Can I ask about food? Are there places to eat at pax or should we plan to leave to grab lunch/dinner and rush back in between panels/games/being awesome?
I am not Yug, but I don't believe tickets begin to be mailed out until 3-4 weeks prior to PAX. He can certainly give a better time frame than me, however, but I wouldn't have expected to get them before now.
I thought I heard people had started getting them already, I could be mistaken though. Thanks Zerzhul
It's certainly possible that some have, but I wouldn't call it near worry time yet.

All I can go by is what they had last year, which was a stack of food trucks operating throughout the show. There is also the food courts and restaurants at Crown Casino within easy walking distance.
Further east along the bank of the Yarra River and within walking distance is the South Bank area with restaurants and pubs. Or take a tram from outside Jeff's Shed (PAX Aus venue) into the CBD or you can go further afield.
There are so many food options near the MCEC versus last year's location of the Showgrounds.

Awesome. The reason I ask is I'm from a small QLD town with not many food options so I'm going to plan out when I'll have the chance to go to certain yummy places down there. I don't want to miss anything at PAX so I guess I'll just leave those Lunches and Dinners as blank for the moment and use whats nearby and then plan food visits outside of PAX times

There is a wide variety of restaurants and I'd suggest Google is your friend. Melbourne sprawls over 40km in some directions so travel times by public transport (bus, tram and/or train) can be significant. Some of the more obscure are in the suburbs e.g. Ethiopian food from the Gebe African Restaurant in the suburb of Dandenong. One source of reviews is the Age Good Food Guide from the Age Newspaper then you can make appropriate plans.

For food options, I would suggest checking out the PAX Promenade this year, which is a series of restaurants and bars where you flash your PAX badge and you get 10% off.
Also, tickets were mailed last week, so everyone can expect them to arrive in the mailboxes this week
I've received my BYOC pass by Registered Post but there were only instructions for waiting in the Queue Room. Is there a separate entrance for people carrying desktop PCs and monitors or do we queue with everybody else in the Queue Room?
Will there be another queue for testing power cords this year?
I've received my BYOC pass, etc., but not my 3 Day pass. The 3 Day pass confirmation letter is not the same as the BYOC confirmation letter and I've just discovered it requires ticket pickup (this was bought late via the enforcers pass refund process). Can I pay to get this ticket mailed out or will a printout of the confirmation letter get me through the BYOC queue and be issued with a three day pass?
Or do I have to queue in the Queue Room for my 3 Day pass then get a passout to get the computer gear from the car to re-enter PAX Aus to setup in the BYOC area?
I've tried ringing the different Customer Service numbers but they are going off into someones voicemail queue.
Tried the Customer Service number again as there was no callback to my voicemail and now have received some answers.
Ticket collection is separate from the queue to enter the venue plus it will open early so that you can collect your ticket then join the queue. In the case of BYOC passes you pickup your ticket and BYOC Pass then take your car to the appropriate loading dock. Instructions on the loading dock etc., will be emailed out to all BYOC holders but that email has not been sent at this stage. Might be a minor hiccup if you buy a BYOC pass on eBay.
All the tickets have been sent and it is too late to have any changes made to ticket pickup.
Correct, Registration\will-call has historically been open Thursday afternoon so people can get their passes and be ready for Friday morning. Exact times will likely be published closer to the date.
Last year at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds there was a car parking area set aside for the BYOC card holders. Are there any parking spaces dedicated or set aside for BYOC this year in the MCEC car park?
Last year at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds car parking was $10 per day for up to 24 hours. Is there any discount parking for BYOC card holders? If the loading dock is not opening until 9:00am which is effectively the end of the Earlybird rate then it appears on Friday we will be charged $48.00 for parking. Assuming a BYOC holder is on site for more than 4 hours will we have to pay $48.00 to Wilson Parking?
Looking at the MCEC web site it says:
1. MELBOURNE EXHIBITION CENTRE PARKING
1060 undercover parking spaces available, managed by Wilson Parking. Entrance and exit off Normanby Road. Open 24 hours, seven days a week
Fees (weekdays including public holidays):
0.0 - 1.0 hour $12.00
1.0 - 2.0 hour $24.00
2.0 - 3.0 hour $36.00
3.0 - 4.0 hour $48.00
4.0 + hours $48.00 max
Lost ticket $50.00
Evening rate
Monday to Thursday: $14.00, entry from 6.00pm and exit before 6.00am the next day. Casual rates will otherwise apply.
Friday: $18.00, entry from 6.00pm and exit before 6.00am the next day. Casual rates will otherwise apply.
Weekend rate
$18.00, per exit, per day. Casual rates will otherwise apply.
Earlybird rate
Monday to Friday: $15.00 entry between 6.00 – 9.00am and exit between 3.00pm - midnight. Casual rates will otherwise apply.
Please note - All MCEC car park patrons will be directed to car park Door 1 during overnight closure (8.00pm – 6.00am), to access the external areas of South Wharf Promenade.
Assuming we have entered the loading dock area and unloaded. How do we move our equipment into the BYOC area i.e. will trolleys be provided? Do we have direct access to the BYOC area or do we have to move the equipment from the loading dock then queue with our gear at Door 7 Roller Door at the rear of Bay 13? Or are the references to Door 7 on the BYOC instructions meant to be Door 7 on the exhibition map that appears to be on the opposite side of Bay 13 to the Roller Door? If access is via the Roller Door 7 then I suggest you add 'Roller Door' to the BYOC instructions at the appropriate spots and update the drawings with a 'Roller Door 7' (from the loading dock area and a 'Door 7' from the main concourse.
BYOC guy here. It would be handy if I could nab an early bird park under MCEC, take my computer up and set it up. Is that possible? Happy to arrive early (ie before 9am) grab breakfast then go back to my car at 9:30am or whatever and take my PC up.

