Got a couple of questions about this! I've heard it's a lot like d2 LoD, but I'll admit one of the things that always irked me was how incredibly easy it was to screw up a character build because you weren't reading a guide. I take it respecs are easier to come by?
Secondly, is there anything like post-1.10 Summonmancers? Something I always missed in Diablo 3, for as much as I liked several of its changes, was running around with my own personal army of skeletons that annihilated everything.

I'm kind of a noob at this sort of game. I loved Diablo 2, what I played of it anyway (Never got to act 2) so I signed up for closed beta on this and got in ages ago. I'm suffering the same problem. Namely, a character gets near Level 40 and I get bored and make another. And another. And so on and so forth.
Currently I'm playing Shadow. Going for a high physical damage, life and mana leech with high crit chance. I use Whirling Blades as a method of fast escape and I have 18% increased movement speed, so kiting isn't real hard.
My question is, since my speed has been getting better, the hitreg has been getting consistently worse, mainly with Whirling blades. I find I have to do at least three passes through a group before any real damage is done. I have a 92% hit chance, so it can't be missing that often. Is there another skill I can invest in for a Level 27 speedy shadow, that isn't incredibly buggy?
She died when Perpetus and a Rare "Bringer of Bones" ganged up on her and i only noticed too late that i had a huge desync going on. Oh well
I'm more pissed about the loss of the skill gems i had(first nemesis character) than anything else.
Things i've learned so far:
- EK seems that it can become really good since it seems to dip into SpellDamage, ProjectileDamage and PhysicalDamage. Not sure how good it scales and if it becomes even better later (with MUCH better gear) but it's a bit lackluster in Single Target which is why i was using Fire Trap. (Fire Trap owns Normal pretty much)
- EK is a spell and can't use LifeGainOnHit, unlike Spectral Throw, which sucks a bit. If i had it, or even a LifeLeech gem (it was next level), i would've probably survive that encounter just by spamming EK.
- EK is really slow at start and it's range sucks.
- If i had managed to get a gear piece with GGR sockets linked, i could've added FasterProjectiles to my link and clear maps much much faster.
- Looking at _J_ 's build, it's eerie at just how similar our (this is mine) builds are, at least at the start. This means i can probably just go with SpectralThrow until level 30 or so while i build the base of my build. This also gives access to a good ST ability, like DoubleStrike, that i can 'melt' bosses with.
On the good side, until level 30, 6!!! chaos orbs dropped for me. If that's not a sign, i don't know what it is! (Can probably use them to buy a Goldrim's which would help me A LOT)
EDIT: I forgot a point : i really like how that build leaves weapon gearing up for me. I can go double dagger, double wands, dagger/wand + SpellDamage shield.
New knives cost still looks fairly ridiculous, even after the cost got reduced for the official release.
It's 42 mana base (!) at level 18.
Being able to pay for the spell after multipliers is a huge concern going forward for any build.
The wiki article also reveals some interesting info regarding EK's interactions with other skills.
It should be noted that projectile speed influences EK's range and that there is both a gem and a node that increases this.
Also noteworthy:
EK hitting physical reflect mobs can hurt you badly, so I'd suggest an armor build.
I'm going to be online and playing for some large chunks of time today; IGN is Riusaldregan if anyone wants to add me and say hello The friends list is a desolate place for me.
I went with a Templar, trending towards a Staff and I am thinking about alternating Glacial Hammer and Infernal Strike with Elemental Equilibrium. Just found a bitchin' rare belt that has increased elemental damage with weapons, life regen, fire resistance, increased stun duration on enemies and reflects 3 damage on attackers. This is more useful than any rare I ever found in D3.
The way I figured it, EE is not such a deep investment that I couldn't just unallocate those points spent and rework. I wanted to do a Staff Templar in some way, this was just the first plan I landed on.
If I'm alternating Fire and Ice attacks, I could have added Lightning damage from jewelry without affecting dps, right?
Edit: the wiki says two-handed items can have six sockets, but Staves are 1x4 in the inventory. Can Staves really have six sockets? Do they get bigger, as tetris pieces?
To be fair, dual wielding has block and block nodes and such. So in this instance, switching between a bow and dual wielding could in theory increase survivability.
Of course, thats a lot of node investment for something you only use sometimes.
True. The block rate from dual wield increases my survivability when things are hitting me. It wasn't a huge passive investment because I mostly took nodes that affected both bow and melee (ie: Acceleration, 12% attack speed & 20 Dex). If I did take a weapon-specific or something, it was only one or two points out of the way and I only did it a few times (ie: Fencing, 24% increase physical damage with one-handed melee weapons). Only 11 of my nodes have something that's cannot be used by both, and even then most of those have something nice (ie: Fury Bolts, 12% increased projectile damage & 20 Str). It's a very flexible tree.
@VeritasVR What did this build look like? Broad strokes is fine, just want to get a handle on the skills you were using.
Oh geez uhh I've kinda been playing a templar on domination for a while and I kinda forgot? It uses a bunch of unrelated skills based on the situation.
- My main attack for melee AND ranged is Elemental Hit with a few supports making it a high-damage, single-target attack. It's almost required to have a main attack that works with both melee and ranged because switching weapons *still* screws up the hotkeys (thanks PoE). Therefore, I am limited to main attacks being Elemental Hit, Puncture, or Frenzy. This is mostly a clean-up attack or for bosses.
- I throw Fire Traps with Concentrated Effect, Added Fire Damage, and Increased Burning Damage. Also for bosses, mostly.
For ranged:
- I have Explosive Arrow with LMP as my ranged AoE.
- I use Rain of Arrows with Culling Strike and Increased Area of Effect. It does very little damage against stuff with more than 10% health, but it everything else on the screen is taken out instantly.
For melee:
- I'm probably taking damage from multiple enemies and need life, so I attached a Life Leech to Cleave and it works out pretty well in an emergency.
- I use Viper Strike with Faster Attacks and Increased Duration against bosses. I run in with a quicksilver+granite, pop 4 charges on it, and run out. The tooltip says it does 379 chaos damage per second per charge for 13 seconds.
I'm going to be online and playing for some large chunks of time today; IGN is Riusaldregan if anyone wants to add me and say hello The friends list is a desolate place for me.

