I'm hearing contradictory things about Unity. Generally, do you guys see it as better or worse than AC3, or is it similar in quality but its strengths and weaknesses lie elsewhere?
I'm definitely going to get it sooner or later, since I enjoy these games most for the historical spaces they create, and I've missed the grandiose architecture throughout AC3 (haven't played Black Flag yet), but I'm wavering between getting it soon and waiting until it's considerably cheaper.
Worse. For all it's flaws, AC3 at least had a protagonist who wasn't a complete piece of shit, and a story that didn't take history and rub it all over it's taint.
A lot of people would disagree with you there. AC3 is my favorite game in the series, but a lot of people mdidn't care for Connor and his quest to Forrest Gump the American Revolution (Granted, the midnight ride and the boston tea party weren't the best of AC missions).
The one thing I can wholeheartedly agree that is awful in Unity are the modern day sections. They're poorly written, boring and don't move the series forward at all. Other than that, the game isn't perfect by a long stretch, but it's the first time in the series you actually feel like you're playing an assassin, and that counts for a lot to me.
Also, I've played about an hour after installing the third patch and the game is in a much, much better state now. I'm still waiting for them to fix the framerate issues, but there's no denying that the game feels much more polished and tight now - the controls feel tighter, the animations look a lot smoother (Arno doesn't seem to magically warp to a far away ledge anymore, he will actually drop a few floors if you make a really long jump forward, which never seemed to happen in my game before), the stealth is easier to handle and the game is no longer determined to wear you out with constant pop-up notifications. It actually feels like they've finally put in some of the AAA polish big-budget games usually have.
Is there a way to hide my name in the top corner without losing the health bar?
I know my stupid username, I don't see the need to be reminded of it every second.
Any news on if the patch on the One does the same thing? I wasn't getting any framerate issues that bothered me, so I would hate to have the graphics affected for a fix I didn't need.
It's not a downgrade or bug at all. The time of day affects the lighting in all areas, even underground. The person who took the screenshots just took them at different times of day. It's the same in the unpatched and patched versions on PS4 as well as PC.
I want to play Far Cry 4, but my monitor is 16:10 (1920x1200), and it doesn't support it. Black bars, top and bottom. Even though Far Cry 3 supported it just fine... Actually, Far Cry 3 was the only Ubisoft title that I can remember which supported 16:10. Everything else, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, all black bars. Not a really great track record for basic PC support.
Letterboxes could be tolerable in a 3rd person game, but I'm not playing a first person shooter with letterboxing, come on now. They're like the only company I can think of that doesn't natively support 16:10 resolutions out of the hundreds of PC games I play.

I find it hard to believe you can have a protagonist worse than Connor.

Yeah I can't get into it for the same reason. I guess my next monitor needs to be 1440p..
Is Liberation HD worth it if I've already got it on the Vita?
I'm only through the first three chapters, so starting over isn't a deal breaker. For $5 it seems like a "hey, why not."
I've heard some iffy things about the costume-mechanic design that is putting me off of it. Any other series and any other time of the year, sure, but 5 bucks can get you plenty in the Steam sale, and there will plenty more Assassin's Creed for the forseeable future...
so im not 100% sure I bought the season pass, Im pretty sure I did, but I checked in my xbox one "manage game" section, and all I can see is like the chemical mission and a few doodads, no season pass. Is that normal? Like was there ever a box that said "season pass", or did they remove it?
I grabbed Rogue for $25 during the Thanksgiving Sale. Thinking I'll run through that before trying Unity(hopefully it'll be fully patched and functional by then).
Really, if you can wait for the eventual PS4/Xone version or are confident your PC can run Rogue with high settings at a stable framerate, I have to repeat again that you should definitely wait. Now that I'm further into the game (60% completion according to the DNA tracker thingie) I'm noticing some rather noticeable slowdowns during large action sequences. Not that it impairs the gameplay as that's still pretty damn simplistic akin to, well, any game after AC II, but it definitely feels less awesome to storm a fort when the display stutters and slows down.
I'm really liking the locations so far. AC IV had a lot of "throwaway" locations that were very similar or had little personality of their own. You can see here that riding in Black Flag's tailwind allowed them to spend more time on fleshing out locations - there's a lot more entirely unique ones and the one's that aren't still look really pretty. Add to that that you have a nice mix of colder and warmer climates and weather effects and you'll rarely find yourself bored when exploring.
On another note, the more I see of Unity's gameplay the more I want to play it, but I'd rather wait ~half a year when buying a PC that can run it maxed is more affordable (and it's optimized better).