Where and when can I pickup my 3-Day ticket so that I access the MCEC and install my gear? Can I obtain my 3-Day ticket before 9:00am? If I grab an Earlybird parking spot but don't have my 3-Day ticket can I use my own trolley to move my gear up to Door 7 (Main Concourse) and use the BYOC ticket to gain access early to setup gear?
@pdp11 and @jazzy, I suspect some of those questions were answered in the BYOC email that was sent to all those who bought the badges. If someone else bought your badge, they would have received it. It sounds like it went out about 3 days ago.
Do they open "Merch Booth Lite" before they let everyone into the main hall? Can we purchase stuff while we wait in line, or do we need to form another line for that or hows that work?
Would like to grab some pins as soon as I can. Plan to get there early.

I did receive the BYOC email and it doesn't cover some details. There hasn't been an answer regarding the procedure to pickup tickets prior to the event. My BYOC ticket has been mailed out but my three day pass is pickup only. Therefore I have a problem where I can not get access to the area to setup my PC until I have my three day and the BYOC pass. Other questions have not been covered in the BYOC email i.e. reserved car parking area, Earlybird parking, availability of trolleys to move equipment, etc., etc.

Ahh, registration\will-call is usually open open Thursday afternoon as well as early morning Friday. I'm not positive if the exact hours have been given out anywhere yet. So you can get your actual pass before you need it.
There is no special parking arrangement this year for BYOC people. Its doubtful there will be trolleys to move equipment provided by PAX, but its possible some other BYOC person may have one you could borrow, maybe not likely, but possible.

Thursday ticket pickup will work for me and save a lot of grief on the day but I haven't seen an announcement yet.
To escape the $48.00 parking charge on Friday I'll be trying for Earlybird parking prior to 9:00am. Guess I'll access the BYOC area via the Door 7, Main Concourse or Roller Door 7 from the loading dock area by wandering around like a lost sheep on the day.
I had suggested after last years show the organizers provide a trolley (possibly 'chained' to an Enforcer) to assist BYOC setup but this looks unlikely to happen this year. I'll be using my own small collapsible trolley to move my gear from the car park. As there is no co-ordination and I'm not an Enforcer (unfortunately had to turn the offer down) I expect there would be problems with MCEC Security if I'm in the Loading Dock area unsupervised for an extended time.
In 2013 a BYOC parking area was provided and it had a reasonable $10.00 parking fee. Most BYOC people are unlikely to be city workers, will not expect a $48.00 parking fee and not know how to minimize parking charges at the MCEC. In the email to BYOC pass holders it would have been appropriate to highlighted the parking fees and suggested some strategies to minimize them.
@PDP11, I'd keep an eye out for the feedback thread after PAX is over, sounds like you have some good feedback, and putting it in there will make sure its seen by the right people.
Do they open "Merch Booth Lite" before they let everyone into the main hall? Can we purchase stuff while we wait in line, or do we need to form another line for that or hows that work?
At east Merch Lite opens at about 9am, It seems reasonable it would do about the same here. The line for it will likely start as soon as the main outside doors open.
You would have to leave the queue line to shop, or preferably shop before you hit the queue room line.
Merch lite at East has all of the PAX exclusive stuff (including pins) and a few other things. Main merch has everything (including PAX exclusives). At least until stuff starts selling out later in the weekend and they start consolidating. I don't know if Aus will follow that example but it seems likely.
Was curious as to the weapon/prop policy. I have a prop that measures 1.8m in length that follows the rules that are posted in the FAQ and mentioned here (not sharp enough to break skin etc), but because of its size I'm worried that it may not be allowed. Would I be able to get an estimate on whether it would be accepted?
And if at the door it isn't accepted is there anywhere I would be able to put it if I were catching the train there? Such as in the donation paid cloakroom?

So Merch lite at 9am, and Main Merch when the show starts at 10am? Just want to make sure...
@Pipman Size is not usually a problem, just be aware of how big it is, especially in the expo hall and in crowds. We have had RUBY cosplayers with this same style prop at previous PAXen with no problem. Feel free to use the coat check to store it for a bit if you're headed into crowded area's. Also that looks mighty pointy. I assume those are soft? If those points are hard it will probably be denied.
@ayefkay I have not talked to Brian so don't take that as 100%, but its a best guess based on what has happened at previous PAXen. He also in the past has sometimes opened before 9am, and has occasionally been delayed when technical issues prop up. Main Merch is inside a hall, it seems likely they would keep people out of the hall completely until 10am.
Hello. Im not really sure where to contact about this so ill try here..
Stayed in a hotel last night to get to pax early and over night my car has been broken into and my 3 tickets (and computers irrelevent to what im asking) have been taken as well as my girlfriends friday pass. I would very much like to still attend but am unsure of what to do. Can you give me any information on what i may do

I'm assuming the entrance to the convention centre is where the red pin is right? Will I have to walk around the entire thing to get in?

There's entrances all along the building, you just walk in the end near the Hilton, jump on a Sedgeway and hoon down the hallway to the queue room.
