the silliness of the Top Gear track events is pretty in line with the whole tone of the show. it can go from serious car love to out right vehicular nonsense faster than a reasonably priced car driven by a celebrity can do a lap of said track. to be honest, i'd quite like to them broaden the range of Top Gear tomfoolery. maybe add in a car football(soccer) mode, or just go nuts and let us do what ever crazy stuff the BBC wont let the show do in real life.
Also, is there anyway to set it up so I can do time trials from a dead start?
I bought a C'eed to race around the test track to see how my time would compare to people that have driven it on the show, but unless I restart after every lap that doen't work so well.
I know I've done at least one Top Gear event (chase event perhaps?) where I collided with cross traffic. I was flat out through the tires and they were braking for Chicago.
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.
so i was able to claim some rewards off the Forza website and have gotten messages in-game telling me that i've received them(2 payments one for 1M CR then other for 2M), but they haven't actually been deposited. anyone else have this problem? is it just a delay and they'll show up later or am i being screwed?

Actually they took those from you because YOU'RE A HORRIBLE PERSON WHO SUCKS!
Swear to god I had forgotten my hatred of you until I went back to gold the starter championship series and your damn drivatard was there waiting for me like a rabid weasel.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

thank you. i never even noticed the 'download' prompt at the bottom. that first million would have really come in handy yesterday too.
I love the Prague track, as some one who played tons of pgr it felt like home immediately. The Alps track is probably the best looking track to me. And the test airfield is super fun for me, but I tend to stick to production and cars a rank or lower because super cars and exotics engine noise typically annoys the shit out of me.
I have to say while I don't mind the track itself, I feel dirty racing on the dubai track as that whole country is melting into the sand and the real track was built with slave labor...

It was also designed by Hermann Tilke and drives exactly like every other track he's ever made. At the very least they could have put a Tilkedrome in from somewhere more relevant to motorsports, or thrown in a better, non-Tilke F1 track, like Interlagos or Monaco. Although knowing how Dubai is, I'm betting they gave T10 a whole lot of money to put that track in the game.

I still like Hockenheimring post-Tilke don't care what you say. It's not the iconic track it used to be, but i still really enjoy the new version. Would have been nice if they didn't tear up the old bit though, but german laws wouldn't allow for that iirc?
Monaco would be a nightmare to race on, but it'd certainly be an interesting course to have. Interlagos would be neat though. I'd also take Imola.
Post-Tilke Hock feels nothing like the same track is my main issue. You can change up a track and not have it lose its character (i.e. the various layouts of Sonoma). I will grant that Tilke's Hock is not as bad as what he did to Fuji. My lord new Fuji is atrocious, right there with Motegi, Valencia and Silverstone in the absolute bottom tier of race tracks.
And Monaco is a nightmare to race on, sure, but man oh man is it fun/terrifying to drive on. One of the highlights in Gran Turismo games is taking the F1 car around that place and trying not to die horribly. I love it.
Most of the old fun designs that have been boringed up were doomed from the start due to terrible safety issues sadly. Monaco is a pretty marked exception to that.

You're not wrong, but there are ways to address safety issues that don't involve completely changing a track. Like, look at what Watkins Glen did to address safety by adding in the bus stop; hell, I'd even go so far as to say that the bus stop was an improvement from a racing perspective. Monza is another track that addressed safety concerns in a decent fashion (and another track that would be great to have in Forza!). Or hell, Le Mans has changed a lot for safety reasons, and while I'd love a version without the Ford or Dunlop chicanes, the modern track is still a lot of fun and still completely insane.
I think a major problem with the track changes they made to Hockenheim and Fuji, as well as Tilkedromes in general, is that the FIA stipulates that modern tracks need certain 'zones', if you will. They need to have certain types of turns and sequences. It's why they changed the character of Fuji and Hock so much, and why Tilke tracks all feel so same-y. Playing F1 2010 really drove home how sterile and boring modern F1 tracks are; they all feel like the exact same track.

Do they? I have a pretty limited experience with them (by only what's in Forza, really), but the few that are there certainly have their own character. I could figure that racing on only F1 tracks has the potential to make them blend together a bit. But I definitely feel like Suzuka is quite different from Spa is quite different from Yas Marina is quite different from Hockenheim is quite different from Sivlerstone, etc ...
Other people are slow, and I only feel like rewinding so many times.
Oddly enough I feel the same way, yet I've clearly demonstrated in past that I am not a fast driver.
The only thing I don't like about Yas is the two super long straights being joined by that awful double greater than right angle chicane thing. At least made it some interesting chicaney bits in there or something...
I can sort of see what Cubi's talking about where every track Tilke designs has high-speed areas and tight-technical areas and those areas are mutually exclusive.

