Sync dropping will probably work with how few 12v12 teams there are right now.
I would say it might be hard to figure out who is going to play who. Depends on how many teams are playing.
Nah, you just have all the team leads in a chat room to coordinate; no one drops until the previous set is matched. As long as there's no non-tourny teams playing, it'd work.
Maybe it's because I'm watching the stream on low quality, but when he goes to free cam, everything just kind of looks brown and it doesn't actually show me anything useful. You can barely pick the mechs out from the scenery.
I watched all of 15 seconds....play by play guy was just ... "Now, for those that don't know...that is a medium laser! We are currently watching XXXXXX, he is in a DDC. For those that don't know...he can take a guardian ECM. Here is his loadout (even though we can just see it)."
I'm not sure who they are catering to? The only people who would want to watch this tournament already know how to play....

And the people watching this who don't play (if there are any at all) sure as hell aren't gonna start!
honestly listening to "play by play" (heaviest possible airquotes) of various online video games has made me re-evaluate the competency of your average commentator on a sporting event

The biggest issue Phil has is he picks someone he knows and focuses on him. This is very poor for a team game like this.
For as good as koreanese is, he's more of a loner player. I don't remember him playing much with buddies, save other noteworthy personalities that manage to drop with him.
as for the PR tournament... I'm rather lukewarm about it.
mainly because there are no oosiks in it. Secondly, they are dropping in actual weight restricted matches, which have no bearing on the current state of the actual game play.
I might catch the semifinals and if they are interesting, I'll watch the through to the final match. I'm not breaking out the Superbowl foodstuffs, though.
Fuck the meta. This'll make for some kickass matches. Hopefully it'll spur on PGI to finally implement some weight limits.
I bet if the 12-man groups were changed to the same limitations as this tournament, participation by 12-man groups would skyrocket immediately. Every match being required, by the very nature of the mode, to have to have an even spread of mech types would mean the mode would be playable by folks other than those looking to do heavy/assault stacks to try to and steamroll everything.
Regular matchmaking could pretty desperately use that system, too; put up an indicator showing the wait time on each of the weight classes, then let people pick on their own whether or not they want to wait to use that heavy or jump right in with a light.
Most of the reason PGI can't get matchmaking to work worth crap is that balancing player ability along with mech weight is just way too variable to ever be done well if teams can have any random composition whatsoever. I don't know why, but PGI has had the wierdest obsession with avoiding any and all possible limitations in the game, even the utterly sensible ones. Adding some structure would make the game a whole helluva lot easier for them to balance.
It would be real easy too. Just require each 4 man group to consist of 1 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy, and 1 assault.
They need to do that to the regular matchmaker as well. Would make games so much better.
Wouldn't even require a major system overhaul, unless the game really is coded completely ass-backwards. 4-man groups taking nothing but assaults is chronic issue that contributes to a lot of the fun-wrecking that happens.
Though a better solution would be to simply cap 4-man groups on weight in general, but PGI oh-so-wisely decided to bundle that crap in with the mythical UI 2.0 update. Why they couldn't just do a minor update of the current UI to handle backend changes to 4-man groups is another item that completely escapes rational understanding; in terms of UI, all it would take is a little marker beside each party member's name that says the weight of the mech everyone has, with another box at the top showing how much the team is over/under the weight limit.
They updated the UI frequently during closed beta, so unless they simply fired the folks who built that, there's no good reason at all as to why they couldn't have made this sort of UI update several months ago.
Your vitriol completely escapes rational programming.
I prefer to think of it as a garden of well-tended rage, frequently treated to ample amounts of fertilizer.

I've never been a big fan of NGNG. They certainly aren't making any converts right now.

I'm not watching the stream, so I don't even know about the MWO commentators. It's just that any time you watch any online game that has commentary, it's invariably terrible. Some of this is because most games aren't built with commentary in mind; most games don't really have an overhead spectator cam for example, so commentators are stuck swapping perspectives (if they can even do that.) But it's also because it's just difficult to speak extemporaneously for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, even on a subject you're knowledgeable about.

I really want announcements, but I don't even see them on the itinerary unless it is the half-hour block of time titled: 7:00pm Presentations + Door Prizes
Half an hour split between door prizes? Doesn't seem like enough time to even demo UI 2.0. I'd love a full hour with the dev team talking about stuff. Interview with FlyingDebris. Maybe some Crytek reps to talk about how glad they are people are debugging their engine down to the assembly code and how they are doing everything they can to make sure MWO is a shining example of how awesome it is to develop with their tech. A presentation on how Community Warfare is going to work similar to their UI 2.0 breakdown on the forums. A clan teaser / Timberwolf silhouette?
Assault: AS7-D-DC or Highlanders
Heavy: CTF-3D or Jagermechs
Light: Jenner or SDR
Medium: only category with any variation I have seen CN9's HBK's CDA's and I think a BlackJack
Well that last fight was an outlier. The winning team had an LRM boat STK and a QKD on it. Of course the twitch stream spent half the match watching the STK stare at a rock and launch LRM's.

Ok Pick Dog.
Ditto. Man. Like someone said above, good commentary is hard, but....I mean...this is not entertaining.
Play by play needs to be unbiased. It's not fun when your announcers just slobber over one person.

Edit: The two announcers were calling opposite teams in the lead that match. That is dumb.
Double edit: Guys, do you think we need to adapt and overcome?

Oh, I called oyu out because he was talking about a rage garden, and mantis's are like...the best thing for a garden.

Win by backcap. Anticlimactic.
Watch Outreach_News on twitter for the non-NGNG play by play (or at least as well as I can manage off the stream.)
