So if I'm building a competitive team, what sort of type build do I want to look at? Is there a standard good idea? Are there like, tanks/dps/healer sort of roles? I'm interested but know very very little.
Oh jeez. I totally just almost got myself swept by a Gyarados. I only survived by hitting it with Toxic and then substitute-spamming with Greninja until it lost a turn to Confusion. Apparently I'm like five levels below the curve all of a sudden. Looks like I'm going to have to take this dungeon more seriously than I had originally planned.

Is there any kind of messaging system in X&Y for friends? I mean, I suppose I'm trying to apply Animal Crossing standards into Pokemon, but it would make sense.
People will share FCs with people, and not always have ways of communication outside of the game, so wouldn't it be logical to allow in-game messaging if you need somebody's help with something like trading or battling? Then again, I have two badges and am 30+ hours into the game. I have a weird compulsion to talk to everybody, everywhere.
I'm also disappointed that I have found nothing in any of the trash cans. If only the real world had such an amazing waste management system where nobody ever had to even have a single tissue in the bin.
Though, I do believe being 30+ hours in, that I've gotten every wild pokemon (I hope) so far.

No, from what I hear mega evolution is a special priority that always happens and is not interruptable.
In fact I believe I have seen the text go something like this:
Greninja's Quick Claw allows it to go first!
Sporky's Venusaur is reacting to the Mega Ring!
Sporky's Venusaur has evolved into Mega Venusaur!
Greninja uses Bounce!
etc.

Bounce isn't the important bit, it's that even if the opposing pokemon goes first, the mega evolution happens first.
I don't think it would matter much if you were forced to switch out. I guess the main thing would be, if your pokemon didn't get to mega evolve, you could choose to have a different one do it instead, I guess (since you only get one mega evolve per battle). But I still think the evolution would happen first.
And judging by the balloons people have said give them trouble, you may overestimate charged shots. They are only worth three regular medium shots. (I got super-weak shots sometimes, so my working guess is that my regular tap is longer than what counts as a tap, or whatever?)
You get points faster most of the time by just breaking the white goals and getting on with the red goals, anyhow. And don't fully charge for the red goal. Just spam it. Maybe charging gets a lot more efficient if you have high EVs for Def and Sp. Def. I just had Sp. Atk, so I wouldn't know.
The hardest bot for me may be Probopass, because when I end up at the wrong angle, some goals are so high up that they're hard to even aim at. So I stayed as still as possible.
Bulbasaur is amazing at super training. Fully automatic is good enough, but that changes the charge shot.
See, you normally get one hit with those. But if you get a volley going immediately after a charge, you can get the whole batch at enhanced damage. 1,000 damage at a time type stuff.

Yes. For all intents and purposes the pokemon has evolved like it would normally evolve, irreversible etc., but just until the end of battle.
Snagged a female Quilladin off wonder trade, a catch from someone's friend zone safari from the looks of things. I promptly bred it with my own Chestnaught, threw the offspring on GTS for a ditto, and am now starting to breed further GTS fodder.

I gotta say, that was one of the least challenging Champion fights I've seen. Hawlucha took out 5 of 6 by himself, with only one use of Hone Claws to power himself up. I recall losing to Iris like 3 times before finally prevailing.

Malamar's only real gimmick is that it gets Contrary and Superpower. As a straight psychic type it's quite unimpressive.
And Gardevoir is a beast in-game. There's very little that can seriously threaten one, and the few things that do (like things that spam poison or steel attacks) are generally not good against anything except fairies. Dark attacks are by far the most dangerous things for most psychics, since everyone and their dog gets Bite or something, but Gardevoir doesn't really care at all (although I guess Malamar doesn't either). 80 base speed means she's probably still going to be kind of meh competitively, but high-speed fairies aren't really a thing yet.
I've got about a box and a half of timid Raltses if you want one. Your choice of Trace or Synchronize.

Pixilate is... lacking, but that's more a lack of moves to use it on than anything. Hyper beam is the only real option.
Spending your one megastone on a sweeper that can't outspeed base 100s is kind of...not impressive at all. Mega Gengar has what, like 170-something special attack and 130 speed? I doubt Mega Gardevoir will see much use unless a ton of other megas are banned. Which they probably will be, but still.
