Just had some fun games with @WingedWeasel . We lost 1 and won 2, I think? Last game we had Salce in our party (I hopped on his Twitch stream and confirmed afterward =P). Haven't tried out Rehgar yet, but it's sad to not have all of Brightwing's talents unlocked anymore after playing a bunch of games with her before the patch.
i dunno, this sounds very much like a blizzard decision after what mop was when it came out.
hey guys, do you like dailies? do you like having to run an absurd amount of dailies every day just to unlock badge vendors?
well do i have an expansion for you!
i'd be fine with these unlocks taking 4 games, one for each step. but tying it to xp which can be huge or tiny depending on how long the game went is silly. i mean, the whole system is silly once your player level is at a certain point and maybe you can be trusted to not be babysat, but even still.
Back in my fucking day, dailies used to require you to walk up to NPCs and "/whisper task" to them. Sometimes they'd have a jerb for you, most of the time they just told you who to go to for a jerb. ONE JERB. And we liked it.

Back in my day the only options for online games were Meridian 59, BBS door games and the abusively expensive ImagiNation Network. And we didn't complain!
(Though we probably would have if we knew what we'd have access to today)

So it feels like most people just used their whole huge gold stimulus package to buy a crap-ton of heroes. This is the most "even mixed" games I have ever had. I feel like I'm playing with a full open roster instead of a weekly rotation.
i've only played so far on murky, diablo, and arthas. fortunately i have everything unlocked so i haven't had to slog through it again. i am dreading doing that on the other heroes. i often jumped around when not in PA games, and this is going to put a serious damper on that.
i get the talent gating in the abstract, but as many (MANY) other have said it makes sense tied to account level, not hero level. maybe.
artifacts still seem dumb, although i admittedly only played a few games overall (maybe 10?). as mentioned it was with 2 tanks and murky. for the tanks I went some combination of:
and for murky
ability cooldown
something i can't remember
move speed
i can only assume everyone else had the max move speed also since i never felt like i was catching anyone or pulling away. even with the "live forever" diablo build it honestly didn't seem to make a a discernible difference. maybe it did for my opponent's? in which case if i (as the user) don't notice, and only my (probably frustrated) opponent's notice...that's bad. if NO ONE notices...why do they even exist? maybe as i play with them move it will become more apparent, but it just seems like wasted time designing, programming, unlocking, selecting, etc. there is no benefit that i can see for their existence.
i see no depth added by including them at the moment. maybe at higher levels of play a specific artifact build will cause a certain comp to be created? i dunno. just seems...well as mentioned already, a waste. i'll keep trying them out but there's a big hill for them to climb before i see any value in the artifact system.
@Xerink definitely solid games. PA games are almost always solid.
He's literally the only support without any sort of direct attack spell.
Running guys down as ghostwolf with a lightning shield on is good enough for me. I'm having a lot of fun with him. The ghostwolf and the big giant heal make for some awesome bait tactics. First time I tried the big heal ult I didn't like it because it has a cast delay but after trying lust again and it's long ass cooldown. I've since gotten used to the delayed heal and it's pretty cool. I'll see how cool lust is again when I can actually upgrade it(ugh).
Still not sure which gem to use though. I took the + to healing and abilities thing but after playing a few games and seeing how much damage my melee does I might test the basic attack one(I already bought it for Hammer anyway). Clawing on mercs and running down wounded heroes as a wolf seems to happen a lot. I've ran down quiet a few kills already and only managed to get killed myself for it about half the time :P
So I like some of the artifacts, being able to put mana regen on something that didnt used to get it is neat.
Still not a fan of the new talent unlocking, too many games to get anywhere.
Part of what I hate about Reghar is how much punishment he can take, along with how easy it is for him to escape. It makes him absurdly hard to kill, particularly since Blizzard's design direction has been "poor self-support" for supports.

man nova is missing overdrive/crippling snipe and path of the wizard very badly. she's super mana starved even with the coin maxed out, and has a really hard time unleashing very powerful bursts in the midgame where overdrive used to be really useful. any warrior is nearly immune to her now, full burst combo on a 3/4ths health sonya at even level barely did half hp.
rewind based combos use basically her entire mana bar
Anyone at all have the new map come up in random rotation? I'm at 9 games played with 5 of them being Haunted Mines, 3 on Blackheart, and 1 on Cursed Hollow.
There's just something super un-fun about playing public games this patch. And I don't just mean artifacts/talent gating. It feels like borderline classes have just been broken, and other classes are just marginalized down with games going in favor of whoever has more Vallas/Hammers/Sonyas/Tassadars in the match.
Like, even beyond artifacts and talents, this is the thing that's going to make me stop playing.