When I say 'modern F1 tracks', I am not referring to places like Spa or Suzuka. I am referring specifically to tracks built recently that were primarily designed by Hermann Tilke for Formula 1, i.e. Yas Marina, Valencia, Bahrain, etc.

That's worthy clarification. Such being the case, I just don't have experience to comment on that design.

there's a list of tracks designed by him here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Tilke
just from looking at a number of the maps some of them are quite similar. He loves that high speed straight broken up with a corner you pretty much have to stop for.
So, has there been motion on picking a date/time for us Onesies to do some racing?

Olympic Park looks really nice by the track map at least.
Would people be able/opposed to doing some F5 tonight before the usual Tuesday events?

i think the problem there is that's what F1 wants. very paint by numbers.
someone should make some sort of google poll for when to do multiplayer. @Eclibull >_>
So, my drivatar has something like 271 collisions, but 0 major collisions. What about you guys? (its at the bottom of the driver stats in your forza profile).
Also, who has bought the F40? I have to say, I'm really disappointed with how the car sounds. In FM4, it sounded amazing, the way it surged when you let off the throttle, the turbo sounds etc... The engine sounds the same, but I feel like all the nuances that they put into FM4 have gone away and the car isn't as magical. Also, the old james hunt car on bathurst is an amazing experience.

I'll set one up this afternoon. (that's not my forum handle, btw )
I should be on tonight, but I've been fighting NAT issues on my One (Open one minute, pops to Strict the next for no reason whatsoever), and likely my trying to fix it on the One has killed it on the 360, but I'll work on it today.

I bought it but haven't played with it yet. I'll give it a go tonight and report back, though in FM4 i mostly transitioned away from the F40 to the 360 Challenge Stradale once i got that for my S class Ferrari needs.

that's unfortunate considering how many nuances they did amazingly well as far as ambient sound goes. The echos of cars bouncing off of buildings on other parts of Yas Marina sound super cool.
Did anyone else choose the Sprinter Trueno for the early sport coupe cup? That thing is fucking ridiculous in this game, holy shit. When you manually tune it for C you can afford all chassis, weight-reduction, tire, and drivetrain upgrades and still have enough left over for a race exhaust and intake. It's insanely stable, I'm only 3 seconds off of the top time on Prague full, C class and I know for a fact that I can cut about 2 seconds off that if I do as well as I've been able to do at each section. I just have to do each section well all in the same lap.
edit: I'll likely be around tonight for a Onesies meet. I've only actually built cars for C class since that's what every event in the first bracket appears to be, but I think I could get a B and an A sorted.
I shall be online for Onesies/5 tonight but it looks like Forza 4 is no longer an option . NAT on the 360 won't get beyond Moderate no matter what (I literally just set everything back to what it was when it was Open, unplugged the One from everything and the 360 still wouldn't get past Moderate). The One seems to be holding at Open for now, at least.
I felt you guys would enjoy the Tale accompanying today's installment of The Trenches.
I’m a Motorsport fan. There’s no denying that. Formula 1, Le mans, touring cars, the lot.
Anyway. There came an opportunity to test a big name racing game, so I leapt at the chance. Why not? I love racing games, I love watching racing; it seemed perfect. I applied and got employed, yay!
Each of us working there was assigned one track and one car each (there were a lot of us), two cars if we were ‘lucky’.
It took 2 months to comprehensibly cover every square pixel of Silverstone. every camber, every barrier at every speed we could. Six years on, I still dream about it. I can’t watch the British Gran Prix anymore. One of my deepest passions ruined. I had to move because I used to live 20 miles away from the track.
My brother has done a lot of video game testing for sony. He usually gets stuck on some junk sports title since they release the same tripe year after year. He said its hours of play this team vs this team, do X, Y, and Z at least once during the game, etc... He said its pretty awful (nothing like actually playing a game for enjoyment). On top of that they keep most of the testers as contractors so that they can be fired after a few months, then when the next title arrives they're re-hired. Keeps the company from having to give them benefits or qualifying for unemployment.

Have you ever read The Trenches or its accompanying stories from real-world testers? Not trying to be snotty, just asking, as what you're relating sounds entirely in keeping what the former testers in those stories say and you might find it amusing/interesting if you haven't read it before.

That sucks I still am fairly screwed most tuesdays, so not sure when i'll be able to find time to play FM5 online if we're going to make that tuesday. At least prolly finish the SBC in 4 unless more people want to just play 5, which i'm also willing to do.

I'll probably hop on in an hour or so, just so people know. Send me an invite if you're around as I'm pretty sure I haven't been adding as many people as may have added me.
I've added everyone to my friends list. I'll be on later this evening after the family duties are wrapped up.

Added myself to the driver list finally. I'll be on in probably two hours or so for some Forza 5 fun. Hopefully we plan to race something small and cheap, as I don't have the credits to buy anything exotic.
