I have an idea and it's something I have considered before, but I think it may work this time. Why not have both badges with them being randomly distributed? The names on the back will be the same, just one will be American and the other British. The receiver will not know which one they will get. What do you think?
Love the badge but not liking the idea of randomness to the one I get, given the choice I would prefer the British one and would be disappointed if I got the US one knowing there was a British one out there.
Yeah, I'm not too crazy about random badges either. That makes it a little more collection-ish then just showing off your participation in the community.
There's an increasing ambivalence towards the two parallel designs, so I've decided to go with the crossed-flag theme instead, with the lament/song written over the top of it in small script:

OMG !!! I want this now, not in 146 days from now ... amazing looking , keep up the awesome work Kropotkin
I kinda liked the British flag and the recruitment poster thing. The lyrics are very cool, though. And I'm good with either.
For @kropotkin - You were hesitant about having the British flag on this... While the American flag can definitely have some good or bad connotations associated with it, depending on who you are, the British flag is more of an icon these days in America. So IMHO, the British flag is fun and interesting and I like it.
For everyone else - The song he linked to is from Sharpe, which is a very very (very) good 90s show with Sean Bean in it. It was the first thing I ever saw him in. If you get a chance, watch it. There are like 18 different mini-movies (Sharpe's Rifles, Sharpe's Eagle, etc), if I remember correctly (but I may be totally off, and am too lazy to wikipedia it).
Personally I prefer the recruitment poster, without the flags (though I don't mind them, I find them a bit distracting, and there's very little evidence that the 13-star flag was used prior to 1777). Both versions of the recruitment text (Loyalist and Patriot) are fantastic so I'd want to embrace that idea -- perhaps with a tasteful woodcut image as were often featured at the time? It would be REALLY awesome to figure out a way to do something game-related in woodcut form, but that might be more work than is worth it.
Either way, the song ends up being pretty small and not as funny if you aren't already familiar with the original.
So, if you're open to backtracking a bit (and I'm not going to get shouted down by flag-and-song-parody-lovers everywhere) then that would be my preference, recognizing with all humility that I'm just standing at the back of the classroom throwing spitballs at the guy doing all the work.
My preference would be to use the updated recruitment poster design posted on 11/12, and possibly have the option for the British variant, if that wouldn't be going overboard with materials.
I tend to be a less-is-more type of guy, and I felt those iterations hit the sweet spot in that regard.
However, I do appreciate the creativity that's gone into the changes since, and will gratefully rock the badge no matter what.
Quick question: travelling with daughter who will be attending forum events with me but she obviously is not active in the forums ... will there be blank badges for our +1 peeps ?????? to fill out?
PAX East 2016 .... gots my Passes [x] Hotel [x] Flights [x] Packed [..] .... ok we're all good !!!!!

I don't believe that there has ever been a shortage of badges.
Looks great! Personally, I prefer the recruitment style one(s)(American specifically, because, well.), but it would appear I'm in the minority of that count. The song (which I am familiar with) only really has any impact if you're already familiar with the original, whereas the recruitment posters were fairly straight forward. /shrug. As always, YMMV.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's very difficult to please everyone and I got a lot of push back against the idea of having a British and American version of the badge. Interestingly the first ever Forum badge did have a Commonwealth variant! It was inspired by the film Zulu with Michael Caine seeing 'Nerds, thousands of 'em'. It's a variant on the a famous quote from the film. Anyway I'll see what I can do to make a British only flag as people seem to be preferring that more than the American one. For we Brits the sight of the Union Flag has mixed messages as we spend our time apologising for our imperial past!
Be that as it may I can see the irony of PAX East attendees wandering around with the Union Flag and the words 'God Save the King' emblazoned across a large badge
I'm Canadian and a Newfoundlander so we still have ties to the Queen and the Union Jack was our provincial flag until around 1980 so I'm pretty comfortable either way you want to go lol

Just wait, you'll end up with the common greeting when you see a forum badge being "God Save the King".

If we combined that with the British armed forces salute it would be hilarious!
