[PA Comic] Monday, October 14, 2013 - Nomenclature
It also has Kathryn Janeway. Not topless though. Her acting is grand though, but that's par for the OitNB.
Wow, looking at some of these actresses goes to show how much makeup can do/undo a person's looks.
not... sure... if want?
You don't.
On a sidenote I think OitNB just broke the record for Most Titties in the First episode of a non-pornographic tv-series.
It does qualify as non-pornographic, right?

Orange is the New Black is fucking fantastic! Netflix is killing it with original content. House of Cards is just... Mmm! so good. OitNB continued that level of quality, and I am very anxious to see where the next seasons of those two shows go. Netflix also gave us back our Arrested Development, which I felt started off slow, but was fantastic by the end of the season. Hopefully we get another season of that as well.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Thankfully they drop that angle pretty much entirely after the first episode. The pilot is really bizarre compared to the rest of it.

I started watching it on a whim, and they almost lost me during that first tits-apalooza. But then it suddenly turned into some seriously good TV.
It would be a better title than "Orange is the New Black," which has always sounded to me like something somebody thought was really clever at the end of a 3am brainstorming session and then somehow never got reexamined in the cold light of day.

Well, the show is based on the book of that name.
Actually, the full title of the book is apparently "Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison." But just because something worked OK as a book title does not mean it is the best choice for the title of the TV or movie adaptation. There are completely different aesthetics.
I mean, The Social Network is based on a book entitled "The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook: A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal" so yeah.

I dunno, I kind of like the title. It says fair deal about both the series, the main character and modern culture in general. It can be interpreted in several different ways.
It's also fairly memorable. Since it taps into an established Idiom (X is the new black) you're not going to forget it. Because all you have to remember is Orange + idiom.

I work with a woman that is openly bi and thinks that Laura Prepon (Donna from That 70's show) is hot. I found this out one day while she raved about the show when I told her I had never seen it. She conveniently left out any mention of the gratuitous TnA in the show. This is a minor detail as a visually oriented creature, I need to know.
If she had smiled in the second picture...*shiver*

That doesn't sound like my Janeway at all!
Kate Mulgrew was always a fantastic actress.
The problem was that Janeway the character was shittily written.

The argument that "the title works for a book but not a show" is kind of silly. If you don't like the title for one format, you probably just don't like the title at all.
When I first heard the title and then found out what the show was about, I was like, "I don't get it." And right before I started asking friend it hit me and I became okay with it.
They frontload the tits hilariously. The first five minutes of the show are a gratuitous nipple smorgasbord and then you never see any again, which is for the good.

Just like Orgazmo. Although there it went even faster.

Okay, but more often than not, they name the movie/television show the same as the book.
I read the book. It's only tangentially related to the show, the basics are there but for obvious reasons the show is much more dramatic.
Still, I think the name is actually pretty great. I like the reference and got it immediately.
Names don't really matter that much. Peep Show is a horrible name for a show, but once you know the name you don't think about it. The Godfather is a terrible name for a mafia film, it sounds like a romantic comedy. It doesn't matter, because now it means Great Mafia Film.

Short version: This comic is an example of male gaze/misogyny.
I just keep hiding the posts because they always turn into giant internet slappy fights and I would get myself in trouble.
Honestly I think they're allowed to just like boobs.
It's weird because you see this going both ways. Think about every movie George Clooney stars in. Non-stop comments on his appearance. The topless bit wasn't even central to the comment. Laura Prepon did an amazing job in that show, and how she appears in the new show is not even a thing. It's an aside at best.
People get the weird idea that you can't:
A: Find someone attractive
B: Not mind seeing them topless
C: And still respect them as professionals
That post has a myopic focus on "topless" and completely ignores "Donna from That '70s Show." Not "that red haired chick from That '70s Show." Not "Eric's Amazon girlfriend in That '70s Show."
Finding out that she's in it made me interested in the show.
That was my take on it. Maybe he just really likes Donna. But I am not brave enough to risk the wrath of posting that opinion.
I don't like that the unwritten moral to the story is "Penny-Arcade dudes are histories greatest monsters".
They're just guys. They fucks some stuff up, (sometimes severely), but that doesn't mean they hate women.
Someone in the comments on that post nailed it: that comment came after a long chain of him pointing out all the good things in the show. Somehow, one line about the topped status of the main character proves he's a horrible sexist, despite all evidence to the contrary. I'm pretty sure most people are meant to read it as Tycho becoming interested once he finds out Laura Prepon is in it, while a small minority of professional offense-takers are meant to get riled up over it.

It took me two episodes to recognize Kate Mulgrew.
Crazy Eyes is the best.

100% serious
That being said, I don't think 'Donna's' boobs are ever fully shown. I was hoping to see them, but I don't
think it ever actually happened.
