MTV, EA Start a Rock Band with Harmonix
Guitar Hero creators invite rest of the band in upcoming game
By Philip Kollar, 04/02/2007
With Guitar Hero 2 for the Xbox 360 almost on store shelves, true fans have already begun agonizing over what developer Harmonix will be doing next, especially since the surprise that they were leaving Guitar Hero 3 to Neversoft, in order to pursue a "more ambitious" project -- and they weren't kidding about it being ambitious.
The companies have officially unveiled the long-rumored Rock Band. With MTV and Electronic Arts now providing financial backing, Harmonix is going full throttle into creating their dream game. Featuring four music-inspired controllers -- lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, and a microphone -- Rock Band will allow a group of four people to team up and perform every part of their favorite songs. They're also hoping to get a lot more artists and record labels to supply original recordings for this game, instead of having to do covers as they did with most of the songs on Guitar Hero 1 and 2.
No songs have been revealed yet, of course, but EA's David DeMartini did point out that online connectivity is not only a feature of Rock Band, it's the key feature. Considering the noticeable lack of online in the Xbox 360 release of Guitar Hero 2, that is exciting news. How will it actually play? It's sounding like a pretty familiar tune (not that that's a bad thing):
"Harmonix was founded to create new ways for everyone to experience the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from playing music. Our work on Guitar Hero was an instrumental step toward that goal," says Alex Rigopulos, co-founder of Harmonix.
Rock Band is expected to be released by holiday 2007 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Songs lists, pricing info, hands-on previews and more will be doled out until then to further feed your anticipation.
T to the L; D to the R
The guys who made Guitar Hero are making a full on Gig Simulator.

I fell in love with a girl there
she said what?
and I was like "shit I don't know"
Rock show
a big gigantic cock show
Except that I hope I'm not expected to get all of those different controllers. GH2 and the guitar is expensive enough.
3DS: 5241-1953-7031
you get one controller and do a band thing online
or you play your one part in single player
people with the other controllers come over and it's a jamfest
do different versions come with different instruments or does it come with them all and cost a billion dollars?
also no Wii version is boo
it's like someone gave me my own baby bulbasaur
and was like "this is yours forever"
Probably because Wii controller extensions require a remote, so you'd need 4 remotes plus 4 extensions and that's expensive
oh yeah
this is destined for failure
and I'd blow
but that's the fun
especially if you can choose to play each part individually in single player
because fuck, I want to play them all
I want to get a real drum set.
And lessons.
probably some lessons too.

Bass guitar will be boring. Microphone will be, too, unless you're drunk and with friends.
I think you could get Tribute in at least.
I wasn't trying to attract YOU of all people.
but you could sing in my band if you wanted
Shoe makes a good point
the best bass guitar part in the world is in Let the Sun Shine
Well, that, and the announcement on Harmonix's website.
except for the part that goes AWWWWWW FUCK, GOOD GOD, GOTTA LOVE IT, I SO SURPRISED TO FIND YOU CAN'T STOP ME NOW, AW HALLELUJAH AW RICH MOTHAFUCKA DA DEE DA DOO
I'm thinking that drummers are going to get completely screwed
not unlike real life, actually
boston's "more than a feeling"
it'll be a thousand dollars and come with a trumpet, three guitars, a piano, two drum sets, a trombone, a french horn, a violin, violla, upright bass, and a harp
i would buy it
(that was in Guitar Hero I)
most games me pukey in the uh..
I was trying to think of a synonym for stomach that rhymed with pukey.

just a whole bunch of instruments and people who can't play them.
(I know it was my favorite one)
(and "Killer Queen")
no, ska bands know how to play horns and saxes
other than that they just play two chords on a guitar and maybe like three strings of the bass
there isn't one
first person shooters make me like that.
and like, the guy I was fighting arrived, and he was some fat german kid
I completely knocked him out with a single haymaker
