Though I am curious... how many PC games can you still get disc versions of nowadays? That is a medium I haven't purchased at retail since 2005 or 2006 I think...

Most of them have physical releases. I'd even wager that's where most purchases still occur.

If that's the case than the state of PC gaming is in much more dire straits than I was led to believe. Like, COD: Ghosts saw less than 1% of its sales through retail PC, according to Activision. This leads me to think most people purchased it through steam.

I've never had amazon deliver my package past 5, but I am in a major suburban area in washington state.

Mostly depends on where you are on your UPS route. My house is in Philadelphia, but I'm kinda far from the airport which is where UPS's operations are, so my packages are usually 4-5:30, leaning later, depending on the route that day. My parents live super close in center city, they get their packages at like 11. All depends on the route!

    I get mine by 10:30, usually. <3

But this is the holiday season, so all bets are off.

Its highly dependent on distro center. Amazon often breaks sale dates by a day when delivering to me.

Do you live in the city or suburbs? Breaking it by a day would be bad here, especially if it gets assigned to someone of the "hiding it behind something on your porch is delivered" guys.

Apts in close to the richy part of town. We get 2-3 UPS deliveries a day and if im not home packages get delivered to the office and locked.

i'd imagine they'll stick to discs for the Xbox One and will probably give you choice for PS4 games now that they're running their own PSN Store front.

I'm sure they'll be eligible for Prime since it's stocked by Amazon. If they're in stock you will likely get it on launch day. I'd tell you to pop it in your cart and head to check out to see your delivery date.

    Good luck!

I pre-ordered my xbox one from Amazon June 10, which I think was one of the first days it was available. I am confident I'll get it, but I still check my orders at least 5 times a day to make sure it's there, it's the Day One edition, it's coming Friday, my payment method is right, all my doors are locked, my hands are washed, my doors are locked, my hands are washed, my doors...

I did all of this plus I purchased and applied Amazon gift cards for the balance on both orders. One of my friends had trouble with his cc getting declined for a pre-order of Diablo 3 even though funds were available. I'd hate to get so close and get an email from Amazon saying my payment was declined and I'm S.O.L.

I don't know what you're talking about. The PS4 reserves 3.5 GB of memory for the system (Source), while the Xbox One only reserves 3. The Xbox Hate Brigade just picked that up and ran with it because Sony hadn't actually said anything about it. The PS4 can allow up to 5.5 GB of memory for a game, but only guarantees 4.5.

I'll share the same advice I offered in the PS4 thread for people who might have issues getting their Xbox deliveries (not being home, missing the UPS man, etc):

When you get your tracking number, you can go on the UPS/FedEx website and have your package diverted to your local UPS Store/FedExKinkos. Usually it doesn't cause a delay in delivery, and you can pick it up at your convenience. And usually these deliveries get done much earlier in the day than residential deliveries. UPS charges 5 bucks, and FedEx offers it for free.

I believe those are for the standard editions. You should be guaranteed those by Christmas. I'll try my luck, or I'll head to a local store (local being a 45 minute drive away) that's getting at least ten extras and get there at opening this Friday.

Your link says the flexible memory for the PS4 is 100% for gaming. They don't have to specifically ask for more memory. Regardless, both systems use about the same amount of memory for gaming. Perhaps Prohass is concerned because the Xbox One is allocating memory for several operating systems. Demos of the interface seemed pretty zippy on the Xbox, though, so I'm not concerned. Both are leagues faster than their previous systems.

I tried out a One in a demo area at the mall. One nice thing was that the Microsoft employees couldn't possibly give a fuck, so they just stood around talking and let people do whatever they wanted on the consoles.

I started off by playing a string of Killer Instinct matches against random other people. I managed 12 wins in a row and it felt fantastic. What a great, smooth, fast, fun fighting game. I went from minimal interest to MUST GET within minutes.

After that I went over to another console that wasn't occupied and hit the guide button. I got to noodle around in the UI for a while, uninterrupted. I rather like it! Almost as fast as the PS4 UI, but a bit more fully fleshed out. Switching between games was fast and easy, with a distinct lack of "are you sure you want to quit blah blah?" And "are you REALLY SURE?" Messages. Games all loaded up reasonably quickly, although not quite as quickly as I've become accustomed to on my PS4.

