It seriously baffles me how one could dismiss the appeal of local multiplayer in racing games of all things.
The first game I ever saw on the XBOX360 and an HDTV was Burnout Revenge. I couldn't believe it. Played local co-op with friends brother. My mind was blown.
They release so many NFS games anymore I can't even keep them straight, this one looks no different than the last 4 that have come out. "Race Ferrari along coastline, cops drive supercars, everything busts apart when you crash into it".
I miss Burnout where you would physically wince when you crashed, it was so brutal. Imagine those wrecks realized on the PS4/XBO, I think it'd be amazing.
edit; And yeah, I don't think I've played a racing game with local multiplayer in like 10 years. We'd always just do hot-swap multiplayer and do various races against the CPU and then pass the controller around.
I sent friend requests to everyone in the Google doc. Ah Vita, how convenient you are. It looks like the Vita just got updated, too. Aside from some interface tweaks, it added a PS4 Link app. You can select Remote Play and Second Screen from within it.

Yesssssssssss, I'm going to download the update and just gaze longingly at the PS4 Link app.
Fun tangential story: when I was a wee lad and before my parents could afford a NES, I drew a NES and controllers on construction paper at school and pretended I owned a NES. It had Ghostbusters!

Update on my quest for a PS4 sans preorder.
It appears my Sam's Club is not taking preorders, I know the website is, but the actual store is not. I will have a sleeper agent ready over there for when they open on the 15th. I will of course call the day before to make sure they are getting them.
So Sears and Sam's Club are my current hope.

Yeah, gotta agree. Shadowfall is one fine looking game. Even if they just did in engine scripted scenes like that, it would sell the game better than live action. Live action makes it look like they're ashamed of the graphics - which, lets be honest, has always been a selling point of the series.

The latest NFS was basically Burnout Paradise 2, and pretty great. But yeah, they should calm down their release cadence with them.
I loved Paradise, but couldn't get into that one. I really wanted to like out too.
It's because Most Wanted was a lot like Paradise but worse in every way possible. Worse framerate, worse city, worse races, worse mechanics, worse everything. And then they threw those fucking cops on top of it and littered the map with DLC adverts, resulting in a game that really wasn't that fun. I'd hope Rivals is a dramatic improvement.
Anyway, for baseball fans, here's the first look at MLB 14: The Show. Sounds like 2K have finally given up on their series so baseball games are now exclusive to Sony's platforms.
And in other news, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is coming out early next year and is going to be digital only on PS4/Xbone. PS3/360 are getting retail versions (and cheaper digital versions) but that's it. With most series this wouldn't bother me but since I have physical versions of the entire series so far, I'd actually like to collect the retail version. So I figure I'll buy the physical PS3 version in the short term and wait for the PS4 version to be packed in with MGS5 to get that one (which I figure is inevitable, whether as a collector's edition or whatever).
MLB is going to be nuts, I can't wait. They sound like they're really going all in which is awesome to hear, they could have done a shitty port ala EA but they're doing it right. Not to mention this is going to be the ONLY baseball sim for any next-gen console this year. For being so focused on sports MS should have had something in the pipeline for MLB since it's only exclusive to 3rd party developers.
Look at this comparison so far, I'm fapping already.:
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
And in other news, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is coming out early next year and is going to be digital only on PS4/Xbone.
I really hope this isn't confirmed because it if is, then I'm fucking out. Next Gen files sizes are going to be fucking stupid-huge and forcing them as downloads is dumb dumb dumb when surprise, surprise internet infrastructure has not fucking magically improved overnight.
It's a demo. You don't HAVE to get it. And if you don't want to download it (8GIG files take like 10 minutes on my connection), you can always get it on the PS3 or XBOX360. I feel the overall assumption here with digital purchases, is that they are there for you if you really want to take an hour to grab it. I've never had a problem dling from PSN. Not sure why I'd start now.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is just the prologue to the much longer Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, though. Its file size might not be too unmanageable. Also, separating these two but calling them both Metal Gear Solid V is confusing. Dammit, Kojima.

