Walp, 4th group was the charm. Took us 10 tries to pull it off, but we finally got through the changeover without using tank LB and got her down. Yeesh.
Is summoner going to continue to be a problematic choice for DPS? My girl has been rocking the dots, but she felt like she was holding the group back when it came to feathers.
Because if it's hard mode garuda you swiftcast Tri-disaster just as the feathers spawn, and hit bane to spread your dots to every damn feather. Then people can ignore them because their lease of life is short lived. (Alternatively you swiftcast tri-disaster and let your friendly neighborhood Blackmage swiftcase a Flare, of your Whitemage can use holy, and they are gone as well.)
If we're talking story then just use Ruin+bio on as many as you can, Summoner burst is kinda meh in the earlier levels but at 50 you do just fine. The key thing in either case is to time your DoTs and Bane so you can spread the DoTs to as many feathers as possible when they start out close together. Once they are spread out you can't do much aside from burst down the few you can.
Summoners have good single target burst but very low AoE burst, in most fights however if your timing is good you can get your DoTs on early enough on groups that need to die quick and the DoTs will finish them in the allotted time.
Blackmages are the kings of AoE burst though.

That was just story. She was trying to do tri-d/bane, but it never hit more than 4. We assumed it was a target limit, but could have been timing.
Bane is kind of funky, There isn't a target limit from what I have tested but it does seem to miss targets randomly, and it's incredibly strict on the 5m thing which is a very short distance (also need to factor in lag on moving targets). In Garuda I end up sitting fairly close to her, do the Tri-disaster/Bane (I've set up my DoTs before hand to make sure there is a decent timer on them before we hit this phase) then I'll also run up and do a Miasma 2 just to add a bit more.
Even if you only end up hitting 80% of the feathers it's more than enough and the rest of the DPS can burst down the rest (Or you can with Ruin+Ruin2)
Tri-disaster is the same way, I've had it nail every feather, and had it miss a couple, so I would agree it's a timing thing (it's much easier to time it with swiftcast though, so if she has that have her give that a shot. If she doesn't have it she really should put the time in to get it because it allows summoners to bring back summons mid-fight, throw down instant Shadowflares, Tri-disasters, and battle rez people instantly if things go south)
A thing to note on HM Garuda the feather spawn in two waves each time, so if you pop Tri-disaster just as you see the first feathers pop it should hit both waves.
If you watch the speed run vid I posted you can see I nail most of the feathers with this combo (We were trying to hold them in place for the Flare spam but the timing was off so mostly it was just my DoTs that nailed them although I think we did manage to get a late flare off as well)
So I'm early on in my relic quest line for BLM, but I need to do Chimera if there's folks who also need it and/or would like to help, that'd be awesome. I can make most any time work right now, during the week.
Then some stuff, AK, some kills, and then I'll need Hydra, then the primals; but I need some gearing before Titan...have already done Ifrit and Garuda (not for the items though). :rotate:
Yeah. I'm not terribly pleased they did not get my new water heater in today. I can take showers at the pool. Can't set up my computer there. I wanna shoot tonberries and level my conjuror.
Hi all. I'm a 2.0 player on Hyperion with a legacy FC. Although friendly and helpful and have a calendar of events I find I need a FC that has more regular hard mode ifrit and and garuda runs. The calendar is honored more in the breach.
I am tired of 30+ minute DF times and random groups at Revenant's Toll. I accept responsibility for focusing on summoner first at the expense of gearing my scholar or leveling a marauder.
I am part of the PA STO guild although I haven't played STO much since ARR came online.
With regard to the PA FC, are there regular calendar events? What organized efforts are made to help folks gear up via ifrit and garuda runs? WP and AK runs?
I'm thinking of transferring but before I commit to spending $18 I wanted to ask some questions.
Honestly it really depends on the time. I had to pug garuda and mostly pug ifrit. But my most common play time is either during the Times people are raiding or when there's not many people on. In the past I know they've run all sorts of stuff for people.
Ifrit or Garuda HM aren't really scheduled. But they do get run every day or so, mostly just when someone in FC chat goes "Hey, who wants to do garuda" and then we have enough people around to usualy get 8 together and go a few times.
AK/WP are similar, only done 50x more as there are always people looking to farm some tomes.
And then we have about 7 or 8 Coil groups that schedule their own things to get that done.
Right now the only events that get regularly scheduled on the calendar are for Bahamut's Coil. We do, however have a segment of our website dedicated to instance requests, such as Chimera, Hydra, Ifrit, Garuda and Titan. Occasionally we get together a Titan HM carry group and help people finish up their relics, I'm not sure how many relics we have finished in the free company, but it's got to be triple digits by now.
Well it just went a lot longer than I expected, so I was getting really distracted by my kids toward the end.
But in my defense on the last boss, there was no purple line on that second bomb I dropped right on him. :P
And I must have been lagging on demon wall the first time because I kept taking the liquify damage, when on my screen I was on top of you guys the whole time and never got touched.
Ah well, I think I've done all the dungeons now, so aside from like HM titan and chimera/hydra I know pretty much everything non-raid.
Tell the other guy to keep hitting the king. Depending on how geared the tank is, kill adds in groups of 3. If it's a paladin you can slaughter them all towards the end and have them pop Hallowed Ground.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do the adds on the King in WP.
Though this might have something to do with every time I try to figure it out on my Bard the other DPS decides to help >_<
If you have ranged DPS, the tank can just kite him and the adds can be totally ignored the entire fight.
If not, kill the adds according to how geared the tank is. Each add will do 1000 extra damage on everyones grudge. So if the tank has 5K hp, its safe to kill upto 4 of them between grudges... 5-6 if its a geared PLD or a WAR.
Fellow SCH and probably SMN too, I have a question. Was running AK with my FC last night and Eos kept pulling aggro after the initial pull. Basically tank would shield toss, and then run to grab another pack but before we knew it mobs were all up my fairy's butt. Now I didn't pay attention the first few times but when it kept happening I started to watch her behavior. She was doing nothing. Not casting a heal, or buff or anything. Whispering Dawn was not lingering on the tank or anything. This was the first time any of us have seen this happen. Anyone seeing anything similar? Did Square break Pets in the maintenance?

