Ever since I unlocked crates and armored cars I definately find myself driving around more in the open world than before.
How do you unlock crates?
Abusing an exploit like that seems like a good way to get banned.
I believe its a rank thing. Like I started to get messages after like rank 40? Same with armored cars.
I'm not level 40 and I've seen armored cars while playing. Still no DLC drops though. I think it depends on the level of the host or the average level of players on the server? There's times I've been in a session and Annihilators spawn like candy... and others when it's just the basic ones and nothing ever happens. I actually think that all of the random events are tied into the host or average rank.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
I started getting crates and armored cars in the low to mid 20's. I don't remember doing anything to trigger them, I just randomly got phone calls about them and have randomly gotten them since.

Hint: Get to them ASAP. Not just because other people are going to dogfight the hell out of them but even on CCS, Arms Smugglers will get there after awhile and you have to deal with 2-6 guys hiding, waiting on you to come by and pick them up.

Speaking of armored cars...finally ran into one last night while I was running with mbannick. We came out of a race and one was driving by, so I called in a merryweather chopper, jacked it, then proceeded to fly down the freeway where I created a roadblock so we could stop and pop the truck. Mbannick followed behind in a car, and we popped the back off to reveal 3 bags.
After I grabbed the bags and flew away, I tried giving half to mbannick, and both share cash options were greyed out. Is that because he wasn't in the same vehicle when we stopped the truck? Or can you not share Armored Car cash?
I do wish there were more open world events / activities. Simeon's Jobs are terrible and not at all worth it. The crate drops usually have terrible payouts for the effort (500 RP and an assault rifle I already have, hey thanks!), and Armored Cars still seem unicorn rare. Gang Attacks are at least a little bit of a challenge, but again, usually a piss-poor payoff, and not really all that interesting (certainly not a gang hideout replacement).
I think the death penalty is probably at least partially to blame. In theory, we should be interacting with other players in free roam doing more than just hunting bounties and grudge killing. But the death penalty is large enough that you start erasing HOURS of work if you get into extended firefights with other players. And most of the world events aren't remotely worth the risk if you're competing with others for them.

You mean the chopper? Eh, I look for any excuse to fly choppers in this game :bz
I collected two, and one came up as a wide green area on the map. Flare was in the middle of the area, guys were around to kill, yet no crate.
I don't see the big deal though, I get better hardware from a quick game of survival, and it lasts just as long.
There are two types of crates to be aware of though. There are normal green ones, and yeah the reward is kind of hit or miss. Then there are special crates, you'll ordinarily get a message in the open world a special crate is coming, and those have a lot more of a reward to them, massive rp, money and one I poached had a minigun in it.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Crazily enough I think I've actully gotten better at flying choppers. I don't know how it happened and I'm sure I'd still DNF any race in them, but I can fly from point A to Point B easily now.

I think I found the most poorly designed mission in GTA online. You have to grab some briefcase at the top of a large skyscraper that is under construction. The only way up that we could find was to take a ladder. Took like five minutes to get up. But if that wasn't enough, once you get up to the last set up ladders, you have to climb past an open section of buildings that has enemies in it. So they can shoot you while you're on the ladder. But you can't shoot them from the platforms above or below the ladder, as the angle prevents you. I never made it past that point, despite trying the mission 3 times. But if that's not bad enough, once you get to the top of the ladder, there's very little cover and a shit ton of enemies. And the only way to get to the building from the crane is with a parachute. Only one guy managed to make it up there. He killed most of the guys on the roof, but didn't have a parachute to make it to the building.
I'm convinced there has to be some other way to do that mission. I tried stealing a helicopter from the airport but there weren't any. Wasted a lot of time on that one.

Its a lester mission, and yeah he recommends a helicopter and the only one I could find was summoning the merryweather one and killing the pilot. Its a terrible mission with a shit payout and not very fun at all.

Pretty sure a chopper is the way to do that mission. Can you call in a Merryweather chopper in-misison?
I don't think I have the ability to do this yet. Either that or I don't know how. I tried looking up Merryweather on my phone but there was no option for that. Must not be unlocked for me yet.

You can, and the pilot will even fly you to the roof of a building if you don't kill him. But you have to basically fly to the opposite roof, snipe the enemies, and then fly over and collect the package before respawn shows up and shoots you down.
I think the payout is sub 10k so totally not worth it.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Really? Where does it spawn? I've never seen a chopper on the ground and I took the long ladder climb up only to die once and never try the mission again because why the hell should I call a chopper for this nonsense?

