can anyone tell me about their experience with the Doubletree? Is it on the shuttle route?

It's really nice, very Asian-themed (it's next to Chinatown), 20 minute walk across water to expo hall.

There is no shuttle bus to the Doubletree itself, but there is a shuttle stop at the hotel behind it, which is less then 2 min to walk to.
Also its near the theater district and alot of food business around it also with chinatown along side it.
It is also a short 5-8 min walk to the transportation center.
Best part to me right next door to the hotel is a GIANT teddy bear statue, might want to take a pic of it
FWIW, I've been noticing that some hotels have been opening blocks of rooms up slowly through the night. The Westin, for example, just suddenly had 20 rooms pop up for Fri/Sat overnights. They took about 10 minutes to go.
Does anyone know if there's a shuttle to the embassy suites? Not a bad price cause it includes breakfast but I don't want to be stuck trying to get back at night.
This will be my first pax. I tried for 2 hours and was only able to reserve at Hyatt Regency. Can anyone comment on that? Seems a bit far to walk from.
What are the chances the 3 closer ones might have open rooms again? Are cancelations likely closer to the deposit date? Really wanted intercontinental or Westin.

Its probably from the backlog of reserve. I had to call onpeak earlier to tell em to remove like 4 reservation i had on my account that never went though cause of the server outtage. Im guessing as they remove people spare backlog more will appear.

The Hyatt Regency is a great hotel. I stayed there last year.
And there is no need to walk. The Shuttle works great, and it doesn't cost anything.

Sorry if this has already been said... but as of my posting this, you can still book at the Renaissance. No standard rates left, but if you've got a big enough group to split the (excessive) cost, the "Out and About" package is available for up to 10 guests per room... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/boswf-renaissance-boston-waterfront-hotel/
I've never been to pax but I've got my badges and managed to pick up the last 2 rooms at a hotel. I have no idea what the hotels are like though. Is the Renaissance Boston Waterfront any good???? I just picked it up for being in walking distance..
I have no, I repeat NO, idea how I did it, but through an hour of "503 server error" pages and F5ing like a madman, I somehow managed to get Friday and Saturday at the Westin. I got into the reservation page fairly quickly and then the site crashed, so I guess it must've saved the rooms in a cart or something, because it was easily half an hour to 40 minutes later that I managed to get even the credit card page to come up. I got a confirmation email, so it looks like I'm set! We decided on the Hyatt downtown for Thursday night, but I'd love to get a Thursday night room at the Westin.
One thing that confused me is that I got two identical confirmation emails for my rooms. I was buying two rooms. Now I'm concerned that I may have accidentally bought four rooms. I'll eventually call OnPeak, but I'm going to wait until the madness dies down a bit to give them some breathing room.

How far is the renaissance actually from pax. Guy said it is in walking distance but is that like a few blocks? A mile?
Stayed there my first East and it's five minutes, unless you get stuck at a crosswalk. Very close and not a tough walk at all.

Well I'm staying at the Midtown this year. Stayed there my first year going and it wasn't bad. The rooms are a bit small, but it is in the middle of everything! I looked up cab fare from the Midtown to the BCEC and it was about $15 with tip in medium traffic which isn't as bad as I figured it was. Can't wait to see you all there!
Well, that is a thing!

I also lucked up on an open Renaissance room. I'm gonna keep hope alive that a random spot at the Westin opens up, but I'm definitely not gonna complain about a few blocks.
has anyone ever stayed at the park plaza? there are a ton of rooms there...i was just wondering if people are avoiding it?
**Edit** also, I stayed at the Sheraton located at the Prudential last year and it's not on the list. My only experience booking through onPeak was last year as well. Does anyone know if rooms tend to free up later on? or is it once sold out, I can kiss it good-bye? Thanks for any help in advance!

I have stayed there the past three Easts and had no problems at all. If I didn't get one of the close three hotels, I would've wound up back there.
They have a shuttle, are within walking distance of things (burrito/chinese/711/dunkin donuts/faneuil hall/breakfast), and the rooms are a decent size from what I have been in. They do have their own restaurant and I believe a fondue place in the building, but I have never eaten at either (probably expensive compared to what is around). You can also walk to the one long street that has tons of shops and a comic shop that I usually stop in ever PAX.
This year we were able to move the table in the room in between the beds and use it for tabletop with no issues. Rooms do not come with fridges (not sure if you are able to ask for one...doubt it).
Overall, good hotel to stay at. Rooms are fine, if old. Walking distance to food. Shuttle to convention. Also, has taxis out front if you need them.
P.S. There was a fire alarm that went off in 2012 about 2-3 times at like 2am, but that is the only snafu I have ever had. Got some street passes during it. Ha.
Because the checkout page for the seaport 503'd on me, I couldn't get that Still managed to get the Omni from Thursday to Monday though. How good is the Omni from those of you who have stayed there before?

It's nice, right in the middle of town and I never had an issue getting on a shuttle last year. And if your flying into town the silver gets your within a mile and you just walk about 15 minutes to the hotel. Only downside is it's not the Westin/Seaport/Renaissance. Other than that it's great.
This will be my first time at the Westin (I have an awesome Girlfriend who used some Customer Service Kung Fu with On Peak at about 5pm) and I almost missed out on actual passes trying to book my room (Got a single bed which will be available soonish). Lesson learned: PAX is the "Reason for the Season" Passes first, hotels second. I have used the shuttles for the last 3 years and they are awesome. In conclusion though, this experience has taught me that its not a given that I will be able to go, and I shoudn't take it for granted..

Thanks! Sounds like after all the chaos, I still managed to find a pretty good hotel.

How often does the shuttle come around?
It may or may not stay the same for this year, but it's a good starting point.

Park Plaza is relatively far away. Relatively 20 min away. Most people want something closer.