Oh, I grabbed Unity earlier this month during the Target sale. I just had other things to play in the interim, and found out about the bugs before giving it a spin.

What system are you playing it on?
I mean, I'm honestly tempted, and I could get it on PS4. Guess I might look up how much worse it looks on consoles...

I really hope Rogue gets a PS4 release. While I have my PS3 sitting there still, I really like the Dualshock 4 so much more that it's making me not want to touch the DS 3 anymore.

I'm pretty sure they pulled the season pass off the PSN/Live marketplace for the time being. If you ever see a card for a specific DLC piece at say GameStop or Target or Best Buy, it's usually just Console Currency of an equivalent amount and not actually what it says it is.
I wanna say the only way to get in on the deal now is to find a collector's edition since it has a dlc code for the season pass, but if the item is temporarly pulled...
You should be able to check your purchase history to see if you actually bought it though.

I'm fairly certain that the CE does not include the Season Pass. The (digital) Gold Edition did, but that's no longer on the store.
Okay, so I played a bit of Unity on my PC, and struggled through the first few memories at around 15fps before I gave up and upgraded.
A shiny new graphics card later and it looks gorgeous, but I wanted to go back and play through the opening stages again.
...
Is there no New Game option, or am I incredibly blind? There's no profile selection or anything that I can find.
Do I literally have to delete my save file from my PC?
This series has a weird history of this kind of thing.
AC1: One save file, can start a new game to overwrite it (if you're interested in doing the Desmond stuff again), can replay memories. (2/3)
AC2: Three save files, can start new games, can't replay memories. (2/3)
ACB: Three save files, can start new game, can replay memories. (3/3)
ACR: Same thing. (3/3)
AC3: Same thing. (3/3)
AC4: Same thing (hey, they've figured it out!) (3/3)
ACU: One save file, can't start new game, can replay memories. (1/3)
I skipped through most of the stuff in the beginning, and sped through the intro to do benchmarks. Had to delete saves, and start Uplay in offline mode (no cloud saves) to replay it for a better understanding of the story.
Gah I wish they would stop with the modern stuff. I mean thats awesome, I love Victorian London, just like I love Paris, but im sick of renaissance and enlightenment eras. I want ancient stuff, ancient Rome, Greece, Carthage, Egypt, China, etc.
As much as everyone hated Ryse, its been the only game to give me my Rome fix.
Europe and probably another white guy with a british accent again.
Bah. Was hoping for something more interesting/different sounding to be honest.
Dare we hope for a female assassin/nanny that uses an umbrella to float across London rooftops and stab Templar bankers with its retractable blade tip?
Black lives matter.

Maybe not on Uplay.
I can get a redeemable code from my local store, they wouldn't be able to prove I didn't buy it before.
Ah hell, I wouldn't get around to Far Cry 4 for months anyway, It'll probably be on sale before I get to it.
Far Cry 4 is what I'm leaning towards, I guess, maybe.
These choices are so not "for me."

Does it make it run better? :P
After the novelty of hacking wore off, the game played like a bad GTA with a protagonist who was both boring and unlikable.
In Far Cry you can kill a tiger with an elephant.
...I think the post-patch shots look better?
Maybe it was never supposed to have that lighting effect?
I'm the first to poin out flaws in Unity but -if true- this is pathetic.

Oh, and if anybody is looking at Freedom Cry, the standalone version is $1.25 cheaper the DLC version for some dumb reason.
