Sorry, it just seemed like you were equating requiring a network connection for network features to daily online check-ins.
No, message reception (well after MS changed its initial position, but were still advertising online-only functions). The lesson learned, apparently, was "Don't say anything about it, especially if you had a position change."
Okay, yeah. That's much more like what I was looking for in a Dead Rising The setting still feels a bit drained of life and monotone, but eh, it's just a small trailer. The mood definitely seems to be there though. This could certainly push me toward getting an XB1 sooner than later if the launch stuff all goes well.
I think it is more matching the lighting / feel of a town like this, as opposed to a mall or a casino.
Because it is a much bigger playground, I am hoping there is a mall, casino or somewhere similarly garish and bright in this town that you can romp through, just for contrast.
I'm probably the only one who noticed, but running while shooting still looks like shit.
Well tbf, if you're playing Dead Rising and not using melee weapons all the time... you may be doing it wrong. :P
Makes me wonder why they include them then....
To kill humans with multiple headshots, obv. :P
Still doing it wrong! You should be using a cleaving weapon. :P
It honestly feels like there's an industry-wide attempt to sabotage the XB One. Even Microsoft is in on it. They just can't catch a break. It's one bad PR moment after another.
What should be considered a coup de grace for MS having locked down a major next-gen franchise has somehow turned against them as EA and MS are demonized for taking away control from the creators.
Its not an industry thing, Microsoft has just had a really bad time handling the press with the X1. Just look at this week. We have rumors of parts of the X1 OS crashing, Live services not working, and 720p games. Rather than being upfront with people about things, they keep sweeping them under the rug which simply adds fuel to the fire.
Meanwhile, Sony has been fairly upfront about system issues (from flat out telling people that their PS3 wireless headsets won't work to informing them which features aren't going to be available at Launch on the PS4) so that when they don't answer a question (see how they avoided giving an answer to COD 1080p) people assume the best rather than the worst.
Microsoft needs to be more honest in dealing with the public, because as long as the go "Deny, Deny, Deny" people are going to speculate like mad. The Internet loves rumors, after all.
I wonder if that's the right way to look at it though: for a while, Sony flat-out avoided specifics on the PS4, particular when it came to OS functionality and their new social network aspects, while Microsoft came out and flooded the press with details. And everyone hated Microsoft for it. Now Microsoft avoids talking about things, and people are still unhappy. The narrative became, "Microsoft reveals function, explains deeply how it works, people complain; Sony reveals function (sometimes very similar function), refuses or obviously avoids commenting on how it works, people are happy." The necessity for the PS4 to be always connected for remote online functions comes to mind.
I'm not claiming MS handled PR better (quite the contrary), but "being upfront" hasn't done them well at all, at least from my perspective. For Sony, skirting around the issues was a major part of their reveal, and it seemed to do them well. "If you're going to lie, lie well," I guess. Sony is much better at that.

I don't think they had problems when they were being open about things due to PR issues. I think they had problems when they were open about things due to them showing systems that people really hated (like the daily check-in DRM).
The problem with that is that now that Microsoft is avoiding issues, the general populace default mindset seems to be "If they were willing to be open about stuff like the daily check-ins, how bad is the news that they're not willing to talk about?"
The X1 has really become one big PR nightmare for Microsoft. I'm not sure anything other than time will really be able to fix it for them. Which, honestly, really sucks because there are a lot of really good ideas in the X1 that I would love to see become standard next generation when we have a better broadband internet structure, but are just too far ahead of the curve right now for the majority of people. Kind of like the Dreamcast, come to think of it.
I don't understand what you think Sony even "avoided talking about".
Every time I've heard Sony say "We're not ready to talk about that", they've come out and talked about it when they were ready. And it's been fine because they've been totally open about why they're doing what they're doing - good or bad - and stuck to it. They said old PS3 headsets wouldn't work, but new headsets would be packed-in. People were pissed, but they got over it because the message never changed. I heard conflicting reports all over the place as to if the XB1 came with a headset or not.
Sony hasn't backtracked on a single thing. They've never "lied". You can even play PS4 games instantly if you choose to never hook your system up online.
Microsoft literally said "We can't just flip a switch and turn off this DRM."...and then flipped a switch and turned it off.
I'm not trying to be a fanboy or whatever - but to say that Microsoft and Sony pretty much operated the same way, only Sony did it better, is just wrong. Sony came out with clear messaging once they had internally agreed on what was going on with the system. Everyone at Sony had the same message, the same facts, no matter when you asked them or what you asked them. Microsoft has had numerous high ranking people give totally conflicting answers within the span of hours. It's not even close to the same.
Hell, 2 weeks before launch I have a list of what the Day 1 PS4 patch includes, and what won't be ready for launch. I still have no idea when the XB1 will let me attach an external drive, and if they will cap the size of the drive (like they capped memory sticks).

