I swear I get the worst pub teams. I was on Tourmaline Desert earlier and I thought I had my team at my back to push on a few mechs. I engaged an Atlas, I saw some other guys take out a Centurion. I turn away from the dead Atlas to find everyone gone, a damaged Dragon coming at me. I take out the Dragon with a few rounds of LB10x, then the entire rest of their team crests a ridge and blows me way the hell up.
Where was my team? Chasing a pair of lights across the map.
The smartest thing to do is to always check your minimap for the proximity of your teammates before you commit to an engagement. The target arrows point in the direction their legs are facing, so you'll be able to see easily when they start to turn away.
Pubs will always be pubs. Best to treat them like the weather, and just dress accordingly.

That's what I did when I first engaged. And they were engaging with me and took out that Cent. It's just that when I dropped the Atlas, they had already begun chasing the lights and I had no place to go but to engage the Dragon and get caught in the rest of the enemy team's advance. I really should start dropping with you Oosik's guys.

Dropping with Oosiks is scientifically proven to be 1000% more fun and successful than pubbing.
I didn't realize they changed how the banners were displayed as well. Now they're no longer on the side of your cockpit but actually on a stand now. Awesome! Now people can actually see my Piranha Hunt banner.
I don't think I've ever literally been one-shot before.
I've one-shotted several Locusts with my Wang.
I feel bad every single time.
Meanwhile, they could nerf Spider hitboxes until they are the size of an Awesome and from now unto the end of time I will still shout "YES! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET!" on one-shotting them.

I've accidentally one-shotted friendly Spiders and felt nothing but grim elation.
And then there was that one time I managed to sneak up behind a stationary Spider in an assault. I just about had to change my pants after one-shotting that bastard.
That moment when a light mech comes to a complete stop in front of your mech for a full second
... and all your weapons are still reloading from something else so they get away with nary a scratch
That moment when you're in a light, watch an assault fire off an alpha, and then you stop right in front of him with your own alpha and skitter off ololololol the way, completely unharmed.

Light mech hunting is one of my favorite pasttimes in MWO. I can't count how many times I've obliterated light mechs who decided to park behind my teammate's heavy or assault for an alpha instead of just taking their shot on the move.

I'm guilty of that. It's just so damn tempting when they don't turn around after the first shot. I get lots of kills doing that, but I've been killed plenty of times doing that, too.

That's like forcing yourself to eat a meal in a restaurant that you really aren't enjoying.
Actually, more like buying a set meal with a deliciously tasty main course, an amazing pudding, and a great after-dinner coffee included, but a small plate of dogturds with sugar as a starter.
JUST DON'T EAT THE TURDS ENJOY THE FUN PARTS OF THE MEAL.
Oh, absolutely. My SSRM builds almost universally mount BAP at this point. The benefits are just too good to overlook, to me.
So, some theorycrafting as I plan my purchases for the foreseeable future. Looking at the Cicada, the ECM variant has the odd single ballistic mount. In the absence of a D-DC in the assault blob, I wonder if this variant could serve as a alternate source of ECM while still providing some medium-mech punch, without sacrificing all of it's speed.
The goal would be to 1) cover the assault blob with ECM, 2) provide a reasonable punch to supplement the blob's firepower, and 3) preserve enough speed to position yourself where needed. Thoughts?
This is the exact build I settled on after eliting my 3M. It's great - enough punch to hurt lights, and fast enough to dance around the big guys. Plus, shotgun.

I bit on the weekend deal, and took this build out for a spin last night. Completely unbasic'd, in my first match I put up a 650 damage, 2 kill, 3 assist performance. My tactic in that game wasn't what I'd intended though (ran out to a flank Conquest point, came back to the main melee once a bunch of enemy mechs were weakened). My second match was Assault, so I stuck closer to the assault blob. I only scored 350 damage, but the match made me feel like the original tactical theory is sound. It's kind of a weird niche role.
It feels a little bit sluggish, but some of that is probably because of recently piloting Locusts/Spiders, and not having any efficiencies unlocked. Even so, I like what I'm seeing so far.
I bought the Storm tier Phoenix package a few weeks ago and finally put some serious play time into the Shadowhawks this weekend with the two free days of Premium time rolling. These things live up to the hype in a big way. It's the first medium I've piloted that feels just as potent as my heavies and assaults. I routinely end matches at armor percentages so low they make my zombie cents jealous, with most of the weapons still firing and not just two CT lasers. I particularly like the 2H and 2D2 in Streak configurations, which are rapidly becoming some of my favorite mechs.

Woof. Good scores there, Bimini!
I'm pretty set on my 5M being my AC20/JJ mech. Your 2H build looks interesting; it's the one variant I wasn't completely satisfied with. How's the trip-MG's on that thing? Do you find you're able to use them effectively?
They synergize very well with the streaks. No heat, the same face hugging hitscan/lock on play style, and the second your streaks open a hole in their armor their damage skyrockets. They're responsible for many killing blows and legged lights I miss out on with the 2D2. The ERLL is nice for standoff engagements and I find that the extra heat is negligible close in as I keep up fire with the MGs and streaks while I cool down for a laser shot.
How do you build your AC20 5M? The AC10 build is a solid performer but I don't have the same love for that gun that I do for the AC20.
I'm currently running mine as an AC20 2PPC metagolem, which you can also run with an AC10 or 2 AC5s. My friend swears by his AC20 2ml 3srm4 brawler build on his 9S, and you can do pretty much the same thing on the 9B with 2srm6. Another option is a build based on the "shredder arm" with an LBX10 and 2mg as a low heat crit seeker with big energy weapons to balance it out. Engines range from XL350 to XL380 depending on the loadout and desired ammo/heatsinks.

I'm away from legit internet, but here's the high points: AC20, 2xML, STD260, Endo, FF, JJ's. I originally didn't have the FF, but realized I could squeeze in an extra ton of ammo (5t total IIRC) if I shaved some armor.

That's science. You can't argue against science.
Yeah, tonight is the most fun I've had in MWO in a while. Even playing Locust is bearable.
Cockpit hit with the ppc/gauss alpha.
Uh yeah

[SHD-2H]: 3xMG, 3xSSRM2, ERLL, 350XL, DHS, Artemis, Endo
(I actually don't have the Artemis on the 2H yet, waiting for the announced price drop to 250k.)
[SHD-2D2]: 2xMLAS, AMS, 4xSSRM2, 350XL, DHS, Artemis, Endo
[SHD-5M]: AC/10, 2xSRM4, 2xMLAS, 300XL, DHS, Endo

I still don't know what I want to do with that SHD-5M, though. Kind of a funky mech.
What is recommended on the 9B besides the obvious triple AC/2?

Must be emergency planned maintenance.
I killed the last active Hunchback, it was actually sort of fun hunting him down amongst all the HUD clutter of disconnected 'mechs.
