I don't understand why they had to sex up the host of the next great starship, so odd and unnecessary
Dude that's Sandi Gardiner, she works for CIG and has a long working history with Chris Roberts. She does a lot of stuff, like setting up events and finding companies to make the shirts and mouse pads. She also has a Cutlass package and plans on playing the game when it's out. For shame Hardtarget!
I don't understand why they had to sex up the host of the next great starship, so odd and unnecessary
What do you mean? She's their head of marketing. Are you saying there's something wrong with the way she dresses?
Yeah I mean, odds are, she was the one that picked out her outfit and makeup. Which means she sexed herself up. So...yeah. I think it's OK in this case.

Yeah, and not just that... I think it's important we realize that it's none of our business how anyone dresses. No one complains about how the men dress - why do we think it's any of our business how a woman is dressed? Male viewers have no right or reason to police how a woman dresses, whether on or off-screen. If she decides to dress sexy, good for her! If she decides not to, good for her! What entitles us to make any kind of judgments about it?
Exciting homework project: mutate into a pretty lady, then get filmed for a video that's going to be shown to people but instead of dressing up, make sure you look like a schlub. Wait 10 minutes. Start reading the hate mail from men who are infuriated that you would refuse to make yourself gorgeous for them. Repeat until you decide to just make yourself pretty any time you're going to be on film. The downside, of course, is that now that you dress up, you'll also get complaints from people who are mad that you sexed yourself up, but whatever, welcome to the world of being a woman on the Internet.
Okay, okay... let's tone down the rhetoric here guys. If you've watched more than a couple of the various Star Citizen videos it's pretty clear that they are going for something more professional and broadcast quality with this series; Chris Roberts is in a business suit for crying out loud. Nor is there anything overly sexy about Sandi's dress, it's nothing I would be surprised to see the host of a similar broadcast to be wearing. Yes, it's red and black, so it stands out, but Sandi hasn't struck me as being meek and mild-mannered either.

Considering the crowd she works with (career nerds) and the position she has with CIG (basically getting them to look organized and great instead of putting out the cringe-worthy dev interviews so many other devs do), I can pretty much guarantee that however she decides to looks is entirely because she decides it is appropriate and reasonable.
If anything, she probably has a say in what the dudes wear so they don't look like complete slobs in a more professional vid like that weapon segment is going for.

That shiny gold shirt had to be a protest statement, right?
Gardiner looked totally out of sorts in that entire exchange, though, which doesn't bode well for how she's doing keeping the raving hordes in line.
Fortunately the art team seems to be on the same page with each other.

That was a pretty good first attempt at a game show / competition video for Cloud Imperium. Editing was a little on the rough side, and it could definitely benefit from having another camera so we're not looking at the same angle the entire show.
I thought the 3 unanimous entries were well deserved. Especially the Cryo and Skyguard guns, I have a feeling those guys will go far in this competition.
Pretty non-plussed by the entries that were cut, hopefully the later groupings have more quality contestants.
I'd say my only complaint about Sandi is that she comes off as stiff and forced. It really shows at the beginning when she's asking Chris or other developers questions to introduce them that you know she already knows the answer. When she goes off her rehearsed script, though, then she seems much more human and relaxed
I made it like, 5 or 8 minutes into it before giving up. I just don't like this sort of format of show. I can't watch Strip Search or anything else like this - it just all feels too forced and silly and honestly I'm not a huge fan of TV as a medium anyways. Just write out an article or something and let me read it.

It becomes more organic and less forced when they start criticizing the different entries. Just skip to the sexy bits is my advice.

I agree, the beginning does feel more than a little forced, but the actual competition bits are pretty good. It's still very much one of those shows though.
I'm interested to see what they do with it after the weapon design, whether they go straight into designing the whole ship, or some other section, like the cockpit.

I guess i'm the only one thinking they are going alittle over-board with weapons? things that you are rarely going to even notice, especially in the middle of an actual fight? i mean, its like adding lag for the sake of adding lag...

