I was hoping to finish AC3 before 4, but that's looking unlikely, especially considering how early I am and the number of days lest until PS4 launch (assuming I make it a launch game).
How much of AC3's events does 4 reference? Does it straight up give away the ending?

I've noticed that there's a whole lot of confusion on release dates of things among all the retailers right now.
for example, I can walk right in to Gamestop and get PS4 controllers, camera, charging docks, and headsets. Other places have no clue when those will be out.
I already pre-ordered Killzone digitally. I'm thinking of doing the buy 2g1 deal at target, but I'm not sure what to get. I'm considering doing Asscreed 4, CoD4, Knack or Need for Speed. What are people's thoughts on these launch titles?
AssCreed 4: I've usually gotten bored of the previous games before I felt I got my money's worth, however the pirate angle in intriguing.
CoD4: I really liked MW2 but haven't played one since. I'm in mood to play it again, however I'm a bit concerned about all of the DLC they drop for this game. I'm worried if I don't buy it the online community will suck. Also I'm getting Killzone so I don't know if I need another FPS especially if the Killzone Online is good. (I loved Killzone 2 online, I was not a fan of Killzone 3. I hated the unlocks)
Knack: I like that is this is different and a genre we don't seem much anymore. However none of the videos I have seen scream must have.
Need for Speed: I don't know much about this, and I don't like most racing games. However I do like Wipeout and did enjoy Paradise City (ps3) and NFS:MW (vita) so if this is similar I'm in.
I've never bought a single piece of DLC for any of the COD games (and I've played every single one) and there are always a billion people playing online. I never even redeemed the map pack code that came with Black Ops 2 for Nuke Town (one of the most popular maps of all time) and there's still matches available at any hour of the day.

So I have to admit, one of the things I am looking forward to as a Xboxer jumping ship is access to some of the Sony exclusives. Not to say I have never owned a PlayStation before, but I have never had a chance to play some of the iconic games that are associated with it.
I will leave this list here and turn and hang my head in shame. Games I have yet to play include:
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Anything in the persona series
Flow
Flower
Journey
Uncharted 3 (I did get to every other game in the series though)
The Last of Us
Resistance 3
I'm sure I'm missing some but those come to mind right away. Here is hoping they make an appearance on PS4 at some point.
I believe Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are free on PS+ as we speak. If you know you are going to want PS+ (and if you are getting a PS4, you want it) you might want to see which free games are currently available and pick up a PS+ subscription a week or two early.
The free games you get you keep forever as a PS+ subscriber, but the games available rotate out constantly. There have been a lot of good ones up there, like Uncharted 3 and XCOM.
Any word if the PS4 is getting a racing game similar to Split Second, or Burn Out? That would be the main deciding factor in if I get one of the Next Gen systems at all.
So NFS Rivals is coming out 4 days early so it can be a PS4 launch title.
Are we excited about this? I sometimes enjoy racing games, but I do not all the time enjoy racing games. Rivals isn't a Criterion game, is it? I really haven't done any research on this. It has pretty well been off my radar. In fact, I didn't even realize the launch was the 19th until they said it had changed. I was thinking this game was next year sometime.
So GameFly shipped my first PS4 game (they're sticking with the street dates it seems), and anyone else who is a member will be happy to know the "Keep It" price on titles is still 44.99.
So basically 15 bucks off brand new releases just like last-gen.

Since I got an SSD to put in my PC, I think I'll just get bf4 on it instead of PS4. That means I'm thinking of AC4, Killzone, and maybe NFS. That gives me an open world game, a FPS, and a racing game.
This is my current plan. Those 3 look like they will give good variety.

Isn't it obvious? It's 500MB for just over 1 minute of gameplay, most people wouldn't bother going through the effort. Though there does need to be a middle ground between uncompressed video and shitty Youtube compression, as the latter really undersells a lot of the improvements the next gen systems are making (not to mention the differences between the Xbone and PS4 versions).
And SP isn't 60fps because it's the one mode people want to see the prettiest graphics in.
But in a game such as say... Planetside 2 for the PS4? I'll be overjoyed at 30 FPS. I don't know if they ever said what they were shooting for. Because on my PC I got 10 FPS tops in battles.

Pretty much. Unless there's something really dramatic (like the complete lack of any AA in the Xbone version of BF4), the compression hides all the details you get from the improved textures and resolution.

It wasn't ready and I guess they didn't want to launch it unfinished and fix it with patches. They've been showing a number of the improvements they've made over the last few weeks on twitter (soft shadows, better motion blur, improved physics, etc.). Split-screen is lame as shit in a racing game, and it's understandable they'd want to keep the framerate up
Also NFS hasn't had local multi in like over five years so this is absolutely nothing new

Lame? Are you fucking kidding? Mario Kart is one of the biggest party games ever for a reason. Arcades always have a bunch of racing games for a reason. They are the perfect kind of thing to play with friends.
It's one step removed from putting out a fighting game without local multi.

I just watched the 10 minute developer video of Rivals, and it looks basically like Burnout Paradise (big open world race, events start at various locations) but with seamless merging of games with any online friends. Is that about right? Because I'd play the fuck out of that.
