From the talk earlier I wanted to go through and do a quick assessment of each job boss's personality, evil, not evil, etc.
I'm only at the end of chapter 4 so I don't have full information on a couple of the last ones.
People who are most obviously evil, selfish, sadistic: 9
White Mage - vain, self-centered, seems sadistic.
Monk - violent, brutal.
Black Mage - very sadistic and obsessed with destruction.
Merchant - completely evil and corrupt.
Time Mage - completely evil and corrupt.
Red Mage - probably the most evil person in the game.
Salve-Maker - completely evil, self-centered and sadistic.
Arcanist - completely evil and sadistic.
Spiritmaster - completely evil and sadistic.
People who seem evil but have some sort of justification, valid or not: 4
Knight - "just following orders" but seems to relish them, despite their brutality.
Thief - does not seem to be overly sadistic. Mostly bitter at the world due to his past, and thirsty.
Ranger - feral, but probably wasn't evil before being poisoned into madness.
Summoner - insane, but probably wasn't evil before being poisoned into madness.
People who probably aren't outright evil, generally honorable or following orders: 10
Spell Fencer - despite doing anything for money, appears to have a personal code of honor. Like the party could totally hire him.
Valkyrie - seems to be a competent, honorable commander just following orders.
Performer - vapid and self-centered, but seems dumb more than anything else. Just a celebrity.
Pirate - seems like a decent enough guy, seeking adventure while advancing his nation's cause. Seriously did we even hear about him killing a single person?
Swordmaster - seems to be a competent, honorable commander just following orders.
Ninja - another person just following orders, though assassination is pretty underhanded.
Templar - don't know the full story yet but seems well-meaning, though with brutal methods. Poor leadership to allow so many awful people into his high ranks.
Dark Knight - seems like a decent person following orders.
Vampire - seems mostly good now, but has led a brutal, vengeful life killing many people.
Conjurer - seems like a good person, though he is LECHEROUS.
What do you think.
Pretty accurate.
I'd maybe argue Monk, he may just like to fight and is like that toward enemies. He seemed more dumb and wanting to test his strength than actually evil.
That's true.
Sort of along the lines of the pirate, only dumber. Just a big lug.
Victor has some backstory that makes him not completely evil.
He just ultimately ended up completely dedicated to Victoria because he prolonged her life, but he can't save her, but he can't let himself let her die. But he and his father were instrumental in setting up the white magic amplifiers to help the Eternian people and scolded Holly White for standing around and watching the construction and not helping. I'd throw him in with the Ranger, Summoner, Knight and Thief.
I didn't think I could assume that was true. Even though it's as good an explanation as any for her painful bouts and the healing chamber thing, I also thought it was obvious they were stalling for time with that story. I totally expected him to say "haha, you believed all that nonsense? Nah, I don't even really know her that well. She's not even a child, she's a corrupted cryst-fairy. The chamber just powers her up so it's easier to kill you."
I also wondered if maybe it would turn out she was the vestal of earth the whole time or something, so Agnes would have to struggle with the thought of killing a fellow vestal.
I've been having fun renaming all my specials and attack comments. I believe the last one I sent out was called, "No Money?". You'll have to summon it yourself to see the answer!

I renamed a couple so I remember to use them on Undead/Demons.
I have started changing the catchphrases though, the first one was Edea's: 'MRGRGR!'
I'm kind of surprised that the nemesis battles use a remix of Four Heroes of Light's normal battle theme, when they originally had their own theme that was only ever used for them.
Edea is literally the best. I know Agnes is the ~main~ heroine or whatever, but it really feels like Edea's story a lot of the time, and Agnes is just there to awaken some crystals or whatever.

