That picture of Brad is the most brotastic what with the fronting and everything.
Jeff on the other hand is just creepy, Vinny looks goofy/whimsical, Drew is more classic bro to Brads suave wigger bro, Patrick looks far too classy despite the cheep beer, and Alex looks more like a homeless man who was given alcohol by other patrons of the bar.
Jeremy Parish, Matt Leone, Mike McWhertor, Griffin McElroy, Brian Silva, Jake Kazdal, and the mangod himself, Shane Bettenhausen, all join us to talk Deep Down, Dark Souls 2, MGSV, Vita TV, Gravity Daze...2 (?), Monster Hunter, Yakuza Isshin, Wii Sports Club, Strider, and more. Plus, we all pay our respects to the late, great Nintendo president, Hiroshi Yamauchi.
They be lovin' Dark Souls 2 like 40s of Natty Ice and the finest of hos.
So I've recently been checking out footage of Killer Instinct
That game looks pretty neat! Mainly because it looks like it plays like Street Fighter and not like old Killer Instinct
And their pay-model is extremely intriguing to me
If I were getting a One at launch I'd be all over that
It played terribly at TGS, not sure if it was their set up or the current build or what but things felt unresponsive and mushy. Which is the last thing you want in a fighting game. The chain system is either incredibly unintuitive or the arcade stick was set up wrong (which is possible). I was really, really not impressed though.
But I mean, with their pay-model no reason to not try it at launch (assuming you have an X1).
Playing earthbound again with stilts it is just astounding to me how much that game is bursting with charm from word one
And while a lot of the credit goes to the original writers/designers the localizers did a damn fine job
Every bit of dialogue feels just slightly stilted, almost like a poor translation, but it seems juuuuust in control enough that i don't think that's the case
It's just a weird, stilted world where none of the seams come together quite right
Nintendo is probably the best at minimalist writing (though agreed about the only when they want to be sentiment)
They and their localization teams can pack a lot of charm without a lot of words, which is a hell of a skill
That said I would not call Majora's Mask the best written game
It has arguably the best overall presentation in an internally developed Nintendo game, but in terms of actual words it isn't even the best written Nintendo game, much less the best written game.
Wasn't it translated by some guy who doesn't even work for them as a fan thing?
Also is Majora's Mask a well-written game? I didn't know the story was what people liked about that game
The translation of Mother 3 was a project by the fan community yes
They offered to give the rights to it to Nintendo free of charge so that they could officially release the game in America for basically no cost but Nintendo snubbed them
The fan translation project worked very hard to preserve the original Japanese int he script though and I think its fair to give Nintendo (well, shigesato itoi) the bulk of the credit
And depending on what you mean by "writing" yes the writing of majora is fangoddamntastic

Not hard mind you

Just enough that maybe he'd think a little bit more when saying stuff
Normally he's fine, but man. Every now and then.

I'm not sure we deserve it
wellllll let's be fair now
it's good when it wants to be
usually they couldn't be bothered
but when they take off their weighted training clothes and crank out a majora's mask or a wind waker or a mother 3
oof, look out

I gotta give it to mgs2
But majora and wind Waker are both probably top five for me
Shadow of the colossus and mother 3 probably round out that list
