Really? Where does it spawn? I've never seen a chopper on the ground and I took the long ladder climb up only to die once and never try the mission again because why the hell should I call a chopper for this nonsense?
Spoiling for size:
Its there where the happy red sunshine circle is! There is 1-3 Mavericks there at any point of time and a rent-a-cop who does nothing as you zip around with a stolen chopper. Don't kill him. If you don't see any on the ground, there is one landing in a few seconds. Just listen for it.

Helicopters don't spawn at night, last I checked so that will screw you over. If you go to the pad during the day (near the marina) and there's no choppers, drive across the street and down the road then come back. I never have to do that more than once, but maybe my level means with all the choppers unlocked there's a higher chance of spawn? I've seen all chopper types there now.
That said, I have never, ever seen a chopper at the Hospital.
I've read Cargobob (the hauling chopper) spawns on the pad just inside the airport if you take the jump on the uh, left side of the terminal. (dumpster filled with debris forming a ramp)
Chopper spawns are based on level. Whether that's host level or your level, I'm not 100% certain. But I'm only getting Annihilators now, and before that it was Froggers, Cargobobs, Emergency Choppers, and Mavericks. I've seen other choppers spawn on rare occasions, but that could have very well been due to lower level people being in the area and spawning them.
And speaking of Annihilators, last night we were having Annihilator chopper battles with randoms. Except of course nothing is sadder than watching Annihilators actually try and hit each other. It's like an aerial ballet of incompetence. So can't wait for level 43 so I can finally fly Buzzards.

The spawn points here are magical I discovered the other night. I took a car from the parking lot thats connected. drove it over to the helipad 15 feet away, turned around and the same car was back in its spot, duped. We did this like 5 times in a row. The spots are set to respawn super quickly. So just drive around outside the area, every so often look at those helipads and you will eventually turn your camera and see a helicopter taking off, and then immediately landing. dont stand around waiting for one.
So this game is really weird about gating content. you cant collect a bounty until you know about them (lvl 5 killed me last night and didnt get the bounty), so I am guessing armored cars dont appear at all until EVERYONE is level x on the server? If so thats super dumb. I saw my first one last night when I started a private instance. 10k was super nice from that, and they need to lower the minimum level on those. I mean, the fighting alone it would cause to get a chance at the money would be awesome. I am guessing the same about the "crates" I keep hearing about but never see(edit, not gang fight ones).

I'm going to be so sad when Cargobobs stop spawning for me.
So what you're telling me is driving up there, seeing nothing and then blazing a trail away while mumbling curses under your breath is how you won't see a helicopter spawn there?
Got it.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
It'd be nice if Rockstar would add the ability to join other people's Closed Crew Sessions (without having to manually join another person's game who may not be in a Closed Session)* rather than having people in their own Closed Crew Sessions.

Yes, it's very, very sad. I was only ever able to pick up one moving vehicle before I leveled up too much. Grabbed a cop car that was in the middle of a pursuit, who was none too happy about having his ride liberated from the cold shackles of gravity. He was equally displeased when I returned him to earth, by way of the Pacific Ocean.
So what you're telling me is driving up there, seeing nothing and then blazing a trail away while mumbling curses under your breath is how you won't see a helicopter spawn there?
Got it.
I turned right out of the small area onto that highway to head to the airport to hope for a spawn, and BAM helicopter was taking off. it was literally 3 seconds. So I suspect even facing away and just hitting thumbstick down will trigger it to spawn if you do it long enough.
My experience in missions is that driving away and coming back - doing this until morning came - resulted in no helicopters. I drove between the two hospitals and the helipad and there were no choppers. I've done this maybe 3, 4 times. I just assumed it was a thing.
Is it possible to make a private game and then just play on your own server with yourself like captain lonelypants
because I would do that so hard
If you are in a crew, you can join a "crew session" that in theory would have you and your crew members and possibly up to 3 other crews in it, but everytime I join that its just me. There is also a closed crew session, and a private online, but the private online supposedly doesn't have all of the stuff in it?
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I've done the Merryweather disposable pilot method the problem there is the chopper will disappear if you leave it for a bit. I was using one to rob stores and came back out to find it gone.

