The problem isn't that I can't prove it's fake. The problem is that I can't do it without starting a fight and I would rather just let her enjoy herself with it.

Is it seriously hurting anyone that your mom wants to believe in some mermaids? If it makes her happy then yeah, fuck it, it ain't like she's denying you medical care because she's into reiki or some shit.
Also, I really need to watch Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Somehow every time I try to, something fucks up the streaming or I get interrupted.
Who else remembers Child of Rage? Yeah. That one will gut you.
@Rankenphile, I'm most of the way through Rivers and Tides now. This is really interesting and beautiful work. It's pleasingly arresting to see something that looks unnatural made out of the totally natural materials of the vicinity.

Jesus Christ, Kate, that looks fucking heartbreaking. I don't know if I could even deal with that.
Instead! If anyone has not seen Sound City, I absolutely cannot recommend it highly enough. Just a wonderful trip through a very particular tunnel of rock history, only to surface an hour later surrounded by music icons playing in the modern day for the sheer love of rocking out.
I would kiss Dave grohl on the mouth for days and days and days.
I really didn't like This Film Is Not Yet Rated. I thought it was generally pretty facile and focused heavily on that stupid fucking private eye gimmick. It came from that period where every documentary was in that obnoxious Moore/Spurlock mould where it was more about having an axe to grind than educating. That's not to say the rating system isn't terrible, and there's definitely the material for a good documentary there. TFINYR just isn't it.
I still cannot believe that I watched Spurlock's 'Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden' in a cinema. It was so bad.

You guys you guys, the best news.
Not only is all of Sound City up on YouTube legitimately:
It was Connections that really got me watching History channel. Like Wings got me watching Discovery channel. Course, now I don't watch either, but that's neither here nor there.

The Act of Killing is absolutely terrifying and one of the best documentaries of the last decade

But so is, apparently, nearly ALL of James Burke's Connections series and other documentaries. This is a big deal.

holy shit holy shit holy shit
All fucking week I've been sick as a dog, watching documentaries between bouts of cold sweats and fever naps.
And hours and hours and hours of my favorite historical series ever was just sitting there waiting for me.
I just looked that up on Wikipedia.
I think I'll go stare at a wall for a while
Thanks a bunch for posting that link
Aptly named, its a depressing look into all the suicides that happen on the Golden Gate Bridge.
I decided to watch Senna since it was on Netflix. That was really good.
