I highly doubt that the... er.... let's go with Tree Brontosaurus is going to lay a hand on her. It doesn't have any kind of malevolence in its face. Hell, it has an expression like a puppy at the animal shelter.
There's zero question in my mind Hanna's going to help it out; the real question is how's it going to get done.
I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.

See, I figured the expression on her face was more of a "this is what I am going to become."
And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn

Man, this makes me want an Eyrewood Bestiary (and pin set) even more. So cool. I love the creature design in this world. Can't wait to see more of this particular beastie. I have a player in my regular group RPG who always manages to get herself a pet / animal companion. Every game. No matter the character. Often massive and dangerous, but they love her. I can't help but think Hanna might end up doing the same. Then again, I guess all the creatures of the forest are connected to her, in a way, now that she's a Daughter.

but let me know, I have always wanted a nightmare life-in-death hound with glowing eyes to call my very own

So, question I should know the answer to and don't: Is there a tag I can use to find all the comics set in this world? Everyone has been throwing all this lore around in these threads, and my memory of them is too hazy to follow.

Eyrewood Bestiary has been pitched to Mike as a possible project through the Pin FAQ. Either a Jerry Solo, or more likely a joint project using sketches. And this comic just proves why we want and need one. How awesome would it be to have a copy that you can thumb through and find out just what the hell that thing is?
I can see this going several different ways for Hanna. Either this thing attacks her and she reflexively uses the forest to protect herself, or it leaves her be and wanders off because she is a Daughter, or she helps heal it, or she helps it against the Lookouts.
I kind of want to see all these things played out for different reasons.

Doesn't look to be a single one for the archives, but this should be all of them (check the newsposts for extra lore):

Yeah That suggestion was made by me. Thanks for adding it to the FAQ. I really like all the details you mentioned when you pitched the Bestiary to Mike. Sounds amazing! I really hope they do it someday. Seems like they're as enamoured with the Eyrewood as we all are, so I think it's a possibility.

I agree. Those sorts of scenarios went through my mind too. I'd love to see any of them (or whatever other cool thing they come up with).

Huh...
Now there's a symbiotic relationship, I bet!
First, look at the beast's legs. There are scars there - and deep ones, old ones, slashes and stabs.
Second, look at the "Wrinkles," and the folds, and the fact that only some of the creature's boughs have leaves/grass on them.
Third, that back covering looks like moss... Long moss.
Fourth, its size. Compared to the blades and the trees, the thing is about the size of a small elephant.
So let's assume, one way or another, that the beast is ancient. I'm getting the feeling that it is hundreds of years old.
In a forest like that, and with those scars, the beast is likely a survivor. It also isn't chasing after the Lookouts - if anything, they are performing a training drill, and then are fleeing to let the creature die. But the creature looks in no danger of dying - sure, it is bleeding, but not horribly so, and none of the blades go that deep.
Instead, the beast just took it. And now it's looking at Hannah as if saying your turn.
The forest has a symbiotic relationship with the towns, and the people. It takes a tithe in return for living there...
This beast is teaching the Lookouts how to protect the town from the forest, perhaps against younger creatures of its kind or other creatures, in a "safe" environment. Similarly, it is about to teach Hannah how to protect the forest from the Lookouts... Or maybe just to heal the forest, for that's all the forest needs.
This creature's seen things, man.

I also need to check if Mike's kept the classical journey from the West to the East (left to right) the entire time. She's paused a few times, but I think this moment represents the first time she's ever turned back - even if she's really still on her knees, her profile is to the left with her looking over her shoulder.

I'm guessing she'll be able to communicate with the beast, and will end up helping it. Possibly unleashing some forest magic or whatever on some Lookouts.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Notice how Hanna is wearing a green cloak, just the same colour green as the cloaky-looking cloths hanging from that creature's barkhorns?

I took those to be the cloaks of a couple of the Lookouts, either snagged during the struggle, or perhaps deliberately hooked on the antlers to confuse or disorient the Creature.
And given that the Lookouts have booked (“We have struck deep boys – run!”), I don’t think Hanna will be confronting them (at least not right away). I think that priority number 1 will be helping the Creature with its Sworditis.

Since Gabe has repeatedly said that he's putting extra time & love into the art for this series, I think this is a time where you really can read into every little subtle microexpression and meaning you notice in the visuals.
For me, the Branchosaurus/Treeceratops look in the last panel is in no way aggressive toward Hanna, it's more of a "little help?" It's not a wimpery "woe is me" pose where any passerby would reach out and help him; he's too much of a badass monster for that. He'll just keep stomping through the woods on his way to death if he has to. But oh, there's one of them Eyrewood Daughters over there. "Aren't you supposed to be doing something here?"
Final panel of part 10 will be Hanna riding this guy around. Because epic mount.
Also, we're getting a whole new look with the forest here. The fantasy-bright colors from the first strips are completely gone thanks to the storm. And Mike just totally nails this rendition, too. I love the color mix and the whole look of the undergrowth. Superb!

What I love is that the exact same Lookouts dialogue and monster-encounter in a Lookouts point of view comic would have us cheering for them and thinking they were awesome, but with this point of view it comes across as dark, creepy, and wrong.

Indeed, the perspective exploration between the three factions is wonderful.
Panel one. You nailed it, Mike. The expression on her face is perfect. I'd like to see that high rez, no balloons. The monster has more details and fiddly bits, sure, but that face is the book cover.
Panel 3's kind of kickin' too. Seriously: nice eye. Spent some time on that "simple" image.
It's stuff like this that makes me click to the earliest archive, and go "where the hell did this art come from?"
The expressiveness, the Disney golden era-esque textures and pallet, postures and gestures; it's really coming out in the Lookouts/Daughters/Thornwatch works.
So, question I should know the answer to and don't: Is there a tag I can use to find all the comics set in this world? Everyone has been throwing all this lore around in these threads, and my memory of them is too hazy to follow.
I think Eyrewood would be the umbrella term. It's the one thing they all share. I don't know if the earlier comics where it was just called Lookouts would be tagged with it in the comic archive, though.
Once again, PipeFour beats the pants off the PA archive search. Search for "Lookouts" and it looks to me like it brings up every previous comic set in this 'verse, with the exception of the current series (not transcribed yet I suppose).

The green cloaks must be standard villager cloaks. You live in that village, you get a green cloak.
Maybe they have a cloak giving ceremony when each child reaches a certain age.
