Entire lead-up to the Earth Crystal, with mailed dragons and daedalus and earth spirits
is some red hot bullshit. Enemies hit like trains and give almost no experience/ JP for the levels I'm at. If they weren't giving good cash I'd turn off battles altogether and just walk my ass through here
As it is I'm seriously considering giving Edea the ability that lets her ignore the enemy's Default....

You don't have any attacks that do that anyways?
Well, to be honest I said fuck it and turned off encounters, because grinding outside town was so good.
Yeah, in that case just set Pierce Default. Templar is amazing though. Giant Killer is basically 16 MP to do 50% more damage, Radiant is 50% more, light element, pierce default, Rampart is basically party-Utsusemi...
I can't bring myself to turn encounters off. I love job leveling too much. Can't turn off exp either. It's a curse.
Hell I think it took me two or three playthroughs to turn off encounters in FF VIII, a much more annoying game about it because of load times and making enemies stronger.
I am getting REAL ULTIMATE POWER though. Ablink with my Ringabell if you need a mastered monk for whatever reason.
Monk is without a doubt the best class for the first few chapters. It's kinda like a what if world 1 of FF V just never ended. Unlike FF V they are a dangerous but oh so powerful option in chapters 4 and 5 while in FF V they are one of the worst classes in world 3.

So I just started the demo and after scanning the thread I'm assuming I'm right in the fact that you need to just grind like crazy
I walked to the south dungeon and got instantly annihilated

Brave more. A ton of crap in the demo desert is weak to ice. you can also assign B/W magic to everyone without making them a red mage, so go and buy blizzard and cure.
Got 200% Physical Attack, 150% Magical Attack, 120% hit count, Firaga sword mastery, more speed, and threw it all on Petal Dance, with Light, +50%, Undead Slaying, and... Blind, probably?
And, uh
I hit it hard enough to kill it twice
So tomorrow I should be about to send out an attack that does 178870 to you guys. Even if you use it against something that's not weak to it in any way, that'll ruin pretty much anyone's day
And that's just level 52. The possiblities for what could be done at higher levels make me wonder....

So far I've found that the game is so nice about making world map enemy parties all weak to the same element.
I usually just give two or three of my people sword magic and the fourth Acrobatics.

Makes for great JP grinding.
As of Chapter 5, that seems to be the only thing keeping fights remotely fair.
What happens if you skip out on a sub-scenario, are they all still accessible in future chapters?
I'm in Chapter 5, and kind of want to advance the story a bit, but worried if I push too far into the story I somehow end up in Chapter 6 without being able to complete the Chapter 5 Sub-scenarios
So I may have gotten sucked into watching all 4 episodes of True Detective while my money making loop was running, and I'm now sitting on over 8 million PG. I don't even know what to do with that much money, although I made it a point to buy one of every Norende equipment since I obviously have the cash to burn.
Ooh, I need to check out all the different costume options, I think I forgot to buy those.
Edit: Huh, they're certainly interesting. I actually quite like Ringabel's, but I'm not sure about the other 3, and even then I'm not sure I'd want to give up the job specific outfits. Except on Time Mages, those can just disappear quietly and never return.

Oh god. This is just the best thing for maxing all the jobs in Chapter 5. Any job, this works awesome.
Second Ability : Dark Arts
- Sword/Katana/Spear/Axe Lore
- Two-Handed
- Self-Restore ( MANDATORY! )
- Gloom
- Physical Attack + 10%
I set everyone to attack twice and use Black Bane (30% Max Health for 1.5 Damage attack to all enemies) Wipes out everything, and Self-Restore refills your health after each fight right now, one Black Bane is hitting all of these plants outside Florem for 9999.
Speaking of combos, I keep seeing this hasten world + jumping thing mentioned, but have yet to see anyone post what jobs/abilities you need to equip to pull it off.
Is there a reason to kill all the bosses again? I did it already in Chapter 5 and there were only slight differences.
there are different entries in Ringabel's journal and some new cutscenes with each boss fight. They also switch it up with you fighting different groups of bosses e.g. time mage, thief and performer or knight, thief and black mage etc. Definitely worth it, and the fights can be quite tricky.

I waltzed through all that with a team of at least 3 people dual wielding instant death assassin daggers.
I didn't care that I was doing 50 damage to the defaulting triceratops, they died anyway after a few hits.
I went ahead and did the early ending thing, and that was pretty cool. I like that it lets you go right back to where you were without having to restart or just use your last save, too.
Man Rampart,Rage and negative strike just eat bosses alive.
So Wheres this Susano or whatever? The pirate dude keeps asking about it
Top left point of the crescent shaped island on the NE corner of the map, land the airship and walk up to the tip of the island and you should find the anchorite.

Pretty simple. Turn everyone into a quick job...Ninja or Thief, pretty much. Give them Valk as a secondary. Equip someone with Hasten World, everyone with as much +speed as they can. Then equip +speed accessories. Why? You have to be faster than your opponent. Not by a little even. You HAVE to win initiative every single time.
First turn default.
Second turn High Jump.
Now you have enough BP to High Jump again when you land. And again when you land after that...and again...and again. Since you act first the enemy has no-one to target since all your characters are in the freaking sky.
Congratulations. There are maybe 6 fights in the game that you can't beat with this combo.
Okay...how the hell is the fire crystal boss supposed to work?
He has two phases, which you've probably figured out.
During his Defense phase, the only thing that does more than one damage to him are fixed damage attacks, such as with items or money-based attacks. Throw items he's weak to if you want to put the hurt on him, otherwise just default and heal as necessary.
On about the third turn he will switch to Offense mode. The Transform command is the only thing he will do that turn.
The turn immediately following that he will use a full-party, high-damage energy blast. It's good to have your Magic Defense boosted, and make sure you default on this turn. After that turn, unleash on him. Special Attacks galore, boosted combos, whatever you can get.
On about the third turn he'll switch back to Defense and it starts all over again.
It's a frustrating fight at first but manageable if you keep your health up and Default a lot.
