After losing my first Path of Exile Hardcore Character (RIP QuickMaddie), i decided to take a break from Wraeclast and play some other game.
I picked names out of a hat, basically, and got 5 games selected.
The Ball
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Assassin's Creed: Revolutions
Ys: The Oath in Felghana
Now, I started both Batman and KotOR without playing much and i got pretty far into Ys before giving up... But what's intriguing me is "The Ball".
I don't remember how or when I got it, or much of anything about it. Any strong opinions for or against that game?
Also, which game would you suggest i get on next?
TIA.
Ass:Rev and KOTOR are pretty long games. Batman:AA is relatively short and you owe it yourself to at least get to the first predator section (where dudes with guns show up). The downside is that if you are restarting the intro is pretty long (That endless walk).
I haven't played the ball but I understand it's an ok FPS with some puzzle elements, nothing really noteworthy.
KOTOR is interesting from a design POV and does nice things with Star Wars lore but the core combat is pretty outdated (It uses Star Wars d20, a D&D 3.5 spinoff at its base). It has some great characters though.

Hey, just got one of Jason Rohrer's sporadic update e-mails and it looks like The Castle Doctrine is coming to Steam and he wants everyone who's already bought it to try the latest build so he can squash bugs. Cool cool cool!
Definitely looking forward to that, mostly for the auto-updates. Haven't played TCD in quite a while because I'm too lazy to search for and download the updates on my own. Steam has spoiled me.

Free weekend on Skullgirls. I downloaded just to screw around briefly, as I've always liked fighting games. Just played with it for a few minutes and I must say their tutorials are fantastic. If you've never played a fighting game before this is the perfect way to get into it.
If I had a better controller I would probably be playing this all weekend but sadly my fightpad is no longer what it once was it's hard to go back to a 360 controller now. Not having six face buttons anymore is hard to wrap my brain around for a fighter. Not to mention the awful d-pad.
Seriously. These are the best tutorials I've ever seen.
Edit: On the other hand, the story final boss is just dumb.
I am now at 100 games on my wishlist! This thing has gotten unwieldy. I should probably trim it too as only the first 20 are the really solid ones. (though a winter sale would help with that!)
Age of Decadence was the 100th game, I am super intrigued by that one.

Age of Decadence looks super interesting, but since it's only 60% complete it seems like it went to early access too quickly. I've always thought that early access should be reserved for games that are complete, just lacking the final polish of a full release

Galaxy on Fire 2 HD seems pretty fun so far. It has Xbox 360 controller support built in and changes button prompts. Lots of stuff to upgrade on your ship, it looks pretty good, and seems to be pretty open ended a-la Privateer. It seems to have the usual mine or buy and sell cargo or do missions and blow people up stuff to do, with a fairly interesting story so far. The voice acting is okay, but nothing to write home about. It's certainly not bad, though, which it easily could have been. I haven't played too far into it, and will completely forget about it tomorrow (X: Rebirth), but it's definitely worth grabbing the Humble bundle for, on top of the other stuff in it.

How does the combat stack up to Strike Suit Zero, if you've played it? I got a few hours into SSZ but quickly found myself overwhelmed with the amount of killing I was supposed to be doing. While I do enjoy a bit of combat, I'd prefer to be either one of an armada of ship or be responsible for a few sneaky attacks. I don't like being the focus of an enormous scale conflict where I'm the lynchpin even though there are Dreadnaughts or Heavy Cruisers in the same fight.

There's a free version of this on the Android Play Store, fooled around with it for about an hour or so. Takes up 2 gigs of space, but thought I'd mention it for those intrigued by your description. Heck, I'll probably download it again, had space concerns at the time that are now resolved. Also, to bring this post back to Steam, how do you other people survive when you can't access Steam at work? Seriously, I think I'm going through withdrawal, with the shakes and the sweats and the general uncomfortableness...

I haven't played SSZ, but the combat so far (mostly tutorial stuff) has been pretty low key, only a handful of enemies. I don't see it ramping up as it's not a super fast game. You'll probably mostly be on your own (though I have done one fight with an ally), but it's your standard dogfighting, at least so far.

The only disappointing thing I've found so far is there were 2 DLCs released, but I guess the developer went bankrupt and they won't be released for the PC version.

F2P.
I'm sure there's dozens of F2P games on Steam and none of them have been permanently added to my library except this one.
It's amazingly, awesomely, bad. Absolutely no one involved with the voice acting can feign anything even approaching remote interest in the terrible, terrible script. The cut scenes wouldn't pass muster in the original KOTOR. The camera is incredible, actively spinning so you can't see enemies attacking you. The music is the same four notes over and over again. The gameplay is boring and the controls are janky.
I'm enjoying it immensely.
This is a wholly accurate assessment.
The camera - my goodness, this camera isn't just bad: it's actively hostile to the player. It hates you and wants you to feel disoriented at all times. It wants you to know there's an enemy just over there but it's not going to show you and you can't rotate or zoom it in any way.
The voice actors were, I believe, pulled from a high school drama club. One with 6 members and no ambition among them.
I'm in chapter five now, still enjoying it as quite possibly the worst game I've ever put this much time into.
I guess that I'll say this as a positive: there's an artist working on the game that probably deserves to be working on something better.
As for the camera... I have honestly never seen a camera quite so terrible, ever. Like, ever.