I mean, I know I'm in the minority and it's great that you guys have capable internet, but, well
inFamous 2: Festival of Blood was, what, 3.2 gigs? It took me longer to download it than it took me to 100% complete it. (15 hours versus...probably about 12-14) So yeah, this digital-only nonsense is fucking infuriating. Not to mention people with normal internet who have caps and etc. etc. all those arguments that come up every time the goddamn internet is perceived to be this wonderful, ever-present, capable thing for everyone. (Like when the XBone was originally announced)

It's weird, isn't it? It's not a full game, either. It's a single mission, the one that's been demoed quite often. Kojima is suggesting it will have a lot of replayability, but I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Fine. . .a prologue to the main game that will give you a taste of the game mechanics so you can decide whether or not you are in for the long haul and want to double dip (just don't call it a demo).
Personally, I've no interest in paying half-price for what will most definitely NOT be a game half the size of TPP.

You're not alone. I live in Australia, so super fast internet isn't everywhere. Where I live right now I can only get ADSL, which is super expensive because hey, they can. Not many places offer ADSL any more. On my connection, 8gig will take a lot longer than 10 minutes, and take almost my entire on or off peak monthly download quota for the month. I am building a house and I don't even know if ADSL 2 or faster is confirmed there, since it's a new suburb.
Digital only full titles are just a thing I won't do, unless it's free like from PSN+. If a Konami rep is saying 'suck it down, we have fast internet', then they basically lose a sale from me.

Yeah, it's stupid. I don't understand what the fuck's going on with them. I'd compare it with ZoE+MGS2 demo or GT5 Prologue but it's not a demo nor does it have a shitload of content to play around with. It's a £30 prologue (which I guess will be US$40) with maybe 3 hours content.
The more I think about it, the more I'm considering skipping it. If I really want to play it next year, I can rent it, and if I really want to collect a physical PS3 copy, I can buy a used copy when they're worthless.
So NFS Rivals is coming out 4 days early so it can be a PS4 launch title.
Are we excited about this? I sometimes enjoy racing games, but I do not all the time enjoy racing games. Rivals isn't a Criterion game, is it? I really haven't done any research on this. It has pretty well been off my radar. In fact, I didn't even realize the launch was the 19th until they said it had changed. I was thinking this game was next year sometime.
I wasn't really all that enthused about Rivals until I read up about the developer of the title, Ghost Games. Turns out it's about 80% ex-Criterion employees so... I'm not significantly more interested in how that game turns out.
Having just gotten my PS3, those posts are awesome. Was also told I need to check out Ni No Kuni and Journey today. Grabbed the shadow of the colossus/ICO pack today. Cause, you know, best games.

As far as I'm aware, there are two Ghost Games studios and they're both working on it. The first is just called Ghost Games, they're a new studio based in Sweden and aren't big enough to work on a game by themselves. The second is Ghost Games UK, who are basically a re-named Criterion (with the skeleton crew left at Criterion finally free of NFS).
Yeah seems you're right Unco-ordinated, looking closer at the Newegg page for that top one(guess they require you to put actual specs in your damned description!) they really are the same thing more or less.
Vita firmware 3.00 hit this evening, and it includes a PS4 Link app for remote play/second screen, along with a reworked Friends app and some other stuff. Hype hype hype hype hype.
How is this launch only about a week away?! I'm going crazy. I was hoping against hope that the Friends cap would increase with this firmware - no such luck. Oh well. I can wait a week. Do you guys think it'll be annoying to have every single person on the Google doc on one friends list and see so much activity? It'll be busy, for sure... but I want the very act of navigating the UI to be like a G&T MMO.
Alright, Network Switch ordered. My only real issue now is I'm lacking headphones which will work with the PS4. Some people do seem to -really- confuse my reasons for wanting a pair. Has nothing to do with voice, everything to do with keeping the sound from the console to my own ears instead of piping through the shitty speakers on the back of my monitor.