Microsoft were honest about their vision for the next generation and how they were going to achieve it and in my opinion were severely punished for it. Sony on the other hand were vague and pandering and got rewarded. Add to this an extremely hostile gaming press who, along a bunch of "anonymous sources" have been happy to trash Microsoft all summer and it is not surprising that Microsoft have decided to keep quiet.
I never owned one, but I'm pretty sure the original Xbox was the same thing - broadband only, no modem. People freaked out. Always dragging people into the future can be a real hassle. I'm hopeful they bring back the family sharing thing as an opt in. MS were pretty open about having a billion set aside for exclusives, wonder if they're going to buy the entire Titanfall series or if they have a clause to that effect.
Sony was pretty cagey about their plans for DRM and such, there's no doubt in my mind that the company that root kitted people with audio CDs had no problem with the same ideas that MS were public about, but then backtracked when they saw the backlash and an opportunity to hamstring the competition.
RE: external drives - 'Penello confirmed the console's USB 3.0 port will allow external hard drives to be connected and that those drives are allowed to store all of the data types that the internal hard drive supports, including Xbox One game installs and downloads.'

I followed the console announcements pretty closely, and I have no idea what you mean.
I can't remember Microsoft ever being "open and honest" about their vision. Other than AFTER they axed the family sharing being like "Oh yeah it was super great sorry you missed it", I remember not having any concrete details whatsoever about it at the XB1 announcement, and it only showing up in vague documents people found. I remember them dodging how often it needed to "phone home". I remember having a lot of questions.
If Sony "pandering" is making a funny video about how you can share games you own by handing them to others...beyond that I have no idea what Sony was ever vague about. At E3 they literally had giant bullet points about how the used game policy worked - which was what people were asking about. Because Microsoft said "We're still working that out", so people wanted to know Sony's policy, and they made it as un-vague as it could be.
I'd really like examples because I don't see it at all.

Given how much of Sony's market is based in countries where such a DRM would be impossible, I think it's pretty safe to say that no, it was never on the table. Microsoft doesn't have that issue because they've never cared about markets like India, etc. To suggest they were based on absolutely NO evidence is ridiculous.
Also, if you think Respawn are going to sell their series to a corporation after what happened with Activision, you haven't been paying attention.
Nor have you paid attention to the fact that Microsoft have confirmed that external drives won't be supported at launch.

So I've been looking at titan fall a good bit recently, and I really want to play it, but given that it's EA what are the chances of a steam release? Because I'm sure as fuck not going to play it on origin since my account was stolen.
If they don't drop it on steam I sadly won't be playing it.

Well...seeing as EA are handling the distribution of it. Origin seems very likely.
I mean from what I understand Respawn isn't directly owned by EA and doing that partners deals.
But seeing as its an upstart company and EA more than likely wants the game to stay on Origin, they might not have much say in the matter.
I mean it might end up being different, but as of right now it seems very unlikely.
It looks neat but for the love of Christ who is that aimed at? Like how many things are you going to be jumping between? OH HEY PACIFIC RIM JUST A SEC GOTTA PLAY TITANFALL FOR 11 SECONDS WAIT THAT'S DEONTE ON SKYPE HEY GRANDMA WHAT'S FOR DINNER SHIT GAME OF THRONES IS ON GOTTA GO BYE XBOX OFF
I got a kid with ADHD and even she is more focused than that video demo.
Oh man, a demo showed off features being used in rapid succession rather than in a natural method so the video would take 2 minutes instead of 2 days? Microsoft must think we're ADHD babies, go fuck 'em!

Yeah, I'm not worried about host drops, I'm worried about suddenly losing my entire team because the next Breaking Bad came on or something.