I also tried the Kinect wave race game for a minute or two. It wasn't terribly fun, but part of that was probably just being made to play a Kinect game in the middle of a busy mall. One notable thing is that children and adults were constantly walking back and forth behind me, well within the Kinect's field of view, and I don't think it ever caused the Kinect to glitch out. It seemed steadily locked right on me.

Lastly, the controller. I like everything about it. The general shape is better than the PS4, and allows for a good solid grip for someone with big hands. My only complaint is that the material doesn't feel quite as nice as the PS4. The Xbone controller is a better fit for my hands (although not by as great a margin as las then), but the DS4 feels more solid and well made with it's textured grips. Overall, I'm glad my multi platform buying decisions won't come down to picking the console with the non-shitty controller, as I usually did last gen.

I'm still bummed about Twitch not making the launch-day cut, but overall I'm much more confident about the system.

I'm a bit concerned that the ui is slower than the ps4, I thought that's what we were sacrificing that ram for?

It's not slow at all. Just not quiiiite as snappy as the PS4, which is basically perfect and instantaneous. It's still WAY above either last gen console.

I had the same observation, but I think mine was compounded by those consoles having no internet. Hence why I think they "hung" at a black screen for a while before loading fully as I think it was trying to call to the internet and failing. I am not really sure though.
Wow, do I have crow to eat, Aegeri I thought your write up would be so overly negative!

Good games always warrant the acknowledgement/kudos they deserve and outside of two games, everything I played was great and I really enjoyed it. I would have wrote more about Forza, but I've never played a Forza game before and I didn't get much time with it (Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3 required prying people from those machines practically - which is probably why DR3 having the time limit was a good thing).

The Xbox1 ui looked plenty fast and responsive to me. The only part that felt slow was when he answered the Skype call. That seemed to take a long time to load. Otherwise the interface looked pretty awesome. (I'm glad you can choose the color. I'm not a big fan of Xbox green.)

Day One Edition Xbox One comes with a special achievement, and a controller that says "Day One 2013" on it. AFAIK those are the only special things about the console.

For Forza 5 you get exclusive cars (I'm still gritting my teeth that I didn't have the funding to get this on launch day).

For Dead Rising 3 you get exclusive Frank West and Chuck Greene costumes and weapons.

I don't know what you get for the Day One Edition of Ryse.

When my PS4 arrived, I had someone keeping an eye out at home in case the package needed signing for while I was at work. I get home, no package yet. Sit down at my computer for awhile. I get up to grab something to eat a little while later, only to spy through my window my PS4 package sitting on my porch, having been delivered with nary a sound. Clever UPS man.

Yeah though from what I've heard only initial preorders from madcatz or stores that didn't really have preorders will be able to get it at launch. It's a pretty sweet looking stick too, check it out: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/nov/18/mad-catz-killer-instinct-tournament-edition-2-fightstick-exclusive-eventhubs-preview/

As for the game play I played the game for about 45 minutes with the microsoft store employee who was clearly into fighters and had great fun with it. I intentionally played the character I was least interested in using(Thunder) and still had a blast.

Yeah it was totally surprising to me, because it was the one game nearly everyone wrote off immediately after E3 but is actually really well done. It's had some real thought and love put into it, with again none of the usual terrible alarm bells that "Free 2 play" usually brings with it. The Giantbomb quick look of the game pretty much went over that point in the first 10 minutes and Jeff really seemed to like it.

Of course, I have no idea if it will actually translate into an Evo worthy pro game or anything but that's way above my paygrade anyway.

I felt that BF4 looked indistinguishable from a good PC/PS4. I picked up the shotgun and then listened to the glorious glorious gun porn sounds that dice produced. It also held a completely solid 60FPS frame rate and it was the level with all the water, various boats chasing you and so forth.

So wait can the accessories and costumes you get with the ultra edition or whatever of KI be bought with ingame unlockable currency? If so then why would you buy it? or are they extra and seperate from the unlockables?
