Hmm...wonder how I feel about this.
On one hand playing with other folks is fun. On the other hand I'm introverted as fuck and usually prefer single player experiences because I can go at my own pace.
I think Capcom is chasing its own Phantasy Star Online.

Honestly, I look at Dragon's Dogma and it could work as an online game.
The story was pretty light overall and it was mostly about the dungeon crawl to begin with.
That said, like Morninglord said it would probably take a pretty big performance hit if it made that transition.

I just want dragons dogma 2, dogma harder. It isn't too much to ask that companies do this without taking any given franchise that was even moderately successful and slobbering online all over it.

Yep.
Because online is the FUTURE...Future...future..uture...
The Monster Hunter formula with the AI assistants could work fine, giving you the option of using pawns in solo play but having you run pawnless with a full group.
1 player: usual, your pawn + 2
2 players: you and your pawn, the other player and their pawn
3 or 4 players: no pawns
So you still retain the core game if you want to play on your own, but if you want to co-op it adjusts accordingly. I could see that being a good balance of solo/co-op.

I like that idea. Quick suggestion: 3 players should use the hosts pawn.

Dragon's dogma is definitely amazing.
The idea of DDO being an uprez port with multiplayer? I would have zero hype. I already have this game. Multiplayer wouldn't be as interesting because the game currently isn't designed for it. One arisen is already completely and totally broken, beyond all reason. Four of them would be a yawn fest.

This game is the living embodiment of the phrase "More than the sum of its parts". Almost everything on its own is above average. The art style is serviceable, but bland. VA is good, except that it repeats itself way too much. The AI requires a lot of fiddling and hand holding to be good. Combat is a mix. Fighting regular enemies can get a little dull, but any of the larger enemies are full of sheer excitement, and the final boss ranks in the top 10 easy. The music might be the only thing that is 100% awesome. Everything about this game seems like it should be average based on its ingredients. Good, but not super amazing.
And yet this game is super fucking amazing.

I don't really like that phrase, personally.
It has a completely unique mechanic and the fighting is super responsive and surprisingly deep.
There isn't anything quite like it.
It isn't that its more than the sum of its parts, it is that it has parts you aren't really considering. In the same way that leaning in super close to a famous painting and critically evaluating each brush stroke is a lot more dull and uninteresting than standing back and viewing the whole painting. Unless, of course, you are really super into the techniques of painting.
It isn't a game that can be taken apart, because its an experience and by cutting the connection between all the parts you lose the critical interactions that make that experience what it is. All you are left with is stuff that shouldn't be all that interesting, like taking a jigsaw puzzle, scattering it around, and trying to work out why you like the picture so much by looking at each individual piece. It isn't going to work.
Atmosphere and charm. It's got bags of it.

I think Capcom is chasing its own Phantasy Star Online.
I've been waiting FOREVER for a true sequel to that game with modern action combat. Phantasy star with new and improved levels and bosses with Dragon's Dogma combat......

No...the world is not ready for such perfection.
Well, Phantasy Star Online 2 already exists.
Sega even promised to localize it...... over two years ago.... and then keeps pretending they never announced it....
Day after day,
Alone on a hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
I wonder what else I(we?) have missed.
BTW, the music in the Dragonforged's chamber is pretty good. Turn up the volume if you have the chance.

Too many localization efforts needed?

It's Sega. They threw a dart on the localization board and we got Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA instead.
My pawn was a walking joke. Remember the alternate name from an approved list, for use with parental controls? My Pawn was "Jackal". And "Lamb". But nobody but me could see more than one of those names at a time, depending on settings.
I also chose somewhat wooly-looking hair and hid it under a wolf-hat, until I found more useful hats and relented.

My girlfriend designed my pawn. She loves character creators, so I asked her if she wanted to make the pawn. Matatabi is all her preferences. She greatly enjoyed all my tales of the crazy shit my pawn did.
I made my main character, and i made it based on a character concept I have in my mind for a berserker type of a male around 40 years old, only I then found the age settings and realised I could set it to like 90 year old wrinkly face. So I did that, gave him hobo hair, made him absolutely huge, and created Ancient Guts.
Most of the story was utterly hilarious. The, uh, "romance", was ridiculously creeper. After the first scene with that girl I did not follow the rest of that quest. When the maid told me to meet her at whatever time I ignored her. Too old for that shit.
Whenever my old man was wide eyed young babe staring around I was laughing my butt off.
And then he would do the determinator face and I got chills.

That said, the whole pawn system had a certain charm about it. I'd hate for it to die or be neutered solely for the sake of human multiplayer.

Yeah, my pawn was great.
She was the best soulless buddy I'd ever had.

Speaking of I always felt bad when I threw Matatabi into the sea.

No, no its not you. It's me. *sob* I'm a monster.

OKAY time for autonomy!
That's also how it works in Monster Hunter.
Well, it can actually be anyone. But you can have a total of 4 characters of Players + AI companions. If 3 PCs, one of them gets to have an AI.

It would be nice but DD needs a lot of improvements worth of a sequel in case it gets a shot at the new consoles.

Played the game 3 times already to get them all.
