Teleglitch looks cool, but I'm just finding my patience for roguelikes quickly approaching zero.

Yeah I think I've determined that without some sort of ongoing unlock system like Rogue Legacy or FTL, roguelikes just aren't holding my attention. :(

While there's no unlock system per say, every x number of levels you clear you can choose to start two levels previous to it every time you start a new game (level 3 start for reaching level 5, for example) so it can help prevent a bit of burnout. I do agree that roguelikes have been in vogue for so long that it's become too easy to have your fill with them and then get sick of it. Teleglitch just does so much right that I find it one of the more fun roguelikes thanks to the gameplay.

But I won't hold it against you for feeling a bit of apprehension towards it.
    I totally am.

Wow that was awesome! On a whim I fired off an email to the guy behind Ironclad Tactics to ask him what the plans for the additional campaigns looked like and if they had any plans to address the fact that people were finding it hard to find people to do the skirmish/nemesis stuff for bonus cards.

Got an email back within hours, the additional campaigns are planned to hit 1.5 and 3 months out from now, costing $5 a pop and they are planning on adding a new game plus mode to the current game to let you get the bonus cards without needing another person.

Nothing but respect for the guys behind the game now, that is awesome customer service. At work at the moment but, I would really like to give away a couple copies of the game to share the love and get some other people to enjoy the game. But, uh, I have no idea how this giveaway link thingies work. Anyone mind firing me off a PM to run me through the basics?

I completed Dishonoured. Another game cleared out my backlog!

I loved the setting more than I expected, but it was the background lore that really worked for me. The Outsider and general strangeness of the setting scratched my love for eldrich cosmic horror that I rarely get to have scratched. Things like The Heart, and where it obviously came from, made the game super-creepy awesome. The art style was one I wasn't initially a fan of, but it worked for the game. The mission with the three sisters? The palace interior is without a doubt one of my all-time favourite video game locations, just based on how everything looks. I went on a tour of Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh a few years back, and that level reminded me of that so much.

The stealth aspects of the game never really ceased to annoy me on some level, and in the final level I apparently accidentally killed someone at some point, so no hands-clean achievement. Still, I enjoyed the game, enough that I'm considering getting the DLC this Christmas during the Steam Winter Sale. It also has me looking forward to Thief, which had only previously been a blip on my radar. I'll say this: it made a huge difference for me when I came up trying to use a controller for the game and switched over to KBAM. I know gamepads work for some people, but it just wasn't working for me. Using KBAM made the game so much easier for me it was ridiculous.

Next up is probably some combination of Din's Curse, Bleed, Evoland, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, Blood Dragon, Afterfall InSanity, and/or The First Templar.

Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

They actually have pretty good controls on it, when you're chopping or whatever there's a zoom bubble that helps you focus on what you're chopping/building, kinda wish they'd add that to the PC build to be honest. There's also a demo to check it out for free.

Man, Magic2014 seems to want you to fail; or at least buy extra decks. Can't get out of the tutorial until you use the completely unfocused starter green deck against the "Fuck you, burninate" red deck.

Took like, 5 tries before I pulled the deck's single Primeval Bounty and buried the AI under 3/3 creature tokens. But if that was the theme of the deck, shouldn't there be like, 4 of those in there? Because trying to take on a red deck with a bunch of instants, 5/1 creatures, and flyers that can be resurrected from the graveyard for a few mana with some random, unfocused medium-size green beasts is an exercise in frustration.

"Are you sure you want to quit? A few more turns couldn't hurt."

Fallen Enchantress, that's just fucking mean. Still having a lot of fun with this one, particularly capturing cities and then holding them while their previous owner sends units - scores of armed slaves, in this case - to try to take them back. Quoting 300 is optional, but recommended.

In other news, I don't know where I got all these Shadow Warrior coupons, but I may have to partake. What's the consensus so far? Worth the $40 (-10%) for what I hope is some good old-fashioned loud, dumb fun?

You can limit your download speed in Steam, this way you could drop it to 100k and let it rock all night or whatever and unless you're really hurting for bandwidth that shouldn't cause too much of an impact.

Also, man, where do you live?

Once Steam library sharing comes out of beta maybe you could convince someone with better internet access to receive your library, download the larger games you want, and then use Steam's archival backup feature to make backup copies which they could then sneakernet/fedex you on DVDs or whatever. Then you could just reinstall through Steam using the backups and be in business.

I think that the MAgic games are not good friendly starter games. If you don't have solid knowledge of how to play, and manage your deck, you will not win, IMHO. When you win cards, it auto adds them. This leads to your deck getting to large, and not right. This leads to lose. This leads to frustration, and if you don't know what your doing, rage quit.

That being said, if you manage your deck, know what your deck is doing, and how it should play it is fun. I just don't think it is a gateway drug.

So had to write this, in skyrim, ragnvald, if you have the quest to use scrolls to make flaming cloak from J'Zargo. If you cast the cloak. And walk to the final chest, the boss spawns by being hit by the cloak, even if you don't put a skull in it to open. And than he toasted me, but that is a different story.

Drake wrote a stirring recommendation a few pages back. I've since picked it up as well and I would also say it's a firm "Yes". It's a great throwback to the older style FPS games such as Serious Sam: no taking cover, lot of explosions, large enemy groups, copious gore, lots of secret areas. One of my favorite aspects is that the sword remains a viable option throughout the game, even after you acquire the better guns. It pays off a lot to mix it up with sword, ninja magic and guns during each fight.

I've been having a great time. Given that you're hoping for loud, dumb fun, I think you'll be well satisfied.

Guys, I have important news. Saints Row: The Third is amazing. I never played GTA games as a sociopath, and it was extremely liberating to just run around with Oleg and beat the shit out of everything and everyone. Also, pay attention to the tips. Game got a ton easier in the third act after I started upgrading my guns. Also, I looked at my save time and I have only about 15 hours which seems crazy short for all of the ridiculous things I did. Seriously, Bully is still my number 1 open-world game, but I've got a new 2 (supplanting Just Cause 2). Next time it's $5 or whatever my buddy who loves GTA is getting gift-bombed right in the face.

    SR4 is even better!

If it's cheap this winter I will be picking it up. $50 is too rich for me right now. And if I wait long enough maybe I can get a GotY pack. Speaking of, of the DLC I have Gangstas in Space and Trouble with Cones were neat. GenkiBowl wasn't for me, but I hate the timers in Genki's events. And the shark gun was all sorts of great. I don't care that it only held 3 shots. I covered guys in chum and then watched land sharks tear them apart. I don't know what I expected, but I'm super glad that's what I got.
