Even though it was reversed, the whole DRM issue with the Xbox One really left a bad impression.
The DRM issue on the One was basically the future (It will come back, mark my words). Everyone focused on the ONLINE every day thing... I freak out if my internet goes down for 10 minutes, let alone a day. Not to mention their game sharing thing that got axed was actually pretty cool.
Anywho, As far as the playroom stuff goes, yes, some people will abuse it, welcome to the internet. Twitch moderators should be on that stuff pretty quickly, and in the disgusting case of the streamer told above, he should probably be permabanned.
Still having a really good time though watching you PA'ers stream stuff! I never expected to enjoy that functionality, but wow, it can be a good time!
Well, Infamous and Titanfall are both out soonish and both look super promising.
Those are probably the first potential killer apps for each.
Yes, I know Titanfall is going to be on 360 and PC as well but everyone considers that a One game first and foremost so I think it will count if it lives up to potential.

I was gonna do some shenanigans with it, but I guess I'll use ustream instead now? Between that and the mod power abuse trip last week, twitch is giving a fairly bad impression for someone new to the whole thing.

So the most annoying thing about using Playroom for broadcasting is not being able to completely mute the in-game audio. Otherwise, I think AR Bots is the best compromise in that you'll have a single random bot moving across your screen the entire time.
Also, it seems like if I share the video form playroom it doesn't pick up the mic sounds? (This is while not broadcasting)

Yeah, the sad truth is, most PC games these days are not the native platform. First person shooters are just about the only genre I can think of that is consistently developed on PC and then ported to console. And even that isn't always true. Borderlands 1 was a port. (As an example).

Sure, for people who buy game discs. Microsofts proposed solution would have been great for people like me going digital. The side effects I wasn't pleased with, but the game sharing for all digital folks was pretty neat.

Maybe it's just because I've got a Steam library numbering in the hundreds, but I, too, thought Microsofts digital plans sounded pretty great. Sure, the always online aspect of it was kind of a buzzkill (no games while waiting for the cable guy for a week after moving into a new apartment? Ugh), but I wish they had stuck with it and just provided some workaround rather than just junking the whole thing.

i bet that your smartphone app could negotiate the handshake, and pass it over the wifi network they are both on, whether your console has internet or not, and whether or not you have tethering.
The playstation app and Smartglass do a fine job of passing info to their respective consoles without them having to be tethered.
Either way. It was a solid plan with an absolute shit offline mode, and some day it will come back on all platforms minus the weak offline mode and we will all be better for it. It likely will be next generation though, as the remaining 10-15% of potential console owners with insufficient internets will be mostly connected in 8-10 years.

Its great for some, but for people like me in territories don't have particular great digital pricing then it was a scary proposition. You just need to look at the EU/UK digital prices for both PSN and the Xbox One Store to see what sort of nightmare scenario that would have been.

Yes, and within 8 to 10 years, if most providers have their way, our internet usage will be capped/metered straight into the ground, making an all digital future even less user friendly.
It wasn't a solid plan. It was Microsoft taking another company's framework, being oblivious as to what makes people like it, putting their own user hostile spin, and hyping it like the best thing ever (see a bunch of past MS F2P games, and the copius and atrocious use of microtransactions in their first party XB1 games for good examples of this.) They wanted to control every aspect of the software being used by their systems, getting rid of borrows, rentals, and used games, and this was how they were doing it. Plain and simple. It was restrictive, it was poorly thought out, it was exclusionary, and the way in which they responded to valid criticisms was arrogant and in some cases even hostile. It was half baked, and just because they keep throwing it in people's faces, and it will eventually actually come to pass because people are more concerned about dragging their asses off the sofa to change a disk, than actually having any common sense rights in how they use their software doesn't make it any less gross.

I think it's tough to judge Microsofts plan for digital sharing, considering we only got the incredibly vague selling points version of it without any real details. I know they publicly said that the reddit post from a purported engineer on the project wasn't legit, but that's not to say that it wouldn't have ended up very similar.
But then, I'm also quite sceptical of Steam's game sharing ever making it out of beta, so who knows.

