You know what would've been really cool? Not doing this and just doing The Dark Below and Maelstrom/Emerald Dream shit. Yeah, that would've been cool because we've done "time travel" in this game enough as it stands.

Basically what I'm hearing from Blizzard is tacit admission that they don't have any clue on how to make compelling characters anymore, and having now pretty much tapped out potential villains in the present, are creating a time-travel plot so that they can exploit Azeroth's PAST for antagonists/protagonists.
Kill me now.
It's certainly giving me vibes of Berman and Braga.

I'm still hoping they use this to reboot the entire series and bring past villains back to life. But instead of kill them in a hurry, they do what they did with Garrosh - "Oh wait we can have you beat him in combat, but then have him still alive!"
Then we get recurring Deathwing plots and such. So fuck yes.

Oh also, Outland still exists from this perspective;
- The Burning Legion returned! Go through the Dark Portal and finish them off sorta.
- The Lich King is making his move! Rally!
- Oh shit the Cataclysm occurred.
- Pandas!
- Why is the Dark Portal changing color? WHOA WHAT THE FUCK ORCS?!
So Draenor and Outland don't exist simultaneously from a continuity standpoint. It exists as a beat in leveling content, but it doesn't reflect the current times. You wouldn't go to WotLK as your level 90 panda and go, "OMG THE LICH KING!"
That makes a little more sense, but it still doesn't account for the fact that Garrosh's time travel changed Draenor without affecting Azeroth. He prevents the orcish corruption, which means no Dark Portal? That would MESS with Azeroth something fierce.
Basically time travel is dumb and rarely ever works well.
alternate timeline
garrosh creates a divergent timeline that always exists in parallel to our own
nothing in our time is destroyed, something is only created elsewhere
very simple, completely explained, and i don't know why they tried to explain it so poorly
So why is he bothering invading OUR timeline rather than the Azeroth on his own? Surely hopping through timelines is a hell of a lot more difficult that just opening the Dark Portal. I guess they don't have a Medivh for the other side, but it's still rather silly.
The lore has always been dumb, man. Warcraft has never been some complex political thriller. I'd rather them keep playing around with characters and concepts we already know than invent a bunch of new shit that all the diehards will reject for being terrible anyway.
I want to meet alternate-universe arthas who never became the lich king and wound up becoming king of stormwind, etc.
ed: also you know what I don't want? A whole expansion fighting nagas in some underwater shithole
Eat it You Nasty Pig. on

He'd have been king of Lordaeron, not Stormwind. While he was very good friends with Varian (who was prince of Stormwind at the time) I doubt Varian would've just given away his crown.

As I understand it, the Dark Portal is still being built. The demons have already set the wheels in motion for the plan, and so Medivh's all busy building the side on Azeroth.
The demons weren't expecting the Orcs to suddenly not want to drink up the demon piss and go crazy for them. The orcs on the Draenor side are still going to build the Dark Portal, but instead of invading for the Burning Legion, they're going to invade because they feel like it.

Kalgan explained the time travel stuff in the panel.
Whoever helps Garrosh go back in time split the timeline into two at the point Garrosh goes back. They are two separate realities that converge at the dark portal in current Azeroth. The original Azeroth timeline is preserved as is where the burning legion invaded, etc. Outland is unchanged because the old events still happened in the current reality, Ner'zhul is still the LK, etc.
The other timeline has Garrosh stop the blood of Mannoroth infecting the orcs. Garrosh then tries to unite the orc clans and give them future technology. The purpose of the new reality/timeline is to provide an army to Garrosh to invade our timeline to seek revenge for what happens in Pandaria.
The dark portal in modern day Azeroth is connected to another time in that other reality. Garrosh wants to bring that Orcish horde from their past to 'our' present. When we enter the dark portal you are going back in time in the other reality to stop Garrosh from overrunning old Draenor.

"Wait, through that portal the demons wanted us to build, there's a world full of challenging races to test our mettle?!"
So they said that the island that will become Netherstorm (Farahlon) will be a future content patch (it's the unnamed island in the northeast). They also said the homeland of the Ogres where we see the peak of their civilization or whatever will be a future content patch. Since ogres have a big presence in Nagrand, I assumed this referred to that small unnamed island near Nagrand on the map.
Somebody also pointed out this:
There's a whole other continent down there. Is that going to be the ogre homeland, or is that going to be a future expansion since this one leads directly into the next? Or did Blizzard just decide to spruce up the map by drawing additional landmasses?

Well you know, it's a whole planet, you'd think there's couple of more continents there.
Crisis on Infinite Draenors... At first I chuckled.
Then I thought about how fucking awesome it would be if the mucking about in history actually broke space-time, bringing both timelines into a cataclysmic battle against one another, a battle which culminates in the world 'restarting' from some new baseline.
I just have this image of Arthas fighting the Lich King and holy Hell do I ever want to see it happen.

Holy shit.
Well, minus everything aesthetic about being either of those, sure...I guess?
What I'm saying is let me look like a warden. Give me warden transmog armor and I'll shutup.
well i mean if i spec demonology i kind of am actually
because we beat him up and he's mad
okay here i made a graph to explain it:
this would be the best plot twist ever

Holy fuck that is incredible.
Garrosh went back in time so that he could absorb Orc Chiefs 17 & 18 and become Perfect Garrosh.

These new models are so much better.
Gnome O-face in the middle there is terrifying.

Tauren is the least impressive so far, but even that one has a lot more expressiveness than the current model.
