So the closed beta and PTR are still down because they are somehow tied to general Bnet issues instead of strictly D3... which all ties back into the fact that apparently they weren't prepared for the crush of people wanting to pre-order the beta.
I have yet to EVER see Blizz fully comprehend and OVER-compensate and always, ALWAYS, blow each and every time resources are needed for a launch of something.
I sometimes wonder if anybody at that company in their IT department has any clue or if they just enjoy trolling everybody including their own company.
This might come as a shock to you, but maintaining 24/7 uptime on a closed beta is not that important. Over-compensating with their server infrastructure is a waste of money for circumstances that are only going to occur very rarely, that's why nobody ever does it.

It's a minor nuisance at worst. Fact is there's no reliable way to know exactly the amount of traffic you're gonna get, and sometimes your guess is low. For them to always handle the demand with 100% certainty would require overcompensating the vast majority of the time, which is not worth the money for them when the stakes are so low.

Also, I remembered while driving to work today that The Frozen Throne didn't actually have a Collector's Edition. So this is Blizzard's first CE ever (out of 10) not to include an OST.

To b fair it's not just blizzard that does this. It's just most obvious for them because their games are wildly popular.
It's a tough problem. If they build too much infrastructure and te demand isn't there, they've blown a lot of money (which they'll never get back because demand is highest just before launch)

For stuff like this, preordering it at GS has always worked fine for me. BB is awful, I never want to go into a WalMart(they probably wouldn't know what a Diablo is), I didn't know Kmart still existed, and I like getting the game as soon as possible without paying additional shipping, maybe even getting it at midnight

If i'm preordering a game that isn't out yet I just do it from gamestop. I buy games from amazon if they're already out and it's easier to just do that and let it get shipped to me. I have prime so it's 2 day shipping free anyway. Then of course steam/other digital download stuff for PC games.

I will be the first person to tear into that crisp shrinkwrapping, and it will be glorious. That's my problem w/ Gamestop.
Also their trade-in values suck shit compared to the used game resell values.

My gamestop most definitely doesn't do that. Maybe if you take the display case off the wall and carry it up to them for a new game they will just slip the disc in there if you don't say anything? When I buy new games i just go up to the counter and tell them "I want a copy of X game for Y system," and they give me a shrink wrapped game of course. Just sounds like you're carrying the display case up and they're lazy so they'd rather just give you that case if you're willing to take one that's already open. I wouldn't take one that's been opened.
Their trade in values have always been good enough for me. If I trade in a game that I recently bought and finished and know I won't play it again, I usually get $25 or $30 back for it. I can't complain about getting half of what I paid back to put towards other games. /shrug

saw PTR at a friend's. immediately went home and downloaded it and goddamn it's so much fun. witch doctor's acid rain is awesome, there's a new zombie dog charge (I think it's new anyway) that I really like.
got 3 uniques in about an hour of play. 2 were straight upgrades iirc but the third, I dropped like 15k health BUT increased my dps about 10% and became immune to cold damage. in fact cold damage now heals me for 25% of what I ignore. that's such a cool effect! and an interesting decision I got to make!
I thought I was going to wait til the expansion released but the minute I saw him playing I knew I was gonna be sucked back in. I'm very pleased with the items and the drops and I still haven't seen the stuff I'm -actually- most looking forward to. Adventure mode and bounties being #1 for me.

also free impale DH ended up being weak, but then I leveled wizard to 70. now that's a good class
wiz is the light on ptr, i suppose that will carry over into RoS