So thanks to my penchant for stealing cars, I pretty much have a bounty 24/7 now. It seems the moment one of my bounties ends, I jack another car, and almost without fail I get slapped with another price on my head. At least I don't have to worry about getting multiple bounties :rotate:
Does anyone know if killing the NPCs BEFORE you steal their car prevents them from putting a hit out on you? Because if so, I think I need to start doing that....it's getting a little annoying.

One thing that I do when boosting Ballers for cash is move my car in front of them and fire into the ground, away from the the car. If there's a car in back of them, the NPCs back into each other and then jump out and run away. Some of them will jump out without a car behind them too. But once I hop in the car I don't get the bounty text. I've only had 2 bounties placed on me by NPCs so far, and I've made about 90k selling cars.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
That mission is kind of easy to solo. The helipad is nearby, so get a chopper. Fly to the top of the Maze Bank building and snipe everyone on the roof. Fly down to the roof - sometimes, if you sniped the guys down on the lower level (you can see them to the left, down the wooden ramps) the deal goes south and they'll have all killed each other. In any case, kill the dudes and snag the briefcase - that spawns a chopper. Now you have a decision - run up, get into your chopper and fly to Lester's or just run off the edge and parachute down. I used to parachute down, but SUVs will hassle you AND the goddamn snipers in the chopper. I tried to shoot down the chopper, but it's a total hassle unless you're goddamn gifted with a sniper rifle. What I found worked well was to either run up to my chopper and just outrace the spawned chopper, or after killing all the dudes but BEFORE grabbing the brief case, bring your chopper down to the lower level, then grab the case and fly your ass to Lester's.
Shooting down the chopper is very satisfying though.
That's one of the few missions that really REQUIRES the chopper - there's one that Martin asks you to to kill an old rival, take a pic of the body and then return to him. He suggests parachuting in - you can also land a chopper on the roof. You can just go in guns blazing, get the pic, fight your way out and have Lester reset your wanted level and then slip back to Martin's place. For the mission where he asks you to kill a former friend turned informant in Fort Zancudo, I ride my bike to the fort, hop the fence and grab an F-18, then shoot down the Titan, immediately do an immelman turn, race up the coast and kill the DA with missles then parachute down and grab the bag and drive it back to Martin after losing my wanted level via Lester or just being sneaky.
I've never gotten a bounty from boosting a car wherein I kill the driver, that I can remember at least.

I've been driven there three times and I only have the vaguest of ideas. There's a chopper pad near a highway on- (off-?) ramp, adjacent to some water. I feel like it's kinda close to the storage unit you drop the Gauntlets off at in Story Mode?
The helicopter flies up like 20 feet, then heads back down and lands.

It seems the more expensive car owners are the ones that give you bounties, but since I've "earned" almost $300k from car sales, it happens to me all the time. I'm up to $7000 bounty per car theft.
I usually try and steal Cavalcades, Patriots, Oracles, Sentinels, Felons (if you can find them), Landstalkers, Ballers and Dubstas. Or really anything $5k or more.
People will work so hard to collect that 1k bounty too. It makes it so satisfying to kill them three or four times. I can't remember what C-64 flight sim taught me the immelman turn, whoever it was, thanks heaps!

I played this mission with two other guys. We looked all over the place and didn't find a chopper. We even went all the way to the airport and the airport was totally empty. Not even a plane.
Couple questions for you all. Where do you find that helicopter that can pick up cars. And can it pickup a tank? I managed to steal a tank from the army base but is seems like there's no way to get it out of the base.

Cargobob randomly appears at the airports. It may depend on the level of the host though.

Helicopters don't spawn at night, last I checked so that will screw you over. If you go to the pad during the day (near the marina) and there's no choppers, drive across the street and down the road then come back. I never have to do that more than once, but maybe my level means with all the choppers unlocked there's a higher chance of spawn? I've seen all chopper types there now.
That said, I have never, ever seen a chopper at the Hospital.
I've read Cargobob (the hauling chopper) spawns on the pad just inside the airport if you take the jump on the uh, left side of the terminal. (dumpster filled with debris forming a ramp)