Painting with the broad brush of "too lazy to get off the couch" is a bit unfair, since lots of people on both consoles are getting benefit from the digital titles that have little to do with lazy and more to do with enjoyment. Microsoft for the fast switching via voice and easy integration of the titles to the system... and Sony users for remote play.
It's hard to swap discs on your PS4 when you are away from home.

Remote Play has definitely already nudged me further down the digital path. There's a lot of good reasons to go digital-only or digital-mostly, but I don't think any part of the industry or dependencies are ready for 100% uptime on what is basically a license check. PS4's primary console solution, with guests needing to check in, is probably as good as it's going to get until online services become much more dependable.

What plans? All they gave us were some very vague promises and everything else was conjecture. Some people assumed that it'd be extremely limited, others assumed it would be extremely open and ultimately, neither were correct, probably because it never existed in the first place.
I don't even understand why this crap is being debated here. This isn't the Xbone thread.

Because of the nebulous "It's coming to every platform in the future" comment made earlier. It's potentially an all encompassing part of the industry in the future, making it a valid topic for conversation here too.
Anyone else finding themselves playing a significantly higher amount of Warframe than they initially expected? A friend and I have gotten a couple hours of missions a night almost every night since launch now, and I just keep finding myself drawn in more and more. Is there any kind of clan for PA PS4 players yet? Are there even enough PA players on the PS4 to bother with such a thing? Regardless, I would love to have more people to play with, because I'm really loving that game.

So this is annoying. Neweggs seem to be the most regular store to get PS4s back in stock, but sells them only as a part of bundles that cost $700+.
I mean its good for business and you get something for it but still.
But what really gets me is the ebay sellers putting it up for low prices, and then charging absurd amounts for shipping. One guy had shipping at $1000, another was selling it for 99 cents but shipping was $99,900.
I do not trust Microsoft to roll out something with the current reliability as Steam, especially given that Steam had a rocky 3 or 4 years where it was a problem more than it was a solution. It took a LOT of effort and changes to make Steam what it is today, and I think Microsoft (or Sony or Nintendo, for that matter) is exactly the kind of corporation to make the same missteps that Valve did with Steam in the early years without learning from Valve's lesson. In other words, I hear folks saying "Hey, it will be JUST LIKE STEAM!", to which I reply with the question "So that means it's going to take 3 or 4 years before it becomes even remotely viable as a content delivery platform?"
We love Steam now. But for a long time, Steam was that shitty thing that you had to install in order to play Valve games, and more often screwed things up with those games.
The discussion is moot, for now. I have no doubt that digital content delivery will be important in the future, but cutting the disc completely, while technically viable now, isn't quite to the point where it is culturally viable. Blame the older generation of gamers or whatever, but folks still like having physical media and trading them with their friends (or trading them into a local vendor for credit).

Does Warframe get more interesting as it goes on? I did the first 4 or 5 missions and thought it was alright, but a little too easy to intrigue me into playing further. Especially given the tedious periods when I would be stuck waiting for someone else to quit dicking around and come help with a door that requires 2 people to open.
I wouldn't have bought something like Knack without the cushion of knowing I could get some money for it later.
Forced digital-only would make me buy less new games.
I've felt like this with a few games. I took a chance with Borderlands when it released for example because I knew there were 2 games coming out soon that I could trade it in for with a decent value. And there are launch 360 games I wouldn't have bought at the time without this assurance. If goozex was still what it was, this would be even more so.

But then, I'm also quite sceptical of Steam's game sharing ever making it out of beta, so who knows.
It's hard to swap discs on your PS4 when you are away from home.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...

I'm having a blast with Warframe on the PS4. I hope there's a PS4 clan. Send me a friend request in the game, Aoi, and I'll join you for some missions.
I mean its good for business and you get something for it but still.
But what really gets me is the ebay sellers putting it up for low prices, and then charging absurd amounts for shipping. One guy had shipping at $1000, another was selling it for 99 cents but shipping was $99,900.