Not full respecs, but one item of currency is an Orb of Regret that allows you to refund a passive skill point. You also receive about 18 respec points from quests. So, while you do not get to fully respec your character it is possible to move some skills around if you make a mistake, or change your mind a bit.
Secondly, is there anything like post-1.10 Summonmancers? Something I always missed in Diablo 3, for as much as I liked several of its changes, was running around with my own personal army of skeletons that annihilated everything.
Hells yeah. You can have an army of skeletons, zombies, specters, and mobs you've revived. It feels pretty much exactly like summonmancers from D2. And they are viable at end game!

My Mana and Quicksilver flask do not have any noteworthy affixes yet.
What flask modifiers ought I have in Mercilous? I'd like to have another Staunching, since Corrupted Blood is my biggest problem at the moment. Anything else I should be seeking?

If you want real resistance to lightning, you might just want to get a topaz flask. The issue with relying on a resistance affix from a health flask are as follows:
- Topaz flask adds 10% to maximum lightning resist in a world where +2% is a pretty big deal.
- Quality adds to the duration, and you can always expect this duration to be consistent.
- Health flasks and their affixes STOP when you reach full health, so your extra resistance there is unreliable.
- Why are you not at max 75% resist with passives and equipment?
If you care about armor, Granite is 10x better than iron skin health. It gives +3000 base armor for the duration and can also spawn with iron skin mod.
I personally carry a shock dispelling topaz flask (shock stacked sucks), iron skin granite, one double on low life HP, and two instant HP flasks. I'll need a staunching at some point too.
Is it possible to get rare flasks? I've only ever seen magic ones.
general use:
hallowed(lvl 53) health flask (3 uses) staunching, increased charge recovery
sanctified(lvl 60)health flask (2 uses) surgeons (charges on crit), ~80 increased armor
quicksilver with extra charges and curse immunity
granite with +armor and extra charges
jade with +armor and extra charges
I will probably change my sanctified health flask to an instant recovery one, since I really only use it when something goes horribly wrong and I have to bail. I haven't been able to roll a sanctified flask with staunching that would allow 3 uses, you can get this to work with a max charge roll of 15 or higher. It's also possible to get a hallowed flask with 50 charges granting 5 total uses, but good luck with that one.
I also have on hand a topaz flask that purges shock stacks (for storm heralds or other lightning baddies), and two quicksilvers with extra charges and extra flask duration for easy farming areas or leveling low characters.

anyone have advice on a good single target to couple with lightning strike, or is the fact that it's working for me now a sign that I don't need to worry about it?
and does anyone in nemesis have a reduced mana for trade? always rather go through pa/guild

just a good approach to how to think of your gear in this game.
Fucking hate this guy.
1) He has the Michael J Fox disease where he can't sit the fuck still.
2) He talks at about a third grade level.
3) Why are you moving your hands? No. Stop. Stop moving your hands. It isn't help...no. STOP. Why the fuck are you gesticulating so much!?
4) He discusses the most mundane and rudimentary meta-gaming theories as if he were a fucking tenured professor at Harvard.
Edit: God damn. The fucking worst one was just prior to Diablo 3's release, where he made a video about the kinds of food you can eat one-handed while playing a game. As if he'd never been to a health food store before, stumbled into the dried foods aisle, fell to his knees, and wept.
And then he went on a spiel about bananas and how they have potassium and how great potassium is. And how all gamers need to eat lots of potassium because I'm Dr. Kripp your Middle School Health Class teacher here to let you know the wonders of basic nutrition.
I love Kripp. He's a bit of a dick, I'll give you that. But the guy knows his shit. If you're going to listen to someone about PoE, or SRPGs in general, this is the guy. Most of his videos are geared towards education. If he dies on one of his hardcore characters, he'll make a video about the mistake he made and what he could've done differently. I used to watch him, he helped a lot.
He is kind of a dick, and always looks way to stoned.
His last death video was also retarded where he complains that "he did not learn anything", when the lesson that video gives is clearly that you should not rely 100% on logging out to save your ass in every situation.
That being said, he does have some good introduction videos to PoE!
3) Why are you moving your hands? No. Stop. Stop moving your hands. It isn't help...no. STOP. Why the fuck are you gesticulating so much!?
At least, here, they teach this in basic school when they're trying to teach you to communicate properly.
Kripp is all up and downs. But for PoE, from all the streamers i've seen, he's the best thing you can watch, imo. I only really started following his stream recently but one of the best things about him is that i've never seen him rage shout about shit. Quite an improvement from most retarded streamers.
2 days ago, when he was theory-crafting his new build, that was pretty good. At least for someone new to the game like me, that was very good insight on how to approach making a build. His youtube videos from before the release, about what stuff to look for, how to generate currency, etc. They're also pretty damn good.
There must have been a minor buff to summons or mob damage went down since I last played because after running through my full respec for my witch i am doing a hell of alot better now in normal.

I'd like to actually wear rings that aren't prismatic/ruby/sapphire/topaz for once.

Still not sure what my main attack should be for Ranger right now. I'm using Split Shot mostly for trash, and Frenzy when I want to do lots of DPS very quickly, but Frenzy eats too much of my mana to be viable right now. I also have Ice Shot linked to LMP, but that's a mana hog too. I think once I hit BM I'll be fine and Frenzy will be self sustaining.
