Risk of Rain is an action platformer/adventure game with randomized elements. While we don’t want to spoil the story, we can let a few things through! The game is set in the distant future, where space transportation is common. Space trains carry passengers and goods all across space. A particular space train, however, had some very special cargo. Through a series of unfortunate events, this space train gets shot out of orbit and crash lands on a mysterious planet.. with one survivor.
Yeah this game has been a ton of fun, but its also incredibly hard. I still haven't beaten it and only made it to the final level once. (also they really need to change the last teleporter options around, advance to the final level should be on the same key/button as normal not switched so you accidentally end up looping back to stage 1 and get stomped because of the difficulty level)

I'm finding the difficulty is definitely about finding how to use your class right. The huntress is easy as hell, but the other guys you have to plan with the abilities how to deal with stuff. The miner is a great example; you should practically never be using crush if the enemies get too numerous. Run in circles with your dashes and your jumps, group the mobs up, and AoE them to death. If I could just get the Mercenary to cooperate with me, he is kind of the same deal. A lot of bunching them together and AoE.
My only solo medium finish is with Acrid so far. I could definitely do it with the Huntress, but that seems like a boring thing to do.
Just got to level 3, hoo boy you guys aren't kidding when you say this is tough. Finally unlocked a second class but I have no idea what conditions I met in order to do that.
I've managed to unlock the Bandit and the Enforcer so far. Not huge on the Bandit, but getting five Lights Out kills in a row makes him stupidly damaging.
I think the Commando is still my favourite. That roll.
It's worth noting that if you want to unlock classes almost every class can be unlocked on Easy, and it's a great way to get comfortable with the game.
I've never seen a monster log drop on easy so I don't think the Huntress actually unlocks on it. The Bandit also requires medium. Every other character can be gotten on Easy.
I like the Enforcer except for the dumb shield thing basically being suicide. Tried using it against a wall as per the suggestion and was promptly devoured. I do love how the shotgun blasts auto-pierce though.
Enforcer is a bit feast or famine item wise. Either you get useful stuff like on kill effects and tankiness so that your AOE shotgun blast murderises everything or you get shafted and have to hobble around failing to kite things.

He definitely feels better in co-op.
Also getting magma worm on enforcer is the worst.
A lot of classes shine when playing in co-op. Sniper and enforcer are two great examples; pretty lackluster solo, but together, they can kill a world's worth of monsters.

Have you flashbanged the Magma Worm before? Those things hit four or five times with each shot and rip the Worm to pieces.
Oh yeah, Enfforcer can multi hit the worm with just the shotgun too. The issue is though that it's a pain in the ass to dodge with how slow you are so it's a bit of a DPS race at times.

Holy shit, that end boss. I don't even want to imagine that fight if you don't have the right upgrades at the right strengths; all status effects do nothing, absolute SHIT-TON insane amount of HP, and it's a three-stage fight. Seriously, if I hadn't gone into the fight with 2000+ HP and something like a garden regen times six that gave me 600+ HP a hit (though having to stand still for it, but even just 4-5 seconds and I'd get most of my health back), no damn way would I have made it through that guy. Also very not cool that he has basically no cooldown times on his attacks, so after you dodge the first attack with a roll, you're just going to eat the rest. And that's after I had something like 2-3 movement speed boosts. And then later on, he doubles and triples the attack spam with tracking attacks and shadow duplicates that you can't hurt.
Kind of a stupid boss fight, actually, since all the great stuff you've built up to fight mobs is mostly useless against him; no slowdown, no freezing, no resurrected ghosts to fight for you, no kills to generate AOE damage zones, nothing. Makes me think of the DnD rule of thumb for designing fights, which is that you use more enemies, not stronger enemies, to make for great fights. Damage sponges are just tedious to fight after the first 10 minutes or so; would've far rathered a boss with half the health and shitloads of enemies for a massive brawl.
One thing I can recommend for the later game is to hope for a drop for the Drone Repair item and to keep it the rest of the game. Drones were a HUGE help for me, and not being able to keep them up because of no cash hurt me bad at the end. They're a huge help in kiting enemies and piling on damage, so make a collection of them and keep them running.

Ah yeah, that's true. Usually what happens for me is that I park my ass in a corner as soon as I hit the teleporter and then just start blasting away. Everything ends up spawning right in that one spot so I start leveling like crazy which helps keep me up on top of whatever items I've got.

This is sort've the opposite of my experience with the final boss. I've only beaten the game once, on normal, with the huntress. At no point during the fight was I above 500hp, and I spent big chunks of it around 200. I have no illusions that Repulsion Armor didn't carry my ass.
I want the miner, but man either the pathway is blocked off, or the mini boss guy doesn't spawn when his area is finally available.
Miner is now the last class I need to unlock. one thing to note though, the variant of the magma barracks with lava on the very very bottom will have the pathway in the normal location, but damn if that miniboss is chicken and wont 1v1 me.
edit: Just realized there's 4 player co-op, but the game scales with the number of players. Devious.
4 player? I thought it went up to 10.
Great game. I finally got the Miner, so now I have all the classes unlocked. I'm working on unlocking the rest of the items (some of them are crazy hard to unlock), and when I want a break from that I'm doing solo sniper runs.
I had an epic solo run with the Huntress earlier today. Almost two hours. Revisited 3 old stages before moving on to the last stage. SO MUCH STUFF. By the end of it I was at over 4k hitpoints, with lots of healing and armor items. Notice the 7 teddies? 4 scarves for dodging too. So much good stuff. I was unstoppable, and it felt SO GOOD.

It's not just 4-player, but many-player. Funny how four people seem to have become the unconscious assumption whenever we read "co-op" And it's important to note that the number of items and gold spawning isn't scaled by the number of players, and any gold picked up is automatically divided equally between players, so each individual player will gain gold much more slowly. The piggy bank item applies to all players equally though, making it a bit of a wealth multiplier in MP runs.
I actually managed to beat the game on normal in coop; myself as the Huntress and my friend as the Engineer.
The trick seems to be making sure that everyone has roughly the same amount of items. Having one person with a ton of shit and everyone else with 5 items just means you're playing solo with harder monsters.

It was six months old at the time I made this one.
We got some multiplayer going, went pretty well until the literal swarms where everywhere.

This game is awesome! I'm about 65% complete with unlocks. Beaten it twice, the huntress is amazing. We should get some co-op going.

I'm having a blast with it even though I have only beaten one level so far. I almost got through that second teleporter...

Bandit and the like was normal/monsoon though.
I like Sniper though he's awfully hard solo, I think Commando is still my favorite to play, him or Miner.

Survived for 61 minutes, at which point it spawned a boss every five seconds.

I do agree that a drone repair is invaluable.

Find the Robot Janitor, Clear a path for the Survivor, and Free the Chained Creature are all level specific finds
Steam guides have numerous guides showing how and where to unlock all classes.

Hold the line.
That would be something, synchronized shield bash and stun nades.
