Cleric Stance is immensely useful for a Scholar if you want to DPS at all. It's not so much of a concern at lower levels when your MND and INT stats are similar, but even then it's still a 10% DPS boost straight up. It also does not affect the heals from your fairy minion. It would be silly to get Raise as a Scholar, because at 22 ACN you get Resurrection, which is the same thing except it is castable in combat without a trait. Protect is good to have for 4 man groups where you won't have a WHM around to cast the Proshell version (and you can't be guaranteed to have a Paladin as your tank). Stoneskin is alright, it can be useful pre-pull to give your tank a little bit more time to build threat before you have to heal anybody, but it's very mana inefficient (especially for Scholars) and is a long cast time so I wouldn't use it during combat very often.

I would very much recommend leveling THM to 26 so you have access to Thunder, Surecast (situationally useful) and Swiftcast (best cross-class caster skill in my opinion). Being able to instant cast Resurrection or your fairy minion (or a big heal if necessary) is amazing.

I already have THM/BLM at 50, so that's not a big deal. I was just deciding if I wanted to play CNJ/WHM next or ACN/SCH/SMN, and figured I might just go with SCH as a focus on ACN, but earlier today I was thinking maybe I should do WHM first either way. I have WHM and ACN both at 20 (21?) so it's kinda even stephen from this point on.

It's hard to even recommend one over the other, they're both fantastic classes. You do want both to 34 at least, Eye for an Eye is the bee's knees, and Stoneskin is definitely helpful. (And Virus which you already have) Do you prefer a more traditional, reactive healer with amazing throughput, or proactive absorb based class with a quirky but lovable fairy friend? You can't go wrong either way!

One bonus to leveling up acn first is that smn will share a gear set with your blm. So then you can swap between the two depending on your feelings for the day.

Either I keep seeing hte 'can't mouseover models' thing from different people, or it was Jakkard in game and out, but anyway...I can say with 100% certainty that I can mouseover models and heal people. Not nameplates, models.

My spammable/on-press target click macro " /target <mo> " would be much less useful if mouseover didn't work on models.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD EVERY HEALER SHOULD HAVE SWIFTCAST. (This is just a general PSA) I can't understand why any healer that's spent significant time at 50 doesn't grab this, I was DROOLING as soon as I realized I could have it and it worked on ANY spell and it's only a 60sec cooldown. Are you kidding me? Most often used on Shadow Flare, way too long of a cast time...

Eh. To be honest as a SCH I didn't find a need for Swiftcast all the way through Titan HM. I have it now, but it is more a quality of life thing for dealing with bad players (quick raise, insta heals aside from Lustrate).

Also pulling off a cool battle raise isn't as fun with Swiftcast!

(Everyone should swiftcast to make things easier).

XIV ARR has surpassed 1.5 million registered users since the relaunch.

    Good.

If any MMO deserves acclaim and players, it's this one.

Time well tell what that means for long term prospects (As the article states, Old Republic was touting similar numbers, and we know how that turned out), but when you have a game this good on your hands, even people checking it out for the lulz are gonna walk away impressed.

Plus, they made the right decision with vet rewards, giving you them when you pay; I'm sure that got a few people (like me) who happily dropped a few months sub time without a second thought.

Square may be a lot of things given their track record. But one thing they have been able to do throughout the years is release decent content in FFXI. And given this game's base we should be able to expect that in spades.

I've said it in my experience, dunno about others. Like I can highlight a monter and won't be able to use any actions. It may just be for NPC chars. I've never paid attention to it on PCs because I always heal by party frames or target of target.

I'll check when I get home to see if maybe that its just NPCs that can not be affected but I know I"ve seen it happen with my sleep macro so i assumed it was probable for alot of other things in that instance. If you have no problem mousing over people, then it could just NPCs not affected.

The only real problem I see is that the first patch feels late (even though its really not), and that the patch schedule in general is probably going to be too slow for me. There's just so many games coming out that are good, and eventually I will just stop coming back after taking a break for other games.

I've been playing FF14 real casual to try to keep it going because I don't want to burn out and be done with it. But if I go any slower I'll end up quitting for another reason. I'm lvl 50 and have been for a long time. I haven't even done Ifrit HM yet. I've got 1/2 Darklight and haven't been able to get through AK once. Thanks to the WP change I finally can get myth stones. I feel the need to conquer the existing content or quit now, crafting is a huge waste of time (even though I'm doing it). Leveling other classes stalls hard after about lvl 15. Patches breathe new life into these games and we need it soon.

Not bad at all, I made most of what I spent back by selling +CP jewelry along the way. I could make back the cost of a stack of silver or 500 Shards with 2 bracelets. I'm on a low(er) pop server though, so there's not a flood of crafters. (But materials are quite expensive compared to when I was on Cactuar)

With leves (Triple turn in Leve quests) it was pretty quick too, I did it in two evenings + ~30 leves. Little fuzzy on details, but just looking at the Crafting Log It went something like:

1-20: Make one of everything plus a zillion Malachite for level 30 leves, sell Brass Ring/Wristlets of Crafting
20's: So many Silver Ingots, Brass Ring Leves and some Silver Magnifier Leves, sold Silver Wristlets of crafting
30's: Peridot for 40 Leves, many Malachite Earring leves. Mithril ingots, sold Mithril Wristlets of Crafting
40's: Peridot earring leves for the first few levels, then mass converting gems and Electrum for the high 40's jewelry. Sold Red Coral earrings

That was more or less it, outside of the GSM quest items.

    Auto hide cursor?

My mouse cursor is only visible when I'm moving it.

It looks super glitchy (kind of flickering as I move it then disappearing completely once I stop) but I asked about it in the thread weeks ago and no one mentioned anything about it being out of the ordinary it so I assumed it must be working as intended.

But if you're telling me that I shouldn't have to be playing find the mouse cursor every time I want to click on something... holy shit would that be so nice.

    *edit*
Just did a google and found a 17 page thread on the official forums. Apparently it's a known issue and should hopefully be fixed in 2.1.

Tell the other guy to keep hitting the king. Depending on how geared the tank is, kill adds in groups of 3. If it's a paladin you can slaughter them all towards the end and have them pop Hallowed Ground.

Well that was the plan, my tank buddy decided it was time for me to actually learn how to handle them and let the group know ahead of time that I'd be killing the adds. The BLM decided they weren't dying fast enough though and so of course we ended up with a dead tank. We just let him handle them after that and I merrily burned down the King. Every other time we were in WP the other RDPS called handling them which I'm fairly ok since I'm a lazy slacking bastard :P

I mean it doesn't sound like it's terribly hard it's just the mindset of until I've done it successfully a few times I don't actually know what I'm doing for that fight yet.

Okay, so for healing it doesn't always target the npc when I mouseover, not sure why but it either casts or sometimes I get invalid target.

For things like sleep, i get invalid target on the mob. But if I just do a mark it works fine.

Stone Vigil is one of the larger mechanics test dungeons. It's a good chunk of fun.

One tip on harder trash pulls depending on your party makeup. If you have a Bard in the group and your group's tank or healer isn't up to snuff for the two-three dragon pulls, a Bard can kite and solo one of the dragons easily and then come back and help the rest of the party with the remaining enemies.

CC also works well in that dungeon.

Man, I am so excited to run another 5 sets of WP/AK this week...

At least it's really easy, but man the endgame is a little grindy, as I've previously lamented. I mean, it's endgame progression, I get that it's going to be grindy, I just want for a touch more variety. I cannot fucking wait for the crystal tower to drop, if only to have something slightly different to grind through.

They will add more stuff to the end game but I don't think they forsaw that many of the user base already doing the endgame stuff currently. I've seen some upset that endgame runs and only been out really for 1 month (not including beta) are making it boring. Which I can see to a point but this is not 2006 anymore. Players learn what makes for fast progression and gets to things quicker than ever.

That's my concern is that the player base will start dropping because ololobored. #grounditall

Lvl 10 you can unlock Guildhests which are group content, but the dungeons at at lvl 15.

Also everything is pretty much tied to the Story or your Class quest, so if you haven't unlocked something yet, just keep doing both of those and you will.

They are story dungeons. The idea is that they did NOT want people to run them like they do WP and AK which is why they made the changes they did to create an incentive to run AK and WP instead.

Praetorium and CM are made to be run once to experience the story and they were running into a lot of issues when people would speed run them because it disrupted the story for people who were looking to run it for the first time. you need to get 8 people together to do it so groups often used the Duty finder to fill in missing spots, which forced a clash between the speed runners and the people just trying to progress.

With the system now you remove the speed runners from the story dungeons, people can progress without being harassed, and the speed runners can run AK and WP instead which have very little cutscenes and only require a group of 4.

In short you don't want them to create a reason to run Praetorium and CM again, so you most likely will never see gear drops or much of anything out of those. They are indeed cool dungeons though and fun to run, but SE successfully alleviated what was becoming a very big issue that I would wager they aren't eager to recreate.

I'm pretty sure they did not want people running WP and AK like they do, though.

@That Dude with Herpes is right. CM and Praetorium are easily the two most enjoyable dungeons in this game. Which makes it a shame that they lack replayability.

I for one LOVE story stuff in this game, so if anyone ever needs a tank who's not going to skip cutscenes, I'm your man.