It happens randomly. Its more prevalent with summoner pets, but on our first few attempts doing Bahamut's Coil, whenever we would pull the boss of turn 1 he would immediately run to Arkadya, even when the tank pulled with the shield throw and arkadya didn't do anything. Every time it would be "Throw shield -> boss turns to arkadya, tank hits boss once and its back on him". Can try dismissing the fairy pet, and resummoning to see if it fixes it. Otherwise its just a buggy stuff. Doesn't happen every run, so don't worry about it. Just deal with it when its happening and move along.

I've seen Eos grab initial aggro on guys for seemingly no reason sometimes. Heck I had it happen on Garuda once. I shield toss her and before my gcd is down, bird lady is off to munch on some fairy.
It's been pretty rare in my experience, but it does happen.
Ok, so that makes me feel a little better. We dealt with it just fine. I would just drop Eos behind our tank so he didn't have to run around and pick them back up. It was just the first time I had seen that happen. I shudder to think about that happening in a PUG though. Guuhhhh
I think my favorite (/sarcasm) pet bug is if you forget to put your pet back on Heel after a primal boss, then zone back into fight the same boss again. Yeah, they "remember" their Place positioning and zoom off as soon as the wall goes down... SURPRISE, Selena's off having tea with Ifrit. Totally preventable, once you know about the bug. That was an embarrassing DF.
So I saw this in Game for twenty quid and brought it more or less blind based on the shiney screenshots.
So with this class changing stuff how does your character start off? Also any particular things I should know aside from the server?
You pick a class to start with. Once you're level 10 (and do the level 10 story quests, they're the meteor icon'd ones) you can talk to the other guilds and receive their classes. Then whenever you switch weapons you switch classes. Archer, Lancer, Conjurer are in Gridania. Gladiator, Pugilist, Thaumaturge are in Uld'ah. Arcanist and Marauder are in Limsa Lominsa.
You don't get to travel between cities easily until you get to level 15 and story quest 15, so if you are interested in multiple classes you can pick a city that has a few you want and start there so you dont' need to get to 15 to switch up.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Fair enough, I tend to enjoy rogues (though more for the mobile melee DPS not the stealth) and healers so which of the two cities would be better for that to start?
Conjurer is the starting healer, Arcanist can become a healer at 30 when they transition from class to jobs. I'd suggest starting in Gridania for lancer if you want to start as melee dps, with Conjurer right there. You'll get to 15 super quick if you just focus on one character either way, do your story quest to unlock the airship and you can pick up every class. Lancers are less positional focused melee fighters than pugilists, but pugilists have a more boring time solo since all their attacks gain bonuses based on position and if you're not grouped you'll never see the back/side of an enemy.

What do you want to start with, DPS or Heals. If Heals start Gridania for Conjurer, they become White Mage eventually. The other healing class is Scholar (which is waaaaaaay more fun :P) but you have to take Arcanist to 30 which is a magic DPS class. If you want DPS and want something mele you can do Pugilist (Uld'ah) or Dragoon (also Gridania).

Oh, is that why that happens? Wondered why Eos decided to pull Ifrit that one time.
I've been trying to find a resource for spending my tomes, right now I have the DL belt and Artemis Bow, should I just continue until I have full DL gear and worry about Myth later?
Okay, I'm probably going to DF Stone Vigil in the next day or two (when I can get more than ten uninterrupted minutes). I'm hearing that it's bitch for WARs, largely because of the roaming trash Aevis that hit HARD. The videos I watched of the boss fights made them seem fairly manageable. How much of a nightmare should I expect? I've tried to make sure my gear is as good as I can craft/buy/find. Outside of being diligent on defensive buffs and keeping the Infuriated buff up, what else should I be aware of?
The Myth pants are really really good, so good that I skipped DL pants entirely and saved for Myth pants. I'd recommend prioritizing Myth pants over AF+1 Bow if you don't already have the shiny bow. For now, you'll want to get the full set of DL and keep banking Myth tomes making sure you hit the cap of 300 every week. If you're wearing Toxotes gear in all slots prioritize DL rings, neck, belt, and bracers and then the rest of the armor.

Just go in and have fun. Pull stuff back a ways so patrols don't get close. Nothing in the pre-50 dungeons require extra gearing or planning.

And yeah, kind of embarrassing.
Yep! Resummoning makes them "forget" their last position, as does putting them on back on Heel. Which I do 99.9999% of the time, just that one time...
There's also a glitch where pets decide to sprint off on adventures for no apparent reason, Haukke Manor was good for that. If you set them to Steady then Obey it seems to fix that for the most part.
Well I should actually be able to play here before too long since he's almost finished installing my water heater. I'll queue with you if you want. The trash packs there Do hit hard So if possible you may want someone to sleep. It's just a couple levels too low for bards to help with rain of death debuff. Not sure if any other classes have similar at that level. The bosses are basically all about avoiding mechanics.
