Oh yeah, don't let me kill discussion in that area. I just think we should just be clear about whether we're talking about how WE personally feel, or the general reality of things. I think that's how this discussion started anyway.
I think the disconnect comes when people equate the console selling poorly with it being a poor console.
The WiiU is a fantastic console, with a library of great games.

It just happens to be selling like an N-Gage.
Pretty much. It has a lot to offer, but it's selling like butts.
For me the new systems, this one included, is all about exclusives.
This is funny because I remember a lot of discussion in the past couple years about how the age of exclusives is over! How nobody could afford to do exclusives anymore, games are just too big and expensive to make to sell on one platform.
Third party exclusives are becoming rarer, but exclusives are still the reason why people buy consoles. They're just as important as ever.
Even little things like AC4 having exclusive content with the Liberation lady, that sold my friend on that version over any other.
Went out and bought a Wii U Zelda bundle tonight, as well as preordering the new Mario game. One huge problem though, can't get my system to connect to my router. Did the manually enter settings trick, no dice. Reset my router, no dice. Turned the security off, nadda.
Anyone have any suggestions, or other solutions?
Are you getting any kind of error code?

I've checked the Nintendo web site and gone through their solution, but still not working.

That's a false equivalency. When people talk about third party exclusives dying out, they mean just that. Third party. That doesn't mean that first party exclusives don't factor into a decision to buy a console.
No, I'm pretty certain there was a lot of discussion about how console exclusives, any of them, weren't going to be as important moving forward. Probably in the industry thread. Like I said it was a year or two ago.
Now that all the new consoles are coming out, I think they're all going to live or die by them.

First party games are extremely important now, especially since third party exclusives will pretty much be a thing of the past.
Now it's up to the console makers to get people to move to their consoles based on their in house games.
It's why, in my opinion, MS is in a difficult space. They have the weakest first party offering of the three. But then, they may end up with a large cross over of people who want to hang onto XBL as their main source of online gaming.
I personally think that the ports on the Wii U will almost always be the versions I want to play. Arkham City, for example. I played that first on the PS3, then on the Wii U, and much prefer the Wii U version for its extra features.
Stuff like ACIV is a harder sell, due to excised DLC, but I still love having a map on the second screen.
I'll buy a third-party game on thr PS3 or PS4 iff it's not available on the Wii U at all.

Arkham Origins I bought for PS3 but that was so my shelf was all in order, since I have the other versions on PS3.
The Lego games so far I'm getting for WiiU. I rebought Lego Batman 2, and I will be getting Lego Marvel for it. That way they'll look nice next to my Lego City.
I'm making my multi choices on a chase by cast basis.
As much as I love Forza, and that's the only really interesting exclusive game on the XBO, there was no way in hell I was ahelling out $600 on a game system. Like I said to the guy at Gamestop last night, it's always worth waiting six months to a year on a new system, which is what I am planning to do with the XBO.
As first party / exclusives go, neither of the two big systems are batting it out of the park. Lots of potential going forward though, and exclusives tend to be less important as you get further into a systems life.
Happy to have picked up a Wii U in the meantime, with a nice healthy back catalog to work through. Now if I could only get the damn thing to connect to the internet! Tonight feels like it's going t be consumed by trying to track down a LAN adapter instead of gaming though... *sigh*
I'll never understand why the 3DS and the Wii U have demos with limited uses. Then again, I haven't bought a new PES or FIFA in three years thanks to their demos...erm anyways time to check how bad the new Sonic game is.
Anyone think it's weird that Link to the Past isn't on the Virtual Console?
I'm still holding hope that this comes to the 3DS as well. I guess I wouldn't really mind playing it in the tablet if I could use the tablet controls. Anyone else think they may release this for the 3DS or WiiU VCs?

If the level in the demo is any indication, pretty bad.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 3DS release. There are no SNES games, and no GBA games outside of the ambassador thing. If they don't release it on WiiU this week, I have no idea when they'll do it. This is the last week that "makes sense".

So I'm thinking of buying Wii Party but I don't need any more Wii Remotes. Would anyone be interested in buying the remote that's bundled in Wii Party from me for $25 + shipping?
For the Wii U console exclusives are the only thing it has to offer.
That's not really fair, there are quite a few people who insist on buying the Wii U version of multiplatform games, and not just people who are already fans or people who are insistent on getting some use out of their console. Pad functions including off-screen play are a selling point, along with superior graphics if applicable.
Games like DXHR Director's Cut, Arkham City/Origins, CoDs, AC4, all of them I've seen quite a bit of enthusiasm for around the internet. True, the Wii U version won't be the highest selling one for the publisher, but you're talking about what the system offers to the users, and in that case the offerings are desirable.
Feel free to say console exclusives are the primary thing it has to offer to most people, of course. And feel free to express doubt that third parties will continue to offer games like these in the future! But for now, it does offer more than exclusives.

Of course, if you just look at the sales and ignore the personal opinion aspect of it, yes, the WiiU had a terribad year. Hopefully they can right that ship.
It would suck if we never got another Lego City though. Make a multi-platform sequel if you have to recoup costs, but don't let that beautiful little thing die! There was a sequel hook, man!

Or a 'best of NES' disc based game? Please Nintendo, I would buy NES compilation discs in a heartbeat.

For the Wii U console exclusives are the only thing it has to offer.
In regards to sales success (or lack thereof), absolutely.
In regards to software quality and availability, that's subjective.
