Personally, I prefer the bolder colors on the ends, but that's just my preference. I don't have a preference either way on separated or smushed. Both look good but I do think the separated version looks more professional.
I think the best solution to that is to have two version, one that is separated for large resolutions (since the white space won't be lost), and a version without for smaller resolutions where finer details are lost.
EDIT: To be clear, that's a .png export of the .svg vector original, which has no jaggies whatsoever.
EDIT2: Also, this vector shit is pretty cool.
What size are you doing the base vector at? If you create it super huge and then export to a lower resolution, if the program is worth a damn it should anti-alias the edges for you on export.

I started at 800ishx500ish pixels.
I might need to go ... bigger.

EDIT: I'm using the freeware program linked by @Amnesiasoft on the previous page; it does a really clean export when I just export the bitmap, but it gets a little muddy when I make a smaller version.

By smaller, you aren't manually scaling it right? Just setting the export dimensions when saving?
Yeah, I'm just saying to export it at 175 pixels. Below are the original version and a version I just scaled up and then exported at the same size (175 pixels width).
EDIT:
By "scaled up," I mean I made the .svg natively ~2600x~1500 pix, and then exported at 175 pixels wide.

Yeah, trying to recreate it in the Illustrator, it may just be the angle doesn't play well. Those versions definitely look smoother than the original though. Probably not really a big deal.
One thing to keep in mind is that the "unlimited scalability" promise of vector graphics is significantly overblown. It actually requires a bit of work to make that promise a reality.
As an example, say you have your nice sharp 2 pixel wide line in your 64x64 image. Now you downscale it to 48x48. Your line is now 1.5 pixels wide. You can't have a 1.5 pixel wide line. It becomes a muddy mess. You scale it down to 32x32 though, and it's a nice 1 pixel wide. No muddy mess! Except wait, you move that original scale line over by half a pixel (which you can do since vector graphics don't have an actual pixel grid). Now it's a muddy mess at 100%, 75%, and 50%! Even though you don't HAVE a pixel grid, you should still work on a pixel grid (realistically, probably at the lowest resolution you intend to export at), and then try to avoid doing non-integral scales upward. Stick to only 200%, 300%, 400%...
Sorry if I'm making this a little more complicated than you want :P

Pretty sure they'll stay with just 2 fighters. Why would they go with more than that; it is only a corvette after all. They're a patrol craft really, not a major war ship.

Looking at the silhouettes, there just isn't enough volume for more than 2. I hope that if the Bengal carries 72 to 90 like a modern US super carrier then the pocket carries 24 to 30. Anything smaller should carry 4 tops, IMO.
Edit: I mean 4 tops rather than a amount proportional to their size relative to the pocket carrier due to internal volume being allocated to something other than hangar space. Should have a carrier type ship to carry more than minimal small craft, I think.

Or, I would hope a variable amount based on the size of the strike-craft. Two Hornets? Okay, yeah, I can see that two of those would be the top...but two M50s? That seems a little daft, doesn't it? I mean, considering that the Constellation holds a P-52 Merlin...and that's a teeny bit bigger than the M50.

It may be based on the number of berths the ship has, not necessarily the size of the fighters. So, it may have two stations fighters can be docked at that can take anything jn size from an M50 to a Hornet.

Yeah, on the Idris they appear to park the small craft on the right-of-way for takeoff and landing. In most cases that is not considered a good idea.

Sounds more like fighter ferrying than like carriering.
From what they've shown before and I recall seeing, the two fighters only fit at the two ends of that bay, not all the way through. They don't pull through; pull in back out.
Notice the hornet at the front and the Aurora at the back. Maybe they do go all the way through, since they both face forward. Stick any more ships in there however and retractable stairs mean nothing as they wouldn't be able to drop down to access the bay. :P

Glad it's subtle yet clear.
It's not there yet, but initial results are promising. Exporting at 2 sizes (75ish pixels and 150 pixels):

From this size ratio, I'd say you can fit at least 3 hornets...

That's because it's not a carrier of any sort. It's a corvette. Corvettes are patrol craft/extra-light strike craft.
