My Dad is three blocks away (he works in the Yard).
He says that every building is on lock down, navy security has requested a check in every hour to make sure everyone is accounted for, and that everyone has been instructed to lock their doors and stay away from windows.
Also, when I called (a little over an hour ago) he said that one person had been flown out medevac and nine more were wounded but he doesn't know their condition.
he will be calling me as soon as navy security gives him the ok that everything is safe.
At least three victims now at Washington Hospital Center; press conference saying they should all survive but are in critical condition due to "multiple gunshots"
Quantity of bullet holes indicate gunman almost certainly used a semi-automatic/automatic weapon
Edit: to clarify, that is statement from hospital person, not personal opinion etc.

Or you could, you know, pick a different thread to make jokes in than the one about four people being shot to death, thanks
Fuck me right...I use humor to help myself and hopefully others deal with stressful things in a thread about a nutjob shooting people.
Thanks for being the thread monitor and my moral compass.
Please help yourself to a healthy portion of giving an actual shit about how this might be sensitive to a lot of other people
No one is asking for your particular unique special brand of "help" so maybe you can try the big boy adult thing now and wait until we know if any of our friends are dead or not before mistaking this thread for an open mic

Yahoo is saying a shotgun, but there were reports of two gunmen.

Man
I just came in here to say I was worried about some friends who work there
But holy condescension batman
People deal with stress different ways, guy, its not a "big boy" thing to deal with it one way and childish to deal with it another
I'm sitting here hitting refresh on CNN to see what's going on too, I get that you're upset, but humor is in fact a coping mechanism for some people and shitting on someone for using it isn't productive
CNN only said one shooter and that he was carrying a rifle.
It's difficult to tell if these are just confused witness accounts or if some people start making up facts to get the scoop "first"
I just hope the number of injured/dead ends up being lower.
Yahoo names an actual witness who says he saw the shooter:
Rick Mason, an administrative specialist program management specialist for the U.S. Navy, told Yahoo News he was on the fourth floor when he saw a shooter had a shotgun, aiming down into the atrium. The gunman, Mason said, was targeting people who walked into the cafeteria.
More local info: the ground hold at the airports is lifted but all schools in the vicinity are still on lockdown. So if you or people you know have kids attending school in the area they are likely confined to indoors at the moment.
The recent press conference just said that the additional suspects are possibly armed and appear to be wearing "military style outfits." That's.... not really good to hear, becuase it could be anything from former/current Navy Yard employee to disgruntled military personnel to the Beltway Sniper incident from a few years back.
It's likely NOT the latter, because I remember passing by the Navy Yard when I worked in DC. It's a military facility; there's literally know way the shooter could have gotten in without security access.
Edit: news saying it's now "unconfirmed information" that the shooter they killed was a Navy employee.
Well, what I'm HOPING about the "additional suspects" things is.... again, the Navy Yard is a military installation. Optimistically, the accounts of other guys in fatigues carrying weapons could actually be security personnel.
A few years back this was more common to see than you'd think. When I worked in DC it was when we still had the "Color Alert System" and if it ever went up to Orange, you could expect to see SWAT guys on the subway.

Our flight to DC from Lansing was delayed because they locked down the airport.
Here, let's lighten this up (based on the thread title):
What do you call a dwarf psychic that has escaped police custody?

a joke
Live press conference: two potential other shooters persons of interest, perhaps accomplices still unaccounted for.
It feels very weird that we are having a presentation on Violence Prevention today with this happening just a few metro stops away.
I just got an all clear email for my company's personnel in that area but I'm still on edge because of the conflicting reports
Was also told Navy Yard has notified all employees working from home or en-route/returning from lunch etc. to turn around and stay home
Yahoo names an actual witness who says he saw the shooter:

If it's accurate, it sounds more like disgruntled co-worker than a similar attack like Nidal Hassan committed in Texas.

That's a very good point. It's why in not disagreeing with what other people are posting.
Just making sure all the info is out there.

Hey Sassori another update for you if you/your friend needs it. Direct from US Navy:
