Was playing with a friend tonight, and we decided to have a competition doing pistols only. It was a lot of fun, and I think I may do this for awhile. I wasn't doing to bad, and I would think if I started doing decent with just my pistol, when I switched back to a real weapon I'd have to be better right?
The gameplay where people chose whether to try and outshoot someone or close distance? Because that choice doesn't exist any more due to front knifing being suicidal. It basically removes the knife as a weapon and turns it into a humiliation tool only. Which is fine I guess, I just quite liked those last ditch moments in BC2.
Good, melee being a "I Win" button inside of several meters is just silly. Why they left in one hit melee kills and nerfed grenade launchers is still a head scratcher to me.
I fondly remember the shenanigans in BC2 where the melee button would lock you on the enemy and launch you several feet horizontally for the sweet knify kills. Fighting indoors was always about who reached for the melee button the fastest. Aah, the rage tears that flooded the servers during those days, delicious

It still kinda does this from behind. You lunge forward if you're aiming at their back to start the animation. It's just not as ridiculous as it was in BC2.
That thing was not only equal to BC2 but also had the advantage of netcode that's based around 'if you do it on your screen it happens'. Combine this with the fact that late in the life of the game most servers had pretty bad ping and you could get knifed from 10M away effortlessly.

God I miss that game.
I had the absolutely most amazing knife run in the MAG beta, playing as Raven on their home map. I had the motion sensor when pretty much no one had it or knew about it, and you could hide under the leaves in the jungle. It was totally predator, I think I got 8 guys in one flank once.
What exactly is the point of the RPG over the stock missile launcher for engineers? it does like, 4 more damage than the stock but isn't guided... that doesn't seem like a great trade off to me...
Edit: Also servers without a team-balance/auto-balance feature are close to hitler.
The RPG is better than the SRAW in certain situations, for one you don't need to stay in line of sight of the tank/ifv/whatever after you fire an RPG and you can definitely get off more RPGs in the same amount of time.
I'd say anything closer than 50m the RPG is better.
Good to know, although i could've sworn i nailed a LAV in the side/ass on different occasions and still only got 24/27 or so damage... i probably misread it or something.

I think the BF3 way of allowing you to kill tanks in 2 shots if you hit them between the tracks was pratty fair. It rewarded skill and taking the risk of jumping out in front of the tank.
In BF4 I can appreciate that tanks are supposed to be harder to get rid of, but in combination with the much more open map design it just makes infantry vs armor less fun.
Although, seeing tanks sneaking up on people and shooting them in the ass since they are ninja-silent on Lancang and Golmund always looks hilarious .
The big issue with vehicles IMO is just how fast they spawn. On most servers you can kill a tank and it'll be re-spawned by the time the player in it is ready to spawn. So they're hard to get rid of and then they're back almost immediately.

I don't agree, I think infantry has gotten way stronger versus air and ground because of all the new shiney rocket launchers they have available. Stingers and SRAWs are really, really good.
Edit on vehicle spawns: That's only on fastspawn servers, otherwise they have to wait like a minute. I don't play on fastspawn servers so I don't really have the same problem, maybe there's more of them in NA?
Official DICE servers on console seem to have really fast vehicle spawn compared to BF3. It's nice if you want to stay in that tank you keep getting shot out of but sucks for the reasons others have listed.
So this is probably not news to people because I've heard it suggested before, but I never took it to heart, so I'll say it again:
I went on the test range yesterday to screw around with helicopters a bit and it turns out using the keyboard (WASD + arrow keys) to fly is like, a really good idea. I instantly turned into an amazing pilot. I could do stuff in the Little Bird that was fairly difficult to pull off either with my mouse or with a joystick. So, yes, try that if you've been having chopper issues.
I can just about move a heli about but can't really aim much without crashing and going anywhere near any conflict is an invitation to get stingered to death.
Jets just feel impossible to turn and the size of the maps means you just do a bunch of circles.

Fighting indoors for me in BC2 was about busting into a building, heaving grenades at the wall beside the stairwell, bum-rushing a room with the 40mm shotgun (one giant clanging tungsten shitfest), then switching to primary weapon and mowing down everything in sight. Only if I ever ran out of ammo ie; didn't currently have a mag in anything would I knife someone. And it was bloody nice to watch you just punch that knife through some bastard's cranium, when it actually decided to detect the hit. Also nothing will ever beat the god damn 870 in BC2. Never have I heard anything so metallically meaty.
Yeah, I loved how the knife in BC2 was always placing it right on someone's head and the loud THUCK that came with it. I don't like how it's silent in BF4, I know it's more realistic but sometimes I want some some hollywood effects for that.

I'm a console guy, but the chopper is very easy to pilot and maneuver with a 360 controller. I know you PC guys have different control set ups, but the trick for the console at least is veteran buttons. Some people also prefer southpaw sticks.
One thing that is probably similar, is the default controls in BF4 suck. When you switch to veteran controls the triggers are your throttle controls, which makes all the difference in flying the chopper.
Now if only I could figure out how people do these fast turns, sweeps, etc... in the jets. I have to fly out of the combat zone to turn around most the time. The only thing that works better than that is flying straight up, and upside down, to go back the other way lol.
I'm not a good jet pilot by any means, but I do know how to turn those bastards fast (usually right into a mountain or some such). Throttle down for your turns and you will get it to turn sharper. Just don't throttle down at high altitude and point your nose up, you'll go to 3 mph and die a horrible AA death.
I've been seeing some unbelievable jet turns recently - it started a few days ago, I believe. Some pilots have figured out how to flip a jet end for end within the span of its own body length, like the start of a Lomcevak tumble in an aerobatic routine. Not sure if it's got something to do with control setups or what, but it's fucking impossible to fly against these guys unless you can do it too, which I can't. Oh well.

Hmmm, that could help. For some reason in my mind I usually throttled up. Maybe I'll fly around being useless for awhile today trying to figrue it out.
Dawnbreaker crashes every single time i play that map. May as well quit out when it comes up
I've been crashing on a conquest map it seems. I wonder if this is the one. I know I haven't been able to play Operation Locker in awhile because of this. (360) my friend was crashing on the same map as well.
So, after screwing around doing pistols only, shotguns, and leveling the LMG's on support (I've maxed assault, and even got the ace 23 specific battle pack) I was messing around with recon with a real weapon, a carbine. I really like the SG. Coming from pistos/LMG's, It felt so accurate with so little recoil. I was killing people left and right, and may have had my best round ever going 21-14 in a match.
I also figured out the secret to points. Poke balls, and the stable motion sensor. The 2 motion sensors give a lot of free points. Then you unlock the Mobile recon vehicle. I was just getting ribbon after ribbon after that (playing domination). I'm not sure how many spot assists you need for a ribbon, but it's not uncommon to spot a group of 5 in any one spot. And on most domination maps, it's pretty easy to spot their entire team, and watch for anyone running to your location. It helps the team, but man do the points start getting racked up. I got a medal from that round alone I think pretty much. I posted it to my battle log, I wonder if I can see how many spots I got total.
Shows 5 ribbons. I wasn't using it the whole round either, as I unlocked it mid match I believe.

The MAV is also a motion sensor! So sometimes you won't even need to spot for your teammates to get minimap updates.
You need to be actively controlling it for the motion sensor part though, unlike in BF3 where you could just leave it to do its thing.
Seems like a new server patch is rolling out now with the goal to increase stability. Since this is the fifth or sixth I'm not too getting giddy with anticipation.

I read that... doesn't that make the MAV pretty 'meh' now? i mean, its huge compared to the TUGS so easily visible, alot harder to hide it... it gains 10m of 'range' but is that enough to make up for its omg HUEG? i guess you can also fly it around but they usually got spotted/blown up in pretty quick order most of the time in BF3 when you did that...
So, anyone else have near infinite exp boosters like I do? I have around 24, sadly mostly 25-50, and there's no way I'll get through even 5 of those without more being unlocked.
I'd kill to be able to combine x8 25% into a 200%.

I came to the pistol only server for unlocks, but I stayed for the fuck-ton of experience I get from 1000-ticket domination maps.
Fuck I think I had a 56k round the other night; it was with a 50% boost but shit that's fun. I have just a couple more unlocks to complete and I get back "back" to the "game proper."

Seriously I had an easier time getting the defib kill for the challenge over the pistol kill.