Yea, I found that out the hard way in my first time I tried the MW hijack.
At least with a regular chopper discovery, the chopper is still there when you burst out the doors again. It will still disappear, but I find you have to be out of sight for some time, and quite a distance away.
Jumped in for a quick few shop robberies earlier this evening. Ended up getting the losing end of a 2v1 against some randoms. Fortunately NickleDL swooped in to help me out and took managed to even the k/d up a little :brofist:. Probably ended up losing over 20k on deaths before I had to log though .
Maybe one should lose less on progressive kills from the same people. I don't feel like they were camping me per se, so I don't feel my butt is particularly hurt, only my wallet! But I can imagine it really sucking if a bunch of people just decided to camp your respawns with far superior fire power or similar.

No, you need to have cash on hand. Which you can easily get by going to your phone and withdrawing some cash, but then again that's not always easy if you're getting griefed over and over.
Only thing that won't draw from your bank that i'm aware of are strippers and hookers, you can't swipe your debit card through any part of them - they're a cash only operation. I know some parts look like they may accommodate swiping of a credit/debit card, but that in fact doesn't actually work.
Call me lucky, but I've never had issues finding a chopper, from low level to now (mid 30's I think).
First spot is the one identified above (across from the marina). Honestly 9 out of 10 times there is one there.
Second stop is the hospital, approx 3-4 blocks east of Franklin's hood. 2 choppers spawn there.
Third is NOOSE headquarters on the east side of the map off the highway. Yea its fenced in but no guard will bother lifting a finger to stop you.
Fourth (ok, now I'm really desperate) is of course heading out into the desert to the many airfields.
And all without capping some MW pilot in the face (because I never had access/wanted to pay for a chopper ever).
Could I be a fiend and request you to mspaint up that map up there some, I've no idea where those things are...
Sorry this isn't my best work, too many people around for me to do it right. X marks the spots
I rarely see any choppers in Grapeseed (top marker). Always see planes there though.\
Edit: @Lt. Fragg The marker over the Hospital in Davis is in the wrong place. Or missing, but I don't think I've ever seen the Police stations in online have any choppers on them.

You can always see the tail of the chopper(s) from the street.
Seems as we're levelling up the tracks can be a lot tighter and trickier. I do try and race cleanly as a rule, but was a bit of a terror on the tarmac yesterday. In my defence (in one case at least) I was expecting to be rammed into the water barrels at the entrance to the freeway, thus pushed back against @breton-brawler (I think?). Who knew the side of the road would make such a good ramp...
@campy yeah those races were alittle crazy. the tracks narrow down, the best was the motorbike race that ended along the beach, a photo finish. as far as the bumping, its GTA not forza, or GT I expect a little combative driving, even though I try to race as clean as I can.
Finally able to get an online character to save (yay!) this weekend has made me realize how great it is to have a crew going with PA dudes. Evey mission I tried playing with random pubbies was a slog fest of trying to accomplish coop goals with your own teammates shooting out your tires, TK'ing and generally being an ass. Crew missions? Communication, laughs when things go wrong, helpful advice and generally just plain fun.

So if you lose connection while you're riding in a friendly vehicle, it seems an AI can take over your avatar. To do what exactly, I'm not sure, but it happened last night when I was flying around with @mbannick robbing liquor stores.
He disconnected while we were still in the air, and when I went to land, his body flopped out of the passenger door. I thought nothing of it, until the seemingly dead body of my recently disconnected partner in crime got up and ran away.
So I chased him for a bit, he was obviously frightened, not knowing where he was or how he got there. Finally got tired of trying to outrun him and explain things, so I punched him once and knocked not-mbannick out cold.
Which leads me to the theory that GTA:O is actually the matrix, and we are all agents inhabiting other people's bodies while we're connected. If our connection to the matrix GTA:O is severed, the real person we've been inhabiting wakes up and realizes they're not where they're supposed to be and freaks out. So be kind to your avatar, because you're apparently only borrowing it ;-)
I've totally had moments where I've logged in, and my character is in the car driving. Totally autonomous, for up to 10 seconds, or until I "assume control", to quote the Collectors.

I tried creating an alt crew , temporarily setting it as my active crew and just doing "Join crew" in the hopes I could play alone, but yeah that did not work .
