If you're watching the Vasacast invitational right now, and know spanish, I highly recommend you watch it through the this guy's stream. He's so damn funny. ^^
In my ongoing effort to actually play this game instead of watch it, did my placement match. Bronze once more but that's ok with me. Though I felt kinda bad after watching the replay. My opponent built like 5 starports (because reasons?) and didn't try to expand until 10min into the game.
Now it's time to earn my way into Silver...

my tvz is fairly solid (mech 24/7)
my bio tvp is starting to work. stole 4 variations of bio openers (2 reaper, 2 cc first) and it's just way better than faking it haha. also dropping more and such. finally gave up whining about it and trying to find a way around it and just started doing what has to be done and I'm getting wins for it. still imba imba OP OP toss.
my tvt is a train wreck noooooooooooooooooooooooo. but that's okay, if I had all 3 matchups working for me at once I'd have to move to Korea and show them how it's done.
Hey thread. I'm interested in trying to get into sc2 multiplayer, but I'm in a weird spot. Tl;dr at the bottom. I played a lot of brood war. Like, thousands of hours when I was younger, though mostly ums. I was decent at regular games though.
I played the sc2 beta, and actually placed platinum, but fell into gold pretty quick. I didn't play it much though, and didn't play at all when it released. I only recently bought HotS.
So, I have no idea what the meta is like. I still need to play the single player and relearn some of the new units. But I was wondering if you guys knew of any good ways for me to learn some of the basics. I'm not a total noob, I just don't know what the landscape is like.
TL;DR: Old brood war player with next to no SC2 experience looking for ways to learn the game.
Well, I played terran in beta, and got decent at bio balling back then. But I'm not too set on anything. I liked terran and zerg back in brood war, got decent at mutalisks. My macro is a lot better than my micro(unless my LoL playing has improved it... I doubt it though).

Honestly? My suggestion is to play the game. Play it, get a bit more familiar with it, then we can show you lots of good resources, etc. I think you are too early to be looking up outside stuff now. I'm not fully convinced, though, so others may disagree.
Really though, biggest way to play successful starcraft? Make workers and don't get supply blocked. BOOM Grand Master! :P
Yeah, I know playing the game is gonna be the best way to learn. I've been reading up on some things, and it looks like there's more resources in the game to help get me going than I thought. Practice mode, etc.
Again, "build more mans" is the best advise for a long time. But we really like theorycrafting and helping and such, so as you go ask lots of questions here. It gives us something to talk about besides "Terran OP" or "Protoss OP" :P

The meta has changed a lot, obviously. However, the meta isn't so important when you're just getting back into the game. The core units are all still there, and workers and pylons are still as important as ever. My suggestion would be jump into the Penny Arcade chat channel on the NA server and see who you run into. After the next couple of weeks go by, I'll be on much better Internet and playing with a lot less latency than I historically have, and when that happens I plan to seriously get back into SC2 in a big way, so I'll be playing a lot.

@Dhalphir When are you getting your new interwebs? a) so we can play Dota together, and b) so you can stomp me in SC2 and teach me the ways of the Brotoss.

Hey man, add me on bnet (DarkMecha#1533). I'm not very good and want to play! Perfect combination for you to boost your ego.
It would be really cool if we ended up say, having people regularly in a chat room on bnet so we could get some cool round-robin "I play winner" style rooms going. Sadly I think lack of interest and play times will prevent this. I remember back in the day there was a PA fighting game community irc chat room and we'd have round robin rooms like that in SFIV all the time. Was incredibly fun.

I heard it's the same as hearthstone. If they wipe stuff, and they probably will, you get a refund of gold equivalent to the amount of real money you spent

Confirmed just now that the money spent goes to your blizz account as blizz bucks. So if you're going to keep selling your soul it's not that bad.
Not 100% sure if this is default or only when it gets wiped. Assuming it's default at their price.

arg I can't recall what it was...
You can go to battle.net and log in from there with your pass, and I think from there you can see what your profiles are.

It was for disabling my authenticator because it was on a phone that got wiped, so I couldn't actually log in.

I like tourneys like this, smaller, online, really spices up who wins. tvz final already guaranteed, for example.

1. Play Zerg
2. Proxy hatch
3. Proxy hatch is a goal unto itself.
I consider mech to be the Terran forfeiting, since Swarm Hosts wreck it so well.

I semi-regularly play PA'ers who are a league or two higher than me as well, just to get a handle on what I need to be working on.

No, but I might be willing to participate in some dark rituals for an alpha key.

Or 5k gold. Haven't played the others so I can't compare.
And I'm waiting on confirmation if we get a full refund during alpha. Not spending a penny anyways.