I wouldn't say that. Other EA Partners developers have been able to self-publish on Steam, so it is possible (Kingdoms of Amalur is the obvious example).
But if it comes down to it and you want to play it, just use Origin. Sure, it's no Steam or GOG but it's still a huge improvement over Uplay and GFWL. It's a passable enough client and certainly not worth boycotting a game over (unless said game is only available on the Origin store, then feel free to avoid their horrendous prices).

Well in the interest of curiosity, i decided to try and sign up (again) for origin with the same email and ID i used back when BF3 was released. I was able to get that all back it seems (not the game obviously)... a bit confused to be honest, do they delete accounts after a while? Since ive got my gamer tag back i might be willing to use origin for a few games, though i highly dislike not being able to use steam.
Planning on picking up Dead Rising, KI, and Forza on launch day. Though I will just be doing pure digital downloads for this gen. Curious what other people are psyched about - I got BF4 on my PC so not grabbing that for my XOne.

Dead Rising, Killer Instinct and Crimson Dragon
Possibly Forza, and AC4, depending on if I beat AC3 beforehand, and if I have the $$$ to burn.
SW-4158-3990-6116
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
I'm still working on getting the money for the console at launch. It's hard to justify with two very young kids at home and Christmas right around the corner. If I do get it though, I'm torn between Dead Rising 3 and Ryse. Dead Rising 3 looks like a ton of fun, but Ryse keeps looking better and better. Plus, it's a new IP. I will be getting Killer Instinct for sure though.

I get the sense that Ryse will probably cost 20-30 bucks by February. I want I play it, but I think at 60 bucks that title is probably a mistake.

I'll take that into consideration. I'll probably end up with both before Titanfall, but only one at release.
Yeah, Ryse looks like it has tremendously improved since E3 - but I'm going to hold off on that one until I've seen a few complete reviews or something.
Gonna be dual platforming for a while, myself... so Dead Rising is the launch title. Opted to get Lego Marvel Super Heroes next gen, and just play out my backlog from there since I have a lot of overlap to go through.

If the interface works this good, it's gonna be so awesome.
So... this means expect more people to randomly drop out of in the middle of matches?
you're not lightening the mood at all, syndalis.
I'm getting the impression people are looking for things to be negative about.
If that video was real-time that's properly amazing. My only wish that they haven't spoken about is that I'll be able to put my PC through HDMI into the Xbox One so I can switch between Xbox One and my desktop while I wait for things. So often I'm waiting for someone to join GTA Online or for a map change in something like BF3 and have to switch inputs to my PC. It sounds like no big deal but the wait gets old fast, would be nice to be able to switch quickly.
Really like the snap thing too for things like Skype or Youtube.
I'm guessing that upload video thing won't be quite that smooth though, I'd be surprised if it even let you upload stuff while you're playing a match still.
well sometimes I play 3DS with my phone next to it for forum browsing while watching netflix... so I guess me?
My SO laughed at me today for playing Candy Crush while waiting to respawn in BF4 and then browsing Reddit on a tablet. I think I am Microsoft's Target Audience nowadays. I love Windows 8, I love my Surface, I love all I've played and watched of the Xbox One so far. Maybe they're spying on me to find out exactly what tech I want.

Planning on getting exactly the same as you, played all three and can't wait for them. Might get ACIV as well but not sure what platform to get it on. Hoping MS will send me a review copy of Ryse and then COD is a possibility if I don't get it for PC. I really don't want to play it with keyboard and mouse but I guess I have to if I get it on PC.

Geeze, I missed a lot--who did they bully? Frankly, I don't even remember Microsoft even laughing that much before immediately going on the defensive and trying, in vain, to make their case. Who was bullied?
EDIT: To be clear, I'm genuinely curious about this. And compared to the hate machine, I imagine it could have been pretty easy to miss.

"Oh shit, my team's getting hammered right now! XBOX, RAGEQUIT!"
Possibly Forza, and AC4, depending on if I beat AC3 beforehand, and if I have the $$$ to burn.

I get the sense that Ryse will probably cost 20-30 bucks by February. I want I play it, but I think at 60 bucks that title is probably a mistake.

I'll take that into consideration. I'll probably end up with both before Titanfall, but only one at release.

Another new trailer for Dead Rising 3 (I don't think this would show on most TV stations though)
Sorry for the triple post, just catching up on this forum.