alphas gonna be alpha. idk, on valla i only think strafe is broken, and it depends on your comp because some make strafe totally garbage but man it feels really broken when it totally goes off. tassadar is kinda in a similar boat with archon being pants on head, and it's harder to prevent it from killing you.
i don't think sonya is all that overpowered, and hammer just needs to have to choose between hover siege and graduating range as the combo is way too dumb.
Just completed the most aggravating game ever. Enemy team was Nova, Zeratul, Valla, Raynor, and ETC. They had so much burst it was unreal. It was a pickup game for me, but that felt like it had to be a premade we were up against. I was on Kerrigan, and they hunted me mercilessly across the map. They knew I was the biggest threat out of the random people on my team. I couldn't even leave my base without getting quadra-gang banged.
And to make it worse, ETC took Mosh Pit, and they had some perfect executions on stun+murder later in the game. Valla had Strafe and Nova had the Orbital Strike move, and there was one time where ETC caught 3 of us in Mosh Pit, and we basically all just immediately combusted from all the damage they put on us.
Overall, it seems like the time to kill a hero is greatly reduced due to artifacts. The extra damage from artifacts is already pretty nuts on an individual basis, but when you get heroes coordinating their high damage skills it's just crazy-go-nuts.
Unless you're a warrior, of course. Then you're invincible. I had a match as Diablo where 4 enemy heroes were trying to kill me and they chased me halfway across the map for 20 seconds before they finally got me. I swear I think I was even down a level or two.
But I'll take this nutty artifact imbalance for another month if they'd get rid of the talent gating. What talent does pretty much everyone always take at level 20? The upgrade for your ultimate, you know, because it's usually a game changer. What talent is locked down? Yeah.
hah oh dear god you wanna know the silliest shit ever? bloodlust on a team of zeratul/valla/tychus. we got annihilated in every teamfight post 10.
it's so incredibly value heavy for autoattackers i almost wonder if they tested it. and then i got lusted as nova and continued to plink away for nothing except 40% faster.
So I have some Sgt. Hammer and a particularly jackass Tyrael going on in the most broken English ever recorded in text about how I'm losing the game because I'm not following them around tunnel visioning teamfights all over the map. I'm the only one stopping the Zagara that's been single-handedly pushing the top lane the entire fight. They ignore my responses and just continue to go on about how I should be helping.
Alright, fine. I go to join them just to shut them up. What happens? Zagara and a pair of ogres kill our core while the rest of our team chases the others around the map.
I pretty much got man-handled by Zeratul as Illidan in lane. Worse, it meant I could never make use of the new "kill minions to gain attack power" talent.
Of course, the other option was the awful "regen globes = permanent HP regen" talent because TALENT GATING
The kill minions to get attack power talent is *awful*. If you spend the entire game just farming minions you might, if you are really good and do nothing else, get as much of a bonus as the old path of the assassin. Might. You will have lost because you are in lane the entire game instead of on objectives though!
Re. Pick up groups, I do think blizzard has missed something in the tutorial. The strongest play is clearly to have someone in each lane getting experience for your team for at least the first 5, if not 10 minutes of the game. Obviously you break out if objectives come up, but otherwise the experience you get from laning massively outweighs the paltry xp and time loss from ganking someone. I've played so many games where we kill a few people early on, but then lose because the other team have someone in each lane all the time and get a 3 level advantage on us.
Lucascraft, with that set-up it was either a pre-made group or the queue time for games was over 5 minutes. It's shouldn't be possible to get a random group with 4 assassins in it normally with the match-making system they have in place, so I suspect it was a pre-made as you say.
So Hammer is now officially broken. I take the +10% basic attack damage which makes the insane damage even more insane and then the life steal rune thing stacks with the vampiric assault talent and so...
insane damage + splash + insane life steal = OH GOD THE HEALING!
Late game any 1v1 belongs to hammer, sometimes 1v2. If not, then the bait/reversal factor is that much higher. Auto attack heals to full in no time.
In general i feel the artifacts really break autoattack heroes. Valla can be pretty broken too. I had a game where an enemy chained 3 heroes at me. I started at about 25% health and ended at about 40% with them all dead because I was healing faster than they could do anything to me from my 20 hatred stack
Wow, the one fucking time I get a decent arena draft, I get shit on by constructed level bullshit, like getting Alexed from almost full HP to dead on in one turn, and druid savage charge faceroll.
Tried out the 10% ability power, mana regen, and move speed artifacts on Zagara. With the bonus AP and mana regen, if you leave a Zagara in lane alone you are going to lose buildings. I can take a gate and a tower in a single wave at level 3 or 4.
In another game I 1v2 against Malfurian and Valla and stayed safe while farming, popping out to wipe a wave short of my tower, then back behind my gate. Never had any issues with wave clearing or mana, and if it weren't for the healing I probably would have harassed them out of lane.

This was such a monumentally boneheaded move (along with artifacts) that it just completely breaks any confidence I had in the devs.