Halfway through chapter 1 I surrendered and made Edea my lead character for overworld walkin'. I knew it must be done.
Well, it's kinda hard to have a story when your village gets eaten by the earth in the first minute of the game. I mean we could totally have rich interpersonal relationships with Tiz's family and friends... if they weren't all dead. Or we could explore how his work conflicts with his morality, except he was a shepard. Not the most stressful of jobs. Maybe he wanted adventure despite being stuck tending sheep! Right, he ends up getting that when his village activates that trap card and gets destroyed.
I'd argue he actually beats Vaan in terms of story relevance. Tiz's village is destroyed as a direct result of what the hell's going on, resulting in his quest to find out wtf is up. Vaan, on the other hand, is just kinda there. He's got zero connection to the story going on other than randomly running into the other PCs. If 12's dev team had any sense, it would've been Balthier/Ashe/Basche in the lead role and Vaan+Penello would've been NPCs. Possibly even unnamed extras.
At least, from what I recall of 12. I admit freely I dropped it about halfway through due to bored.
Probably a stupid question, but I'm pretty stumped at this point.
What do I need to do to open the locked chests? I haven't seen any keys or key like items around, either for sale or dropped. I tried putting a thief as my party lead (figured "hey, it's a thief, who else would pick locks?) but no dice, even tried making a party of thieves, but still they remain locked.
So, am I doing something wrong, or are they all progress locked requiring me to get to a specific part in the game before I can open them? Progress wise, I'm fairly early into chapter 2.
just finished looting investigating the abandoned water crystal temple. Yeah, I'm pretty slow.

I can't open them yet either, but in Final Fantasy I has locked chests all over the place and then gives you a key late in the game that lets you backtrack and open them all, so I figure it's probably just that.
Braev, kamiizumi,Alternis ,and Derosso seem okay. Even poor Victor was driven insane by his fathers actions.
The rest are clearly mercenaries Braev had to use or are blindly loyal to the point of ignorance. he even admits he hoped Edea would knock some sense into the sky knights.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

What's wrong with
the valkyrie? She reminds me of the swordmaster essentially. Right down to telling Edea she needs to seriously talk with her father.
Guess what. For the entire game, all secret passages are behind foreground walls, where if there was a passage you wouldn't be able to see the opening so it kind of makes sense.
Except all of a sudden in chapter 4 where you have to just straight up walk through a solid window that you would've never considered to try and makes you waste a ton of time looking all over the place and isn't infuriating at all.

I will spoil it for EVERYONE. West window, first floor of Everlast Tower.
Thanks for the heads up, that's precisely where I'm headed next. First I need to finish my money grinding though - I've got it set on auto-battle and I'm making roughly 25k every minute, assuming no stretches of particularly bad luck when Chomp's 50% activation rate doesn't go off often enough. Leaving it on that while I watch a couple episodes of True Detective, figure after that I should have more than enough to buy a Growth Egg and still not worry about money for most of the rest of the game.
Bad news: I am poor right now. Suuuuper broke. So BD was like, not even on my list but was totally on my radar, and everyone in Steam chat is non-stop having fun with it, I was super jelly this last week. Good news: I forgot about my Nintendo Deluxe promotion for the WiiU and had EXACTLY 40 dollars in gift cards waiting for me. JACKPOT! Great news: I am downloading this game right now and suuuuuuper happy!
Everything's coming up Milhouse!
P.S. I have no idea how the friend system works in BD or whats going on, but I will gladly share my friend code when this is finished downloading. ( Can't access my FC while it's downloading. )
So, is there any reason they didn't slap a Final Fantasy title on this game?
Did they just feel like the franchise title was getting too diluted or something? (Which is kind of funny, because this game is ridiculously more Final Fantasy than most of the games that have held the title recently)

I heard that they thought it didn't have much to do with the way the series has developed in recent years, and modern fans would be confused. Something like that.
To be honest I could almost see that. "Hey this says Final Fantasy on the cover, but I'm 50 hours in and I haven't seen Lightning yet and nobody has yelled 'Serah.' What gives?"

I suppose I can kind of see that, but I swear to god a lot of the time this game feels like a direct sequel to the DS Final Fantasy III remake.

Why the fuck can confused characters use the Run command? Like, that is colossal levels of stupid.

What's wrong with
His part in the story is to be a more down-to-earth Tidus.
Also, I am totally in love with this game. It is everything I love about classic Final Fantasy.
I...I...I feel light-headed.
I need to sit down for a while.
Vaan's story, such as it is, is Clan Centurio, and has nothing to do with the actual game story, sadly.
