My mother's mobile printer is causing *me* grief (Oh, RESOLVED)

My mother bought a mobile printer to use in her freight truck with her laptop. It's brand new, and she saved all the packing material to put it away when they are in motion (she's been specifically instructed to not use the damn thing unless they're stopped). This morning I was walking her through setting it up. For some reason it wasn't plug n' play, so I had her install the drivers / software from the disc. Then the weirdness started.

1) It printed the test page fine.
2) But then it only wanted to repeatedly print the test page when she was trying to print one of her own documents.
3) On restarting the computer, Windows 7 did some sort of device install, I dunno if it tampered with the drivers.
4) Now the computer just isn't communicating with the printer at all.
5) We also can't figure out how to make the stupid thing power down. Pressing the button, or pressing + holding for 5 seconds isn't doing it.

Given that I'm still new to Windows 7, I have no fucking idea how to navigate the printer menus (especially since I don't have my own printer to 'emulate' the experience as I walk her through). It's an HP series printer if that helps at all.

Also at home she has a printer/scanner/fax machine separate of this.

Anyone have any ideas?

Edit - Oh, it seems to have been resolved - apparently multiple configs of her new printer were put in, so she had to set it to "HP Printer (copy)" on her printing menu. Plus, on the power button issue, not having the battery in is the only way the damn thing shuts off. Whatever.
