if BAP actually let you target through ECM at 800m or something lots of people would run them, but as it is it's basically just a way to keep your streaks from getting jammed
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
I don't think ECM is overpowered. It's nice to have, but I don't honestly think it turns the tide much, unless you happen to be dropping as a four man with missile boats or something.
I think ECM would be a bigger deal if more people were dropping as 12 mans--but that's pretty rare. In a 12 man with good coordination, I can see how it would be overpowered.
I'm excited about the NARC buff incoming though--if only because it'll be fun to keep an eye out for the icon. Right now on the rare occasions you see it go up, it's almost always gone before anyone can hit the target. I'm waiting for an oh-shit feeling when you get hit with a beacon and see the missiles start to swarm up from behind a hill 800m away.
Hell, take it away from everyone but the Raven and limit it to the 3L chassis, down-grade the 3L's engine rating so it maxes out at around 110-115 or so, then actually boost the engine caps on the other Ravens.
BANG ECM balanced and you make the two other ravens not-shitty! two birds one stone.
I'd also like to point out that mechs that are capable of carrying ECM typically have a lower turn rate or engine size or some other drawback whether or not you take the ECM.
Giving more mechs ECM will not solve it being OP. They just need to bring it back into the Lore state, rather than wrapping every single electronics warfare package into ECM.
The lore state of ECM is garbage unless you're playing with C3. It does other stuff, but the only reason anyone voluntarily takes it is to block C3.
And since we have what can be considered to be C3 in every mech for free, ECM becomes useful.
Being able to see each other's sensor blips isn't C3. That's just a standard game of BattleTech. C3's bonus is that it lets you use the spotter to determine range and movement, which can be huge. Less advantageous in MWO. I guess it would be like if there were no zoom, everything was instant hit, and you could let your teammates fire your guns for you using their own reticle.
As much as I hate ECM now, I do remember what a joyous day it was when they introduced it and I was no longer getting lermed every which way every match.Though lrms have since been needed so the problem probably went away by itself.
But I digress, the point of this post is fuck the DDC and fuck the goose who thought it would be a good idea give it ECM to replace the command console. This was back when SRMs were actually decent, at which point they gave what was possibly the best mech in the goddamn game ECM. Fucking lunacy I tell you!

Honestly, and i know i'm a terrible person for this and alot of other things but... that first day of ECM? yeah, i had a mastered 3L just waiting and i exploited the shit out of it...
and the best part of that was running into Streak-cats who hadn't heard about ECM/weren't fully aware of what it entailed... and just taking them apart piece by piece.
BAP is a "hard" counter if you're within 180m or whatever, which is really only relevant if you're using streaks. Maybe people will run narcs after the changes go in, but I kinda doubt you'll see that many of them.
it is annoying how few people switch their ECM to counter though. I assume it's because most people don't even know it does that
Im sure as shit going to run NARC if they do indeed make it counter ECM and doesnt wear off from damage.

Seeing sensor blips is the closest you can really come to C3 in a FPS implementation of the TT game. Unless there was some sort of aim bloom at different ranges and having someone with C3 in short range made your bloom for weapons shrink down to short range levels.
which atlas variant was the crap variant? the K? the R?
if pgi has a hardon for an atlas to have ecm- y'know what? forget it. just remove ecm from the atlas. ecm should only be available on mechs on the lighter side of the weight spectrum.
I'd also like to point out that mechs that are capable of carrying ECM typically have a lower turn rate or engine size or some other drawback whether or not you take the ECM.
Except the Atlas D-DC, which is already the best all-around assault 'mech in the game even without ECM.
I hope that's not a start to a ad campaign that will degenerate into complete trash. The only hips I want to see while playing stompy robots are on the Atlas.

I must be missing the hips? Or are you referring to the female mechwarrior face on the page's backdrop?

Yeah I'm a bit confused on that as well.
The video is obviously old. It makes me wish that there was a gameplay mode where we literally ran up scaffolding to jump into our cockpit, and exited a hanger though.

Everything about that page feels super old, but sure enough it is the frontpage you're directed to if you've never visited the MWO site previously.
The video is old, and the page art is not great (why is there a woman's face there? It's fine, but there's literally nothing like it anywhere else in any art for or surrounding the game). Why any publisher thinks that landing pages like that are a useful, good idea is beyond me.
For whatever reason, I smell IGP behind it.
Countdown to the backlash on the official boards in three....two....one...yup. Though surprisingly, the change has had little blowback on the official forums.
I'd like the displays inside the cockpit to show more: transpose the HUD elements onto them. And I also want to see my pilot hit more switches. He should be doing something when I mash the shuttdown override button! I also get a kick out of how 3050 cockpits look like 1980 ones. What are all the red guarded switches? What's the yellow stripped pull lever in the Ember? Where are the ejection handles (or is it a face curtain!?) It reminds me of a Harrison Ford interview from Star Wars: he talked about how they gave him the Millennium Falcon cockpit with all it's levels and dials and he said, "Cool. Now how do I fly it?" They just shrugged.
I'm only 1/2 serious about this: the Hud I think is pretty good, and moving it around would be a lot of gameplay sacrifice for just a little immersion gain. Not to mention making it even tougher for new players.
Apparently working the VCR is lostech in MWO. All those blank cockpit screens. I imagine it's a case of priorities though; I'd like the cockpit to be fully functional, but it wouldn't add much to the actual gameplay and development time would eat resources.
I think it would be neat to have a mode using the Occulus Rift/TrackIR/whatever, where there was only a minimal HUD, and you had to look around at your different cockpit readouts for information. This would just be a "my immersion" thing though, and the distraction would make me play worse in all likelihood.

That pilot art is just bad. All of it is bad. It looks like the promo page for a B-level Command & Conquer knockoff from 1998. Indistinct 'mech on the left that looks like a bad CGI cut scene? Check. Fake cheeseball laser blast? Check. Out-of-scale-and-perspective copy and pasted 'mechs on a landscape? Check. This and the stolen Deviantart Google ad says IGP's advertiser outsourcing is flat out incompetent.
Fire up those Pentiums, boys!

Would still be rad, however.
I'm hoping beyond hope that we're able to get Oculus support in there, somehow, either through PGI or a third-party solution. I've not tried it, but I'm pretty sure I'm jumping right on the consumer model when it finally goes to market.

if I'm being charitable, I assume the old-timey film grain look is a deliberate part of the appeal
also while I'm not really one to get up in arms about casual objectification of women, the lady pilot with the perfect makeup who looks like she's on the verge of giving me the bedroom eye is kinda silly
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

Hah I was about to post that. This is the kind of thing that PGI should keep doing, to get some goodwill from it's playerbase. Actually, I guess we can take this as evidence of the UI2.0 backend changes - the frequency with which they change their sales and whatnot.
I have the Cent as well, but the free mechbay is nice.
nah, even the C variant just comes with a 275 STD. The D is the one that gets big engines and comes with a stock 300XL. Still a free mechbay and a decent chunk of cash if you just sell the thing though.

Also since I already mastered the normal CN9-A, does that mean this one gets mastered too automatically?
I am more keen on the free mech bay at this point. Lol. Still refusing to spend real money until cw hits.
I already have a CN9-A though.
Sell it and get cashy money plus a bay.

Also: Woo, free mech! I just hope that my luck this weekend is better than it was yesterday; almost couldn't buy a win playing on Thursday.
And I loves me a Centurion, so I'll happily take a free Champion version.