Well, for the purposes of this competition, they used the proposed weapon as a way to test potential space ship designers. The logic goes if they can design a weapon system, one with an interesting look, detailed animations and get it running in-engine, they should be able to take those skills and apply it to a whole ship. It also gives the team an idea of what each contestant's design aesthetic is, and whether it will fit within the greater Star Citizen design language.
As for the performance issues, I'm sure there will be plenty of Level of Detail scaling and simplifying of assets at longer ranges, especially for ships that are not your own. The eye candy is mainly there to look pretty in stores and in your hangar bay, and when you're really close to other spacecraft.

holy Christ you guys, what the fuck.
Whether I'm right or wrong my off the cuff interpretation was that they dressed her up like that (in a short dress that with a hole in the midriff) to get more view from males on youtube, I don't think we have to turn this into some sort of insane white knighting for female rights as that was not at all what I was going for.
Youtube is a wretched hive of scum and villainy, look at the thumbnail of half the videos on there + comments, it can't be shocking that my first reaction was "whoa, I can't believe they are falling into this trap".

Oh, Youtube never ceases to cleave to my negative opinion of it, except in a few very quiet corners where people are probably way too baked to realize being dicks is a possibility.

Fair enough, i somehow completely missed that those weapons where more a test for ship designers. Makes alot more sense, i'm just worried about Chris talking about pushing the absolute limits of computers for the simple sake of it... aslong as it all scales down well, i guess its just wait and see.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's not "white knighting" when people are just pointing out that the chick in question frequently dresses better than the jeans-and-shirt nerds she is generally seen keeping on-track. Neither is it white knighting to be irritated that you were accusing CIG of using what's-her-name to "sex up" anything, both in terms of how that's a pretty groundless accusation against CIG and actually directly insulting of somebody performing their actual role in the company as a PR person, simply because they have flashier clothes than a bunch of nerds.
The fact that the Youtube comments have a lot of scummy remarks just means that (surprise!) the internet is full of a bunch of scummy people, which is hardly enough to (however unintentionally) justify insulting a company and an individual.

They could probably scale the detail on those weapons waaaaay down and they would still look great unless they were hanging right over your head all the time and turned the detail down to rock-bottom. Whether or not the weapons will look as good as they did in that video at all times is sort of irrelevant when you consider that it'll be pretty unlikely you'll be both close enough and moving slow enough to actually the weapon being fancy on somebody else's ship.

There ain't nothing wrong with anyone, woman or man, dressing up. End of conversation as far as I'm concerned.
So back onto the subject of the new jump point. The Scythe is getting a visual update like what they did with the Hornet and I gotta say that I'm super jelly of @TOGSolid right now. Almost jelly enough to shank a dude and take his shit, almost. Anyway, the thing looks really good and has so much detail worked into it. I think getting one will be a priority come launch.
I'll work on the Manifesto and Charter this weekend as well. Don't expect them to be as exciting as the history, but I'll be sure to slip in as many subtle references as i can... and I'm sure you guys will come up with more once i post them here.
So, I'm apologizing right now because this isn't happening this weekend. Sorry. My brain isn't in a good place right now. Sorry.
so...I'm still wrestling with when I should upgrade my video card. I'm still running a gtx 570 and sure, that's ok for now, but the hangar module is pretty choppy even on low and 1024x768. I know that nothing is optimized, but my thought is that it's just not going to be good enough when the dogfighting module hits. What's frustrating is that I know that when push comes to shove, it doesn't matter until next year.
or am I just being overly negative about how the dogfighting module will perform on the 570? I don't care that it won't be the prettiest looking, I'll save that for a much later upgrade I just don't want things to be so slow to the point that I don't get a decent representation of the dogfighting module
Why anyone would ever upgrade their video card before getting their hands on the game they're upgrading for is beyond me. I've never bought a video card without having a game installed and running on my computer that isn't running well enough. Upgrading right now for a dogfighting module that isn't out and which itself won't even be updated seems like madness, although I suppose if I had enough money maybe I could make it make sense.
