[Let's Play Democracy]Total War: Rome II - The confederacy expands. Join our Council!
Yeah, if there's no port in the Volcae territory, there really isn't much point in actually conquering them (for now). Play defense, rebuild our forces and economy, let them come to us, crush them, and force a peace. Preferably with large amounts of tribute.
Also so close to Massilia, it'll have Hellenic culture which'll make any current or new owner's population unhappy.
My logic is as follows:
1) Pictones attacks and wins - an enemy is removed from the map and if you get them to join, you get that territory anyway
2) Pictones attacks and loses - both have weakened forces. Either finish off Volcae, or turn on the Pictones and take their settlement. Their settlement is in our province.
3) Wait it out - Volcae isn't bordering us on a passable area (mountains seperate our borders). They'll have to piss a lot of people off to trespass and attack us. Those factions can be convinced to ally/confederate.
Either way, a port is needed. Either finish off our province (pictones -> Burgdegala(sp?)) or Volcae -> Massillia. I wouldn't go the Volcae/Massillia route until we can hire Delegates.

An issue has arisen during the update that requires the Council's attention.
(Of related note: With the death of Nerf, the stranglehold we had on tribal influence is slipping. It will take some time to amass the money to deal with that, however.)
Do we get the infamy just because the kid exists? What are the potential results of our options here?
The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

This boy's claim is ridiculous, he does not even look that much like me! Send him away to prevent him for further spreading this slander.

Usually I do something related to who I'm playing as, but my knowledge of Gaulish history and culture is lacking
Everybody's knowledge on the subject is lacking. The Romans were pretty thorough in their assimilation. Best resource is probably Ceasar's (undoubtedly biased) account of the Gallic Wars: http://classics.mit.edu/Caesar/gallic.html
It's a good read, even aside from it's relevance to the game.

Mini updates:
So...apparently we might want to learn to be more trusting.
But it seems we have another opportunity to improve our deliberation skills!
Also, @rockrngr integrated successfully with the Easy Legion, and will give hefty experience bonuses in their next engagement. Doing so has earned her an increase in abilities. She can choose one of the following:
Paragon: +1 authority, -10% cost to all actions, +5% chance of critical success in all actions
Partisan: +1 cunning, +5% chance to evade enemy agents
Champion: +1 zeal, +6% to movement range(when with a general)
Beat my new blood into shape Champion. They have not tasted their first blood, and could use all the training they can get. Speaking of, what does my army look like right now?

The remains of The Council's Hand are taking post at Bibracte, which will allow @Frei to bring his fully healed army into the field. Before that, however, they transferred some troops to your control. You have a full 20 units at your disposal, mostly spear men.
Also, so far, Pictones have not moved. Not once. We sent them our target 6 turns ago.

Fantastic. I am ready to roll out sir. (I don't have the game yet [Working on it] so don't send me a save). I would like to spill the blood of our enemies.

I say we let the merchant trade.
With a considerable cut of that wine going to those in charge, obviously...
With the days of my glory behind me after an especially vicious battle that left my army in tatters, I have retired to a minor position on the Tribal Council.

The wine was offered to the gods, and they were pleased! Nemossos is under a Good Omen(+2 to public order) for 4 turns.
We were also presented with another foreign merchant, this time selling spices from the distant South. The options of dealing with him remain the same. This will probably be the last minor choice before the next big update.

I feel the gods have been satisfied, and it would not be harmful to let the merchant trade.
Monopolize! Come on people, I thought we were focusing on the economy? All we gained by sacrificing to the gods was a public order bonus, which is more-or-less useless since public order isn't something we were having issues with! Money money money! If we wish to appease the gods we can do so by crushing our foes in battle.
On another note, even if the Volcae territory doesn't have a port on it, we can always build one later. Given that they don't seem to be in a peaceable mood, I would argue that continuing our war against them would be a far better proposition than opening up another war.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of info to be gleamed from this screen. It's more a snap judgement.

"A young boy..."
*Looks at picture of 'young boy'*
Does not compute.
A young boy with a full regal beard obviously has the favor of the gods. Do not spurn this omen.

Besides, luxuries entice our menfolk to idleness and weakness. A warriors drink is cold water from the stream, or the steaming blood of his enemies.
Let the skirt wearing Greeks drink wine.
Champion

That would be the blood of our enemies, not the fruits of the dirt.

I motion to give this gift of wine to the gods.
I agree, we need all the wine we can get! For... strategic purposes!
I shall deliberate.

Light duty in Bibracte - 2 levied spearmen, 2 skirmishers. The budget cannot maintain anymore until we expand.
