I'll play FFV when I can play an affordable, easily-accessible version on a platform with buttons and the GBA translation.
That seems to be pretty unlikely at this point; you should play it however you can.
There's something wrong with every available iteration. iOS: No buttons/fuck virtual buttons. PS1/PSN: Crap translation, bugs, load times. GBA: Expensive, will likely get a bootleg if I buy from eBay/Amazon Seller.
I'm comfortable waiting it out some more. I have plenty to do in the meantime.
An eShop release of FFV Advance would solve everything, but that relies on both Nintendo and Square getting their collective shit together, which seems to have a snowball's chance in hell right now.
Also it is indeed kinda the best.

From a gameplay standpoint? Yeah I think it's the best. Storywise? No way. FF isn't great literature but FF5's story is the SNES era's worst.
To be fair, IV and VI were setting benchmarks for JRPG storytelling at the time, but yeah, I don't really have a problem with this statement. V's story doesn't really hold up, but that gameplay is indeed the best.

I can't think of any metric I could use that would put 5 ahead of 4, 6, 7, 10, and 12, at the very least. Personally, I'd probably put 13, 10-2, 8, and 9 ahead of it too.

If we get lucky GBA games will come at some point to Wii U and SE will decide to release the Final Fantasy games.

I thought Psychicker was insanely OP in the original JP version, or was that something else?
It can be immune to all damage, if that counts. Edit: On that note, I don't think Catnip works with Trigger Happy anymore.
Not sure what to do with Luso. My old Marche was a somewhat slow, consistently one-shotting Ayvuir-Fighter. Kind of feel like trying something different, but meh.

My advice? Make him a Dual-Wielding Fighter/Seer.
Magick Frenzy + Fira turns your basic two-sword attack into a ranged area attack with both swords.
Or make him a Geomancy Parivir with Seer abilities. Similar principle, with a stronger Fira and an even deadlier attack for those who get into actual melee range.

I think I'll stick with one weapon for Luso. I'm likely to use those for other humes, though. Such as the one who starts with Dual Wield mastered.
Maybe Parivir with Geomancy. Or, like, some kind of Blue Mage.
I'd be more inclined to do something with Hunter if it weren't a wingless Gria. Still, there might be something fun hume-exclusive to mix it with.

If you use a Geomancy Parivir, that's even more reason to give him High Magick on top of it, for Magick Frenzy Fira.
Seeq's are slightly better than Gria's as much as I wish it was the other way around. Viking and Ranger are genuinely good.
Both races are basically Bangaa's from FFTA; great concepts, limited job options.
Yeah, in sheer numbers it's a pretty stark contrast between Gria/Seeq and everything else.
I used a Dragoon/Monk in the first. Mostly selfhealing and ranged attacks.
Luso's magic-stat isn't very prone to ending up high, is it? More convenient to focus on something physical than, say, Ultima Shot. I've no doubt it could be made to work fine, though.
Ultima-abilities have always irked me some by consistently surrounding themselves with abilities that use a different stat. Not even a couple of each, just the odd one out.
It's been awhile but don't both FFTA and FFTA2 have character stats influenced by what jobs they are in when they level up? I'm pretty sure this is the case so you can basically get everyone good at everything. It's not like FF V style games where jobs are independent of character level.

Yes, but a significant chunk of your stats are determined by the base class. That is, the class they were in when you recruited them.
Right. Which is why sometimes when you want a perfect mage for example you're better off getting some random Nu Mou that's spent 40 levels as an advanced magic job and then going through all the trouble to give him all the goodies from the other classes.
Question...this is kinda stupid but bear with me. Can you mod Steam's Final Fantasies and get achievements?
Depends on how you mod it. If you use Tifa's Bootleg, you will lose the ability to get achievements (and cloud saving). There's a few other options out there that retain them while still modding the game, but you won't have access to every mod out there.

And yeah, it is very repayable. Even if you don't do the Four Job Fiesta, which you should.

I use it to make his powerful physical attack hit at range in an area effect, and to tack on a few points of extra damage.

Might be funny to level a physical attacker and switch to Illusionist/Seer. Limits weapon-options pretty severely.
I didn't like 5 for a very, very long time. It wasn't until I gave the GBA version a solid attempt that I started to come around to it.
- The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (2017, colorized)
Well, when the PS1 version was the only other option, that's not surprising.

Amuses me that most bow-users are relatively jolly "hunters" and "rangers" whereas Viera with bows are grim, faceless "snipers" and "assassins".
2007.
Also, I hope FFXIV has more tracks than just that boss number. Pretty much all of XIV's soundtrack is delicious to listen to.

then again, Seer also works decently with Blue Mage, Blue Mage being the only Mage with decent weapons.
